I have never really understood why people get so worked up over their favorite anime girls. I guess that I was always on the outside looking in when it came to stuff like that. I've enjoyed my fair share of anime and manga over the years, but I always felt that claiming certain characters as 'waifus' took the concept being a fan a bit too far. To be fair, I did have a crush on Orihime from Bleach when I was in elementary school, which I guess makes me a hypocrite. But that faded pretty quickly, and I began looking at the waifu-ization of anime characters as a stereotypical 'weeb' behavior.

But now... I realize that I was wrong. Because ♥♥♥♥ me is Kurapika cute.

Just look at his adorable-ass face. Sigh. I just want to hug him, and give him a cookie, and tell him that things will be alright and that he shouldn't devote his life to being a weapon of vengeance, because ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ he deserves better.

It all began when I started watching the series about a week ago (I'm now on episode 76 in case anyone is wondering; no spoilers please). Shortly after being introduced to Kurapika, I started to wonder if he was actually a girl in disguise, and if the writers were going to pull a Mulan on me. As I continued watching, I started to get excited about how/when they were going to reveal that 'fact.' I mean come on, he's totally a girl! Right? No way a guy could be that... attractive. Huh.

The further I got into the series, the more I began to question my own theory. They hadn't dropped any hints that this might be the case, and I was about 20 episodes in by this point. You think that, if there was such a big reveal waiting down the line, the writers would probably be giving people some clues to go on and build anticipation, right? But there were no clues. No, it was just becoming increasingly apparent that Kurapika is just a dude. I was just projecting. Damn, I thought, I so wanted him to be a girl. Because, you know, he sure looks like- wait... does this mean... ♥♥♥♥, am I ♥♥♥ for an anime character?!

Now, I want to clarify, ain't nothing wrong with being ♥♥♥. Love is love, and all that. It's just that, as far as I know, I am pretty damn straight. Up until this point, I have been pretty firm in my heterosexuality. But ♥♥♥♥ it, who am I to run from the truth? Kurapika is sooo cute. Every time I see his smile, my heart melts a little bit. Anyone who denies his cuteness is either blind, or an inhuman monster. Dare I say it... Kurapika is my husbando, and nobody will ever take that away from me.
