I bought this on a whim and it turned out to be a hidden gem. The gameplay is interesting, it has a ton of optional modifiers to keep things interesting, and the dev team is pretty approachable: Once I posted on the subreddit suggesting that they add a "random modifiers" button, and the dev replied "cool idea!" and the next day it was live. All in all, excellent game.

I don't appreciate that the demo save file doesn't carry over to the main game. The developer's garbage stance is "just do the levels again, it'll be fast" (Source: https://steamproxy.com/app/1260520/discussions/0/3385031179212810564/), and he's wrong about it too.

In this thread you'll find instructions on how to access the save files: https://steamproxy.com/app/1260520/discussions/0/3273566073562336303/
If you go there and rename save_demo0.txt to save0.txt, your demo save file will carry over to the main game.

I've played Hollow Knight to *an* end, and was dismayed to find that after all that effort I had only barely begun my travels. I'm glad that other people are getting so much bang for their buck, but I have neither the time nor inclination to chase after 10 different endings with 5 secret requirements and a plot that requires MatPat skills to understand. VSR offers neither of those things. It's a self contained experience with tight controls, neat mechanics, a clear plotline, and when you get to the end you're done with the game unless you want to go 100%, which by my estimation would only be a few more hours.

Also, the time travel mechanic is super fun to use.

All in all, best Metroidvania I've played in a while. 10/10

Early Access Review
A very well-polished game. Lower difficulties are a nice power trip, harder difficulties definitely require one to be careful but do not feel unfair or impossible. The different skills you can unlock over a run lead to interesting playstyles and combos. It's easy to pick up and drop if I'm just looking for a 15 minute break, but it's also fun to stick and complete a run if I have more time. New favorite.

It's one of those games that you can't play more than once, but that one time you play it is great.

This is a detective game. In it, you figure out who died and how aboard the ship Obra Dinn. What I liked the most about it is that I felt like I was the one to make the vast majority of the deductions, not the game. That is, while some of the mysteries had an obvious solution given to us by the game itself, most mysteries are solved by taking context clues and thinking about them like a real human being, drawing from all information you can find, from a crewman's accent and language to the people you see them hanging out with the most.

If the above description seems appealing, I strongly recommend that you acquire this game.

A nice mix of RPG and Tower Defense, with a cool story and nice humor to boot. Strongly recommend it. Waiting on the sequel.

This was the fourth game I bought on steam, back in 2011. I bought this game as a 6th grader. I finished it as a college freshman.

Now it's time to do the DLC.

About as creepy as it gets with zero jumpscares. That's a good thing, by the way.

You know those games where everything is perfect? The music is awesome, the play feels great, there's a bunch of variety and it never gets old because every time you play a level again you try doing something different that changes the whole thing?

Yeah, me neither. Or at least I didn't until I tried this game.
The game revolves around... Well, it differs between levels. Sometimes you're making a heist, sometimes you're rescuing someone, and sometimes you're simply getting the f--k out of there.

The game is well balanced with multiple characters, each with different pros and cons. One of my personal favorites, the pickpocket, has a little pet monkey that follows him and gets coins for him. See that coin just out of reach because you'd trigger an alarm to get it? Let monkey Hector get it.
Then there's, say, the cleaner. See a guard blocking your way? He can just sneak up on him and put him to sleep with good ol' clorophorm.
Then there's a locksmith, that, you guessed it, picks locks, safes, ATMs, everything twice to three times as fast as everyone else.
Then there's a looko-- you get the point.

The music also plays a part, mostly because it's 1- Dynamic and 2-Wonderful.
Seriously, you can just see some of the music in this game by going in this link: http://austinwintory.bandcamp.com/album/monaco-gentlemans-private-collection-bundle
This music was made by the same guy who made the music to Journey. And we all know how wonderful that turned out.

The game also has a full fledged workshop with a level editor that, while awkward at first, has literally every single thing in the actual game. See something in game? You can do it in the editor too. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's the same editor they used to make the levels in the game.

But don't be fooled by it's cartoonish graphics, because under that pixelated looking exterior, is a whole story full of drama, plot twists, foreshadowing... And you can play the piano. Yes, that's right, you can play on a f--king piano. With friends. There's even an achievement for doing so.

My point is, what are you doing still reading this? Seriously, this is a huge wall of text. Unless you skipped straight to the end. Either way, stop reading this, and go buy the game. Now. I want more friends to play with me, because, you know. The more the merrier!
