While I found the shader build time to be the longest I've ever had to endure, I knew I should build them completely BEFORE starting to play the game. I guess this comes from previous experience with other games over the years. So many people here gave the game poor reviews and didn't seem to realize this. Shader building took up 100% of my CPU and attempting to play while that's going on is ill advised. Once the shaders were built, my game ran absolutely fine at 3440x1440 21:9 Ultra-widescreen and I'm running hardware from 2013-2016. Then again, I read the requirements and I'm running the game off my SSD gaming drive and not a HDD.

I had zero crashes running on a Windows 10 system since my older motherboard doesn't support Win 11. 32GB RAM i7700 CPU and a RTX-2080ti and my game play is smooth as butter. For those reading reviews, you should probably ignore the majority of negative ones. I feel many of them had under powered PC's with too little system RAM and/or GFX Memory.

Game is a major step up from my old PS3 version or the PS4 remastered version on my PS5. I highly recommend this game. Just be sure to let the shaders build. I went and had lunch while they were built. :-)

Early Access Review
- Found myself in a vast, snowy, cold wilderness freezing and alone with my breath making clouds in front of my face
- Travelled down a crevice and found a frozen dead person so I searched him (took his rifle and granola bar)
- Contined on down the snowy crevice and spotted a wolf far ahead who also spotted me
- Wolf headed towards me menacingly and growling
- Brought up rifle, aimed and pulled the trigger... CLICK..click click click click. No rounds.
- Wolf ate me
- I survived 51 minutes

AWESOME!

TL;DR: If you liked Borderlands 2, you'll like this. If you pay over $35 US for this, you will be unhappy. Wait for a discount.

The game is fun and the new (old) characters are welcome. The game mechanics are pure BL2 with some new twists (anti-gravity, O2 Kits, Butt Slam). Play is a bit different because of this. You can take out entire swarms of enemies with proper butt-slamming. (never thought I'd ever write that in a review! LOL)

Overall I find the game interesting and fun but it has its issues.

ISSUES:

1. Do NOT buy this game at full retail. As others have stated, it is woefully short of maps and content. From the looks of it so far, it's smaller than Tiny Tina's BL2 DLC! Because of this fact alone I can't recommend this game at anything more than 50% off list price. If you pay over that, you're getting butt-slammed! Wait for a deep discount.

2. Characters are not fleshed out like in Borderlands 2. You don't really care about them.

3. Humor is not as good or I'm just not up on Aussie humor. Either way, not nearly as funny or lively.

4. Grind, grind, grind. It seems like I'm constantly running back and forth over and over the same maps again and again which can get very monotonous. A simple objective can have you going back and forth between the map location and the same person who gives you yet another objective ad-nauseum resulting in a very un-satisfying payoff when you finally finish the objectives on top of objectives (Pickel). And after a while some of those over-the-top aussie accents get very annoying.

Overall I like the game because, after all, it's a BL2 clone with some changes. It's just not worth the retail price tag at all. Maybe if that $60 INCLUDED the Season Pass but probably not even then. I waited and got it for 40% off ($20 less) which was ok but not optimal.

Wait for a Game of the Year edition or a deep discount or some kind of bundle deal. What I would love is a four game bundle for a deep discount. That way you can get it for you and your friends for some major co-op fun.

Something I was WISHING for after BL2 was more players in Co-Op! Six player co-op would be great. Nope. No increase there. Sigh.

This is an interesting game because it does something that hasn't been done in a while. It brings back the tactical shooter. My friends and I just got this because of the super low price and because we are very interested in teamwork and coop. This game looked like something we all really wanted. A welcome change from the run-n-gun FPS like COD or Battlefield. A game where you take your time, work together and keep your teammates safe.

In some respects it delivers on the promise. In others it fails miserably.

I will recommend this game at the *CURRENT* 90% off pricing. I would not recommend it at any price above $9.99 in its current form.

THE GOOD
Co-op mode that allows up to six players to work together to achieve the goals of the map.
Large weapon/kit loadout selection.
Weapon firing modes, weapon lean.
Good, detailed maps.

THE BAD
The loadout system doesn't work in-game. We all tried to change our kits and weapon loadouts and every time we entered a co-op game we had the same loadout we started with. Very frustrating. This needs to be changed.

The AI is really bad. Sometimes they have no idea you're right in front of them. In other instances they kill you first shot from long distance or immediately after they open a door. Sometimes if you just poke your head around a corner your instantly dead. The AI is just not realistic at all.

The sound isn't as directional as it should be and in many instances just not correct. I've thrown grenades down a stairwell into a doorway and hardly even heard the muffled explosion. I hear people talking and yelling from other floors and it sounds like they're right behind you.

THE UGLY
Don't expect BF4 or COD: Ghosts level graphics. The graphics and lighting are both very mediocre.

Character animation isn't realistic. When you kills a character they look like they're legs are broken. Really low-level rag-doll physics.

The AI is broken. Like I said above sometimes they shoot you in a split second just when you peak around a corner and sometimes they have no idea where you are at all.

I don't believe there is any lightness/darkness AI. I've crouched in the dark and the AI still sees me.

I commend this company for moving in this direction and I hope they can improve this game in the future. I look forward to more games that try to accomplish the goal of this game supporting co-op and multiplayer in a tactical shooter.
