A good puzzle/mystery game but too short for its price (15,99€).

This review was written after a completionist playthrough with nomad life path on hard difficulty.

Overall it shows the game was rushed out, many bugs, too short "real" content.
I do not recommend this game for the full 60 euros. If you wait for the "GOTY edition" with all bug fixes, then I would say it is worth 20 euros (with no added new content).

Bugs

I encountered the following bugs:

- Hovering objects, this was the most prevalent bug.
- Not lootable loot: the loot icon is there, but you can't pick it up. I think this happens because the item is clipping with another object. Second most prevalent bug.
- T-posing enemies.
- One time a quest target enemy jumped inside a wall and I couldn't kill/loot it.
- Once I wanted to jump to a platform, but the game pushed me away by at least 500 meters. I fell and died.
- Graphical glitches: parked cars/bikes were halfway inside the ground texture, mostly the buyable ones. The Ferris wheel's pedestal's texture was bugged, all jagged 2D planes and edges. Kerry's robe was glitching: floating and clipping with his body. Cars, NPCs clipping.

Gameplay

The game supports multiple play styles to defeat enemies / achieve objectives: shooter, stealth, hacking, melee. I mainly used pistols, sniper rifles and some stealth and very minor hacking. But as I gathered from videos and other reviews many different play styles are viable.

Food / drink consumables are useless. In their current state I would have liked an auto disassemble perk or a sell all button for them.

The driving is okay, if you find a good car/bike or follow the speed limits. And also watch out for the navigation system because it likes to send you in the wrong way of the roundabout. :)

The city is beautiful and varied, there are many different aesthetics, both in and outdoor. The soundtrack is good. The NPC / traffic spawning could be adjusted because sometimes it feels empty.

The NPC / enemy AI is very simplistic. NPCs have two states, normal and squatting, fearing for their lives. The enemies do not really adjust to your movement in the battlefield.
Stealth is a bit funky too. Disposing a body is VERY loud but the NPCs do not notice it. It is jarring and you always think "they should have heard this".
Enemies like to spawn from thin air. It is mostly observed with cop interactions (wanted level), but you can find it during NCPD Scanner Hustles too.

Speaking of the wanted system, it is like GTA, but if you go one block, the wanted level disappears, also as I said the cops who chase you like to spawn behind you from thin air. It is really not as good as in GTA. I think this system was just some afterthought and it was not expected that you want to go on a rampage. It just exists to add some flavor to the game.

Quests

The story is linear, you do not have real choices which actually change the outcome. You can see the effects of some previous choices in small ways: an extra dialog option or an extra/different NPC in a quest. The main storyline is not really extraordinary, but it is okay. But the acting is top notch. I will not say more to avoid spoilers.

After the introductory quest, there is a training montage showing how you became a mercenary. I think this was cut out content and they couldn't finish it on time. Because of this, you can't really have emotional bonds with the main characters of Act 1.

I didn't play with the other life paths, but after watching some videos, I don't think it is as important as the marketing said it would be. Some extra dialog options and a different introductory quest and training montage.

The "real" side quests ("Side Jobs" in-game) are a joy to play. They are interesting, thought provoking, creepy, you will be conflicted what choice to make. All of the supporting characters' questlines (Judy, Panam, River, Johnny, Kerry), the Peralez quests, the Sinnerman quests, the cheating wife quest, the AI quests, etc. These are the types of quests that I wanted to play for 100 hours.

But these good quests are a minority. They are overwhelmed by the copy-paste Gigs and NCPD Scanner Hustles. There is at least 4-5 sh*t quests for 1 good quest. These "quests" boil down to the following formula:

1. Go to [place].
2. Receive phone call (or not) with [throwaway 4-line lore snippet].
3. Kill target / kill everybody / steal something / install malware to a computer (reverse steal).
4. Receive phone call / data shard with [throwaway 4-line lore snippet].
5. Leave area.

So if you do everything, you can reach ~90 hours of gameplay, but ~60 hours of it is chaff, generic kill/stealth missions. The other 30 hours is the actual enjoyable content.
