Even newer newer update: 3/18/24:
Still fun, lots of content added. Engine upgraded, changes made. Devs listen finally(mostly.. sort of)
The one thing I'll never get with my hours are basically one thing:
Why is everyone so bad?
It's literally like I'm playing vs bots.
It's like people who play this game never played any type of FPS and they're just really bad.
This applies to like 90% of the playerbase, and it doesn't change.
Kinda crazy, I walked away from this game for like a year or two and came back and people are just still really bad overall.

Older update:

Even newer update, with older review under older review.
New: Well, many years later and still playing. Squadrons are fun, the game has evolved, there is a lot going on. I don't see the game dying for quite some time. I do wish you didn't have to pour the amount of hours in that you have to in order to participate in events. I think a lot of br changes are still dumb. It's a good game, but will take a lot of time for you to become good at it. Especially in realistic battles and tanks. Finding a good squadron with friends you can communicate with through discord or teamspeak is always going to make this game easier, imo. Just a fun way to kill some time without much commitment. As in contrast with dota 2 you will get punished for leaving a match early or lose rank if you have to go... with War Thunder you can play a match, they aren't that long anymore(another complaint sort of), and there really isn't a penalty for just leaving if you have to go. A small crew lock and that's it. Overall, the game has improved over time, the new battlepass can be fun. It's all about money, but you can still have fun for free. still recommend? Yes.

Older Review:
My old review is below the line "Old Review:". Edits are currently as follows:
Changed recommendation to Yes instead of No.
Gaijin has explained a bit of their side to the repeat questions and suggestions of the BR system.
They finally released British Tanks.
They sold out to Nvidia along the way somewhere... I could really care less about that, and I believe more people make a bigger deal out of it than what it actually is.
The main point is that they simply finally acknowledged the players. Thumbs up and kudos for that.. Do it more often if possible, but if that's not possible: Don't forget to do it.
They put in a new rewards system that basically can easily compensate for what a lot of Veteran players used to like which was the first battle of the day granting bonus RP.
Wagers were changed. Decals added. Aircraft added to several Nations.
The updates since my original review are far too many for me to honestly give a Thumbs Down.

I have been putting a few hours back into it recently and it seems some things have improved. Some things I notice remain ignored, but that is to be expected and for the most part they are issues people were already dealing with. I do miss a lot of the General Chat Mods and friends who used to hang out in there. The chat is still there but with a different name and I don't see as many spammers.

At this time(5/6/16), the largest problem with the game in my personal opinion is just kind of the fact the 90% of the time, Xsolla is going to give you the worst experience possible upon trying to purchase using anything other than Paypal or Visa Checkout. Amazon Payments is broken and their "Live Chat" with people who always seem to have the most common American Name they could find(but are actually Russian) sucks. That's just kind of being blunt. Xsolla will suck for you 90% of the time. Their "Live Chat" has always sucked, though, so I don't think that technically counts as it hasn't ever really gotten worse; it just always sucked and never changed, but did add different payment options, which I have decided negates the overall amount of suck to a certain extent (which was obviously not enough to keep me from still mentioning that they suck).

To be continued.

Old Review:

Q: Do I consider myself a "Veteran Player" according to the hours I've played?
A: No.
Q: Is War Thunder a good game?
A: It was.
Q: What happened?
A: Gaijin fails to listen to their clients.
Q: How so?
A: Take a look at Star Conflict.

Pros:
Arcade style experience.
Somewhat friendly community.
Tough love history lessons.
Air and ground combat.
No healthbars.

♥♥♥♥:
Lack of support and communication from Developers.
Complete disregard to what playerbase requests repeatedly.
Grinding that makes the most difficult RPG's look like Mario Bro's.
May contain (ex)member(s) of WarGaming who are mad without a microphone to yell over.

Conclusion:
Gaijin Entertainment was warned repeatedly by their playerbase and didn't care.
They made the choice of (once again, eg: Star Conflict..) ignoring the many to cater to the few.
You may like it for a while. Eventually you will find out for yourself, if you must.
Until then, I'd advise you to stay away from this game as it's only a severe waste of time.

Pretty fun game, easily kills some time. Prepare to grind, even if you do have a few bucks to spare. Very fun with friends.

The Good: Not Pay2Win(Yet). MOST of the people in PVE are fun and helpful. Very fun to play with a few friends in PVP, especially if you all know what you're doing. There are a lot of good stacks out there.

The Bad: Overly repetitive maps, although CrossRoads is still new. Repetitive Zombies. Same Map, Same Zombies, Same boring 10 minute run. Still buggy (Fuse jumps over areas on some maps completely, rescues get stuck and won't move sometimes.. after the patch that 'fixed' it.), etc.

The Ugly: Matchmaking. Point blank. I'm not going to lie. Matchmaking in this game almost ruins it. Nothing is done about players whom abandon games. You can and will connect to PVP or PVE matches with only 2 others instead of a full crew. This is worse when it happens during PVP. You will connect outside of the region which you've chosen sometimes.

Suggestions for Developers: Make Matchmaking better. Give extra rewards to those who stay after an abandon. On a failure to load, drop the infection level but keep the rewards at the prior level. Fix the bugs mentioned above. Perhaps allow players to create maps and/or modes.

TL;DR
Matchmaking will make you rage sometimes. More fun with friends. Still beta, is a bit buggy. Great way to kill a few minutes.

Final Verdict: 7/10
Graphics are okay for now. Music is boring, mostly. Matchmaking can basically blow me.

If you're just wanting to know if it's worth the download to try it out: Yes, it is.

I think some people miss the point of this Film. One of the highest rated review's stated that 'The Documentary was boring due to lack of Characters.'
...
So we're inserting fictional characters into DOCUMENTARY FILMS, now? This Film showed what only a few Dota Pro players went through on their journey for a Dream. You can relate the same to anyone that aspires to do something that they love. Oh, lord forbid we don't make up characters and have a really engaging story and let's just add some animation in as well, let's make it a Disney movie. :Sarcasm:

Seriously, these guys chased their Dreams. It wasn't about winning or losing. It was about making it there, and that is all. This shows what that took. If people want to rate bad because they don't know the players they are bashing that's on them. Me personally, I thought this was informative, entertaining, and most of all: It shows what people were doing behind the scenes.

I never knew Fear's monitor came from a vending machine, but hey, now I do. Why? I didn't need a character. I watched a documentary that contains factual information. The vending machine part was a joke. Good day.

Best game ever created. Caused the conspiracy theory that beer companies are highly invested in Valve. Or maybe that's just a few people from my server. :)

Uninstalled after a few minutes of gameplay. Graphics I give like a 2/10. They suck. Controls are awkward. Community in-server sucks. Overall, a very crap experience.

The best MOBA of all time. The history behind this game is, well, insane. Icefrog, the mysterious legend. League of Legends sprouting basically from the first version. The teams in the eSports scene. Dota 2 Lounge, for commited betters of eSports Dota 2 teams. Trading cards. Enjoying the hours upon hours spent with friends met just dominating every match that you can. The thrill of playing new heroes and somehow feeling as if the same map is always filled with new challenges. This is a game that you just can't debate about. This is probably the best game I have played besides Counter Strike. Another winner for Valve.
