I don't really understand why people complain so much about this game. Like, are a couple bugs really so bad that they discredit the rest of the game? I never experienced any bugs anyway.

Story is a little predictable at times, but interesting nonetheless. Dynamic characters and a lot of moral debate that makes you think. They've also accounted for times when you might complete an objective before it's given to you because you happen to be exploring and find something, which is nice. Rather than giving you the mission after it's done, someone will contact you on the infolink praising you for being proactive.

The game rewards you for using nonlethal methods, which I love (sets it apart from run+gun games). However, I feel like they could've done a better job making a lethal playthrough at least somewhat viable. Personally, I preferred the nonlethal approach, but I'd definitely admit there's a bit too strong of a bias. Lethal takedowns make noise while nonlethal ones are silent. Lethal weapons require a silencer to be installed while nonlethal weapons are inherently silent. Lethal weapons require upgrades to continue being viable throughout the game, while nonlethal weapons generally remain powerful. The nonlethal approach is also pretty cruel for the amount of moral praise it receives. Nonlethal takedowns include strangling someone til they go unconscious and punching them in the face.

That being said, I adore this game. While there is some bias, there are always multiple paths you can take based on your playstyle. For example, if you got hacking augmentations or the social enhancer you can hack or talk your way through various events, while someone with lift heavy objects & enhanced jump augmentations might find it easier to look for secret entrances and security loopholes, and someone doing a factory zero playthrough might try to find an open window or skylight to sneak through. A big issue in the original game was that people without combat augmentations and upgraded weapons found bosses incredibly difficult. Without spoiling anything, I'd say Director's Cut definitely improved the boss fights so that there are ways for everyone to succeed, the methods of success depending on augmentation choices. Admittedly, some of the augmentations are much more useful than others, but it's not that hard to look through your options and find the ones that will help with your playstyle. (For example, it doesn't take a genius to realize that jumping higher, sprinting faster, or damage reduction might be a bit more useful than reduced recoil, which isn't that bad to begin with, or the hacking analyze add-on, which gives you unimportant info you don't really need to know.)

I adore the scenery/setting. Yeah, there's a lot of yellow. I don't really care. The city hubs have a very cyberpunk feel to them, and graphics aren't half bad. There are also a lot of extra areas not necessarily related to any missions that are incorporated into different locations for people who like to explore.

This is one of the only games I enjoyed enough to replay it at LEAST 5-10 times. (I was really determined to get 100% achievements, which is entirely possible in one playthrough but I preferred to do several playthroughs with varying styles and methods.) The extra mission also helps add some sense to the negotiation with a certain person. And I love that The Missing Link DLC was put into its proper chronological location. The Missing Link, by the way, is in my opinion one of the best parts of the game. I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me. It really put a nice twist on things.

My other criticism would be that getting the four different endings for the game literally involves pushing 4 different buttons. Would've been nice if the ending was associated with your moral choices throughout the game. The game ends on a cliffhanger, so I'm really hoping for a pre-sequel taking place between this game and the original.

Oh, and for Deus Ex fans, there are a lot of little references to the first game.

The game definitely has some flaws, but none of them were major enough that they bothered me or made me not want to play it. There's sooo much more to cover and I could write about this game for hours, but I think instead you should just experience it for yourself! It's well worth the money.

I'd recommend this game to anyone who wants a stealth game with an interesting storyline and a unique premise!
