Unfortunately, as I have stopped playing with the tool for just the fun of it, and try to use it to make maps for my games, I have found it’s many limitations.
Please hear me correctly it is a great tool, looks amazing in DA and has nifty things like animated assets. But much of this is irrelevant to a top-down D&D map to export to a VTT.
I worry that the development is a bit unsure what it wants to be. I bought it for making maps for Foundry VTT to use in an on-line game. Let me list some reasons this may not be the best tool at this time (keep in mind it’s still in development and in 3-5 years it might be more suited to my needs ).
A lot of effort and time is spend making very cool 3d animated assets, portals, chests, and fire pits. None of these crossover to a static top down map.
Shelves with amazing looking stuff on them. These look great (in 3d) with books or bottles or food stuffs. But top down they all look the same, a wooden shelve (except items on the top)
The way it builds maps in 3d means resizing assets is limited you can make (most) things bigger or smaller, but you can’t stretch so no making a table longer or stairs wider. Some items you can’t adjust at all like pools and fireplaces.
Although there are many hundreds of assets and some community made ones. It is s small set for each room/setting type. I am finding my buildings are all looking rather similar, between the basic number and the fact that many either do not work well as top down ( weapons rack ) or they look the same as each other as the details are on the side the item.
Overview – If you want to make top down TTRPG maps this is currently still limited, and I think you will find better alternatives. If you want to paly with this tool just for the fun of it, then it’s amazing.
I have not mentioned the basic fact you can’t build diagonal or circular walls that is in the next update but has been bug filled and is continually pushed back. Was hinted at for early 2024 now pushed back indefinitely.
I really hope they developers can spend their time and resources on the parts of DA that meet their goals. I also hope they know what the goals are, is it a VTT map maker or a stand-alone building design game.

Original Review - Very strong software for Dungeon Masters, still in early access so a few little lag's or glitches but they detract very little from the power of this package. Very easy to export to foundry VTT in either Jpeg or WebM with wall and window already mapped (although I still make some adjustments for example all windows are one square wide even arrow slits so I like to make those smaller). The look of the final map is amazing and it's great fun building in 3D. Very fast and easy to use but you can also spend ages adding all the smallest detail to your map. In the last update tracing was added which is an amazing tool for improving black and white or old style adventure grid maps.

I am re-starting this game on steam after raking up many hours in Epic, As a D&D fan this "idle" game has loads of fun stuff to play through and loads of depth to building teams and trying to unlock more stuff. I some times take a break from it but always come back.

I don't seem to find as many turn based strategy games as I used to. So glad I was directed to this one I picked it up late so got the full bundle on a sale. I am loving it so far having not played xcom it took a few re-starts to get my head in to the way it all works especially the strategies on the ship and building side of things.

I love the random generation of maps and with the options of set up especially with the expansion stuff (that I have only half looked at) you can make this as hard as you want, making replay and challenge almost endless. I would highly recommend to players who like turn based games like Shinning force and Fire emblem but in a near future fantasy setting.

I feel like BF is back on track with 2042, yes there are a few bugs ( but not many in my experience) but you can read all the negative reviews to see what these are.

I want to tell you what I like about BF2042. The awards and progression system are back to how it should be from the BF4 days if, like me you like to unlock stuff there are a load of badges, images, and tags to unlock and most with sensible targets that contribute to team play.

The maps are big and have a lot of variety from inside buildings, mountainside’s, oil rigs and cross country. The system to play with friends and get into the same squad works really well ( like BFV ).

I look forward to see how this game improves with a few tweaks and some more maps over time, I expect this will become my most played BF to date in terms of hours played (currently BFV with about 1000)

Plays a lot like a tome raider game, but feels very Star Wars. The music and story, to the point I am up to is great. I have it as part of EA Play and this alone makes the 1st year subscription worth it.
