One of the hallmarks of ARPGs like Last Epoch is that they require the player to make decisions about how their character is going to complete two specific tasks:
1) Kill the enemies, and
2) Not die.

Since these decisions themselves carry a sort of difficulty (make the wrong decisions & you could fail these two tasks), it adds another dimension to difficulty that must be designed around. This, I think, is what Last Epoch gets right fundamentally.

Make these decisions too easy, and the decisions might as well not be there. The game feels hollow.

Make them too hard, and the game becomes less of a game and more of a chore, to some.

I think Last Epoch strikes this balance very well. If you like designing interesting (or wacky, or weird, or cool) builds that can still succeed, Last Epoch is for you.
