Honestly this game is worth more to me than most AAA games nowadays.

No ♥♥♥♥♥ microtransactions, no engagement optimized matchmaking no predatory grinding, no lootboxes, no gambling, no toxic community, no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

This game runs smooth on my gaming PC, and even on my old Late 2008 13" Unibody MacBook (although I have to turn stuff way down). The visuals look nice, they have kind of a lofi charm when playing at 20% render scaling which makes the game look kinda like an old GBA game. The game still remains completely playable (even at that low of settings) because of the simplicity of the graphics. The movement is perfect it and just flows, enabling you to effortlessly zip around the map. The ambient soundtrack fits the game perfectly and it's just relaxing to play. Of course, if you want to... you have the option to speedrun the game.

Additionally this game isn't full of bugs. Actually, I have found zero bugs throughout my playthrough of the game. Not very many games nowadays can claim that it's bug-free, even AAA games made by billion dollar companies.

For less than a buck, it's a steal. Even if it was $5, I could still see buying this game. With mod support, I could see it being worth $15 easily.

This game requires a fairly powerful PC to run, with lots of RAM (16GB is likely the "painful" bare minimum, 32+ recommended). Anything older/weaker than a GTX 960 in terms of GPU will likely struggle, at least on the NVIDIA side. I don't have anything AMD, so I can't say anything about that. To be fair, even people with the latest, most powerful, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ overpriced RTX cards can still have issues from time to time.

- On my GTX 1050 laptop with an i7 7700HQ, and 32GB RAM, i would get about 45-ish FPS, at the lowest settings, in 720p in single player, on a map with not much going on. The game will stutter more when low to the ground, and can reach into the teens/low 20s. Haven't tried Marianas map on this rig (or if I have, It was probably so bad I didn't do much of anything on it), but it's gonna be likely unplayable. I flew the A-4E for most my time on this rig, which is a subsonic plane (I bought the A-10A and F-15C after buying my "new" used laptop).

- My "new" used laptop (purchased less than a month ago) with a GTX 1070 Max-Q, i7 8750H, and 32GB RAM I can get 60 FPS, with most settings at the lowest, some at the highest, and some in-between... and do so at 1080p. It will still stutter a lot when low to the ground, especially in supersonic planes (the faster you fly, the faster you have to render in new stuff), and even more so on the Marianas map (to the point of getting single digit framerates). I should note however that this is a used laptop that I have not replaced the old, dried out thermal pads on the VRMs yet, so it's running a hotter than it should.

With that said, you can get Falcon 4 for under $10 and the BMS mod for free and it will run a lot better while looking almost as good as DCS (if not better, since it's more optimized). But doing so requires more effort to install the BMS mod (not that it's difficult), and there is likely not as big of a multiplayer community compared to DCS. If you want a complete sim for cheap with clickable buttons, much lower system requirements, and the best simulation of the F-16... get Falcon 4 and the BMS mod instead. Otherwise, DCS is free to start with the 2 included planes, plus the various free standalone mods.

The modules are expensive, especially when not on sale. However, they are pretty detailed. Even the "Flaming Cliffs" modules, while not full fidelity come with fairly realistic flight models and plenty of stuff simulated. This is not an "arcade" game like Ace Combat or Project Wingman, it is a full blown simulator and it has a learning curve. There are also free standalone modules you can get though.

For example, there is an A-4E Skyhawk standalone mod you can download from GitHub. The A-4E is a great, free, full fidelity mod! It flies nicely, and can go slow while still maneuvering well. The Skyhawk can carry a ton of ordinance relative to it's size, as much as a WW2 B-17 Bomber. The avionics, weapons, etc. are fairly simple also... which is better for newer players.

As for the free aircraft included with the game, you get a nearly useless unarmed P-51 variant (the TF-51D) and a Russian A-10 knockoff (the SU-25T). The SU-25T is faster but less agile than the A-10, and a can carry a lot of explosive ordinance (bombs, missiles, rockets) and a decent BRRRT-ing cannon (but not to the A-10 GAU-8 Avenger's standards). The SU-25T is a low fidelity aircraft (non-clickable cockpit).

It's cute, dark, fun... and educational! Also has no modern AAA ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (no P2W, no lootboxes, no stupid grinding, ect.) 10/10

This version is not as good as the WW2 version. This version feels a bit more P2W and unfair.

In the WW2 version, the biggest bombers for example cost gold, rather than real money.
Here they cost real money. The free bomber only holds 6 bombs and when you go to naval missions, some ships take several bombs to sink. The end result is you then have to face off with guns as you run out of bombs, which makes it very difficult to take out some of those ships as they shoot back hard and your plane is fragile.
