Played on Steam Deck, works like a charm.

It's janky, stiff and whatnot but it still hits a nostalgic vein for a gamer that experienced it back in the day when Resident Evil 4 first came out. I believe that the remake will make this version pretty obsolete but it's fun time if you wish to 100% it or just wish to see what the fuss was about. I just recommend doing it before playing the remake which will most certainly blow this relic out of the water.

This game has weird one-liners, over the top slaughtering of insect-men that spout same lines hour after hour and somehow it manages to be fun and intense at the same time. The stiff controls and wobbly aiming frustrate at some harder spots but overall it's a very doable ~15 hours on normal difficult.

I played on Steam Deck. Worked flawlessly.

Trails of Cold Steel 2 is a mess of ideas. Some work and some don't.

The story is all over the place and loses the atmosphere which the first game managed to built up. It's divided into very uneven chapters that - sure - keep you guessing and wishing but everything feels so disconnected. Like in the previous titles, most of the plot power has been reserved for the ending hours. Which are terribly prolonged. Some scenes also seem to be there just to fill in the gaps and make little sense (like when Emma and Laura go to the castle by themselves when it's clearly not a good idea).

The difficulty is also there... in the end. The last 25% made me want to quit the game and ultimately I just weakened the couple bosses that gave me the most headache. Which in turn made me feel miserable, like I didn't achieve anything. In the end I just wanted to see the where this all goes but the game kept going... and I kept playing.

The "mechasuit" battles also started to grate on me. After couple of such fights I really didn't care for the rock-paper-scissors mechanic and wished that it would never repeat again. Same goes for majority of the boss fights where the boss regenerated half of it's health with one skill only to prolong the inevitable. Every other boss seemed to be just damage sponges that served little challenge.

Note: There's no point playing Cold Steel 2 without playing the first one. You are also encouraged to play the "Crosbell arc" before playing Cold Steel. I didn't and some late game elements felt a bit odd to say the least.

Verdict: This game has its twists and turns. All the lovable characters are there (plus many more) but the social aspects feel ultimately pretty tacked on. You can pick a love interest but it sort of ends up in couple of short and awkward cutscenes and that's it. As a mid part this game is pretty shoddy and I would give it 6/10 for giving us more what we came for.

This is a completely fine version of the cult classic. Sure you can buy it elsewhere and mod it to look like My little pony but if you just want the game on Steam, play casually every now and then, then this is the right pick for you. Also no intrusive launchers or users needed here.

This version is missing the add-ons and one faction but as I never felt that Conflux (elemental based faction with tons of spell casting) was a fitting part of the game, and in that regard this version is superior for ME. Most people play this game for the user made maps so the extra campaign maps weren't a deal breaker for me.

Bought the game on sale for ~4 euro which is a steal. Get a mate and beverages and play this the good old way, on hotseat, and enjoy them pretty pixels. It's a good game.

I find it hard to recommend this mammoth of a game. It's complex, interesting, huge, intricate and loads of other positive adjectives but for me it isn't much fun. The graphics make it much easier to tackle but I always end up in a situation where I'm just not interested in playing anymore. My sad little kingdom always crumbles because of something I didn't know how to do and using google to learn how to use water pumps isn't my definition of fun. "Why my butcher isn't doing anything?" You better google that.

It's also NOT fun to control your dwarves as everything happens via zones and areas. A panda attacked my fisherdwarf and I just watched what happens as I had no idea if I even had the means to do something about it.

Sure graphics are a step in the right direction but only one step. I did the glorious new tutorials and felt that so much was left untold. I don't necessarily regret buying Dwarf Fortress (even thought the price is a bit too steep) as I consider it to be a hallmark of sorts, but I'm also going back to Rimworld where at least I know what I'm doing. Dwarf Fortress is not for the lazy player. You need to study and master every bit of it in order to enjoy it to the fullest. And that's good and all. I just can't recommend it for those that aren't ready for that.

Dwarf Fortress is an interesting piece of software but that also makes it a pretty tedious game unfortunately.

This is a tough call. On one hand Ara Fell is pretty and charming little rpg but on the other hand it is a mediocre adventure that has a hard time keeping the player interested in it's somewhat generic, although colorful setting. There are some quality of life ideas here that are something even the bigger companies good take a lesson or two but that's just not enough.

In the floating land of Ara fell good guys are good and bad guys are bad and you're supposed to be the goodest (girl). The plot keeps chugging on without a care that it's mostly just tropes and miraculous coincidents. You farm nodes of ore and flowers etc. to upgrade your groups gear which starts quickly feel more like a chore than fun little side track. It's just not very fun to find a "secret" that's just more crafting material.

