If you were one of those kids that thought that you would totally survive the zombie apocalypse, then this game is for you.... Prepare for the rude awakening that in the event of a zombie apocalypse, you're gonna be one of the victims.

You know those Morrowind mods set in Russia? This is like that but it's like if a Daggerfall mod was set in Poland. It's great.

So this "game" is basically like if Junji Ito was born in America and was named like... Johnny Ichabod or something, and made motion comics instead of manga.

That's what this is. This is a motion comic that you put on and then you sit back and watch it for 2.5 hours, and it's so gods damn good and messed up, and you have no idea what you're in for until the credits roll... hot damn!

The only improvement the sequel made is that you can actually play through the entire game, unlike this POS which crashes 1 hour after the refund window closes

I initially played this right when it came out and didn't like it, but I've always wanted to return to it and then just never did. Like a lot of people I saw Josh Strife Hayes video on the game and I knew I just had to give it a crack again.

He's wrong about a lot of things about the game and I doubt he played for the full 10 hours he says he plays the games for... no hate, I like his stuff, but he did state many things that are objectively untrue and that he would have realised were objectively untrue 4 hours into the game.

Let's go over a few things that stuck out:

Combat sucks? Yeah it kind of does, but he made complaints about it not being punchy enough and feeling like the player lacked agency. That changes a couple of hours into the game and the shotgun which he specfically didn't like, gets a knockback attack like he specfically said it should have. He probably also should have gone for a lower skill level character, as the game plays completely different when you're a gunslinger like I am, which is skill level 2/5 and he was playing as a punisher which is 4/5. It never gets good, not really, but it gets a lot better, and it gets a lot better in the first few hours of play.

Lag? Yeah the game lags like crazy and it's not due to the graphics. The initial game you DL is only 12 out of 40 gigs, and it will download it as you play. What this means is that it will lag A LOT when you first start, but it will subside after a few hours, and if you want to completely avoid it, there is an option in the launch menu to DL the entire game. If you don't want to do that, I still recommend going into the menu and changing the download cap so that it can download faster and lag less.

Crashing? It was made for Win 7 and it shows. There are plenty of guides out there on how to improve the experience and I've not had a crash since I implemented those recommended changes. If you look at the support page for the game, Funcom actually lists what version of NVIDIA's drivers the game will be comptatible with, which is apparently a big thing.

The puzzles being dumbed down? I don't know about that, but Josh did specifically say that in the old game you had to go to external sites and do research and that you don't have to do that in the current game anymore. That's just not true. About 6 hours in those kinds of quests start to pop up. The first one I came across was a ship captain who said he buried his treasure at 2 coordinates that corrospond with the duration of 2 songs, and when I looked up the songs I got the coords and there was the treasure. A stones throw from that is a quest where you come across a black van and attempt to hack the laptop in the back, but you don't have the password and the only hint you get is "wife". I found 2 bodies nearby, and when I checked them they had ID tags on them, and I went to the real world Orochi site which is the corporation they work for, and I inputted their ID tags into their database, and found one of their employees did have a spouse, and typing her name into the computer gained me access to it. The computer itself contained information on how to stop a machine that was doing something it wasn't supposed to, but they had to be done in reverse, and you have to figure that out yourself based on the user manual. Dunno about you, but that seems pretty indepth to me so far?

Again, no hate on Josh, he's just an MMO Youtuber and they're often total Doomers. It's honestly a great game and I'll be playing it for a while. Hope this review clarified some things.

It's cute as a box of kittens and the country side setting is a breath of fresh air. There is some weeby kawaii high school rom com drama going on and a character does say "senpai", but it's tolerable and if you stick through it then you're rewarded with a really interesting murder mystery for you to solve. 7/10 IGN
