I have some minor problems with the difficulty curve and level design in some areas (Not normally a fan of the Celeste approach to checkpoints in platformers and i dont know how well it meshes with a collectible/exploration focused platformer like this), and I personally feel like the game should track your high scores in the main mode (Not just your combo in the dedicated chain mode) and it would be nice to have a way to view all your level scores lined up next to eachother to screenshot them to friends (Or better yet, have a leaderboard) but otherwise its a pretty damn solid 8/10 and i dont regret backing it at all.

Cute aesthetics, good collectibles to hunt and fun enemies to fight, what more could you want out of a platformer?

Woefully underrated game, aside from the admittedly disappointing translation, the gameplay is at its core some of the most fun I've had playing a loot-based action RPG.

This game feels like how I remember those old Dreamgear 50-in-1 plug in plays I had as a kid in the mid 2000s feeling. They came in clutch during the post-Hurricaine Katrina fallout and despite those being not the best made games, having 50 of them to pick from still always felt so exciting. I never expected to ever get that feeling again but this game gave that to me and more.

I've been excited for this game since it was annoucned 7 years ago and it's surpassing the expectations I had for it. I genuinely think this might end up being my game of the year and I've only played 6 of the 50 games so far. The team at Mossmouth really took the time they needed for this game to shine and it shows. It's something truly special.

This must be what the guy in the commercial for the 1983 star wars arcade game felt.

I have some minor nitpicks about the lack of character progression/customization, making this feel like an adventure game that's pretty on-rails, but the battles are just way too fun for me to consider that a major issue.

Haven't put too much time into it yet but the fact that this game is a rare indie that's actually brave enough to have an arcade style trial-and-error design with a life system is already putting it above so many other non-roguelike indie action platformers i've played.

A pretty nice game, but a little too lacking in content for me. The upgrade system is interesting but doesn't really make much sense to me balance wise (You get way more credits than you need to fill up your board, and at a certain point you can just rush bosses.)

Additionally, i'm not sure if this was a glitch, but after beating the game in the bad ending initially and then going back and doing the good ending, there was no end-of-run screen or anything. A shame, i think something as simple as that could do a lot to extend playtime, going for higher scores and all. As it stands, all beating the game does is send you back to the title screen without any real feedback. (No achievements either, in-game or otherwise. Theres a few unlocks but its just some minor cosmetic stuff and I had all of them by the end of my initial run.). And the RTS stuff doesn't really seem to add a lot to the gameplay either. I recognize it's a homage to the likes of Starfox 2 and UN Squadron, but in starfox 2's case, the ranking system made it greatly replayable even if it's somewhat easy, and in UN Squadron's case, all the stages were super difficult but predetermined, so you could route out your run on repeat playthroughs based on which ones are easier for you to memorize, and use the money from them to help with ones that are harder for you. In this game though, all the missions feel pretty samey. When I first went into this game, I expected it to be more like Wild Guns on SNES where there aren't many missions but each of them are unique and provide plenty of opportunity for memorization on replays. The RNG enemy spawns make it feel partially like a survivors-like except without the massive ball-out-of-control balancing that makes those games fun.

Wanted to like this game more, and I wanna support the devs which is why this is a positive review, but overall I wish it could be better, Maybe some kind of arcade mode would do a lot for this game. A mode where you take out a specific series of waves and then get to upgrade your chips, and then advance to the next planet without the RTS stuff.

The sequel looks very interesting though, for sure buying that one. I look forward to what these devs will do in the future.

Other than some minor complaints about the lack of difficulty, it's a hella fun time.

Might hold off on 100% for now though.

Edit: I didnt hold off on 100% for now, the draw was too much,

They made a hypothetical 80s arcade game in addition to its 90s Arrangement-style remake and put em both in here. Now that's soul.