The music is chirpy and fresh but the loops are too short and the tracks too limited. Unfortunately some of it gets grating pretty fast. To this mediocrity we can also add the writing. The characters are constantly on the edge of being cringey and that's not a plus in my books.

I payed under 4€ for the game but somehow I still feel disappointed. After almost seven hours I felt that I just wasn't having fun, wasn't interested where the story was going and had already seen what the combat mechanics had to offer. And it wasn't enough. Ara fell is not a bad game per se, just not very good one either.

Played on Steam Deck with only very minor graphical glitches.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is a very long and slow-burning beginning to a wonderful tale. Opposed to a typical rpg setting that allows you to pick your favorite team, Cold Steel mixes things up by shuffling your partners, a feature I learned to love. This makes you care about the students, even the ones that feel annoying in the beginning, or at least it did so for me. Nihon Falcom is fantastic at writing dialog and believable characters (although couple of them are a bit too young to be realistic but who cares about that?).

The battle- and orb-system has been revamped from the earlier titles and is now more streamlined and understandable. The game does a good job of showing you the ropes unlike the Trails in the Sky-series which simply told you to read the manual.

True to the series Cold Steel can get tough if you're not prepared. Some bosses hit you like a freight train and you can't really overlevel to make it a cakewalk. I played on normal and got my ass handed to me in several occasion, even though I searched every nook, did all side quests and fought every monster that came across me. And this is as it should be - you are supposed to take your time, talk to the npcs, make sure your gear is updated, that the orb builds are suitable for the challenge, trinkets too. Do everything. This game is not for the hasty individual who cares little for the story since there will be reading for hours on end.

My suggestion is to start the series from the beginning, from Trails in the Sky FC (First Chapter) but Cold Steel CAN be also played without prior knowledge. Be aware that world building and character growth are part of the series magic and some of it is undoubtedly lost by skipping.

After 18 hours (some of it offline) I have to reluctantly inform others that this is a divisible title. Yes, there are the same characters we know and love but no, we don't have wonderful world and setting around us, as it's been replaced by an alternative plane of existence. The whole setting feels like this is the biggest filler episode ever but don't be fooled, it's canon alright, with plenty of important lore in there, too bad it's not presented very well.

This time our heroes move in maze-like dungeons, seeking doors that lead to different memories or to challenging trials. Most of these are completely optional but you'll be missing out by skipping them. Here lies the problem. Searching and entering these doors didn't feel very exciting and unless you enjoy seeking every nook and cranny in your games, this feels flat out boring at times. The writing is as good as ever but I couldn't shrug the feeling that this can't be a main title. It's not a "bad" game, I'm just not the biggest fan of it's storytelling.

As you can deduct from my low playing time I eventually gave up and decided to watch a youtube video about the plot and move on. I tried to push through but our time on this planet is limited and at some point I just noticed that I wasn't really having fun.

This is where the story truly starts to open up. First part is a terrible cliffhanger and know we want to know more. The combat gets deeper and now there's more status effects to worry (yay?). This one is a bit longer so don't think of it as an easy snack between games. There will be a ton of reading and a ton of fighting and these games aren't definitely for the impatient.

If you loved the first part you will love this one as well but same goes the other way around too. The characters and the plot is what makes it or breaks it. Either you learn to love Estelle or this game is probably not for you. It's the warm and cozy feeling of unity and camaraderie that glued me to the screen. And the nail bitingly tough boss fights!

Once again played on Steam deck and worked wonderfully.

If you're thinking of climbing the seemingly insurmountable The Legend of Heroes -series, look no further. Trails in the sky is the first part and a wonderful place to start since it does some brilliant character and world building that is needed for understanding the overarching plot. Beware, it's going to be a slog-of-a-ride as the story opens very slowly, actually during the last hours of the first part, but I promise that it's worth it.

This first trilogy is very text and cut-scene heavy so steer clear if you're allergic to the good ol' alphabet. In my opinion this game is best consumed when you want to chill and relax, it's closer to reading a book in that sense. Don't be fooled by the cutesy, chibi characters and diarama world, the battles can be unforgiving and even ordinary monsters can kill you if you get too cocky.

What more can I say, other than THIS IS THE STARTING POINT for the series, and I recommend this game wholeheartedly.

Btw, I played on Steam deck and it worked wonderfully.
