Probably the best game I have genuinely ever played, however I highly recommend getting a few basic mods (mostly just a gun mod) as the gunplay is a little outdated, and can be highly offputting to new players. It's also not a walk in the park, be prepared to struggle for your first few hours. I have more than 100 hrs however I play the "Anomaly" "Call of Chernobyl" or "MISERY" mods where don't launch through the base game.

Your paid mods can go suck a D. And no, you can't say that it's a DLC, you already released all your mediocre (at best) DLC.

They just goddang hate modding.

First off; I'd like to apologize on behalf of some of the community for this game. It's cringey, it's toxic, and more importantly does not represent the game.


This game is fantastic in just about every way imaginable. The soundtrack is haunting, chilling, joyful, silly, everything and more, just as the rest of the game. The story makes you really feel... affected. After beating the game, I actually cried a bit, because it was really quite a touching story.

The game's community can be god awful, but I think I understand why. It's because the game affected some so much, that they just want to share it and be part of it, and reccomend it to everyone, but they do it in.. unconventional ways, to say the least.



Pro tip: Do not search R34 for this game. You're going to have a bad time.

I'd like to first off say that this is me only being part way through the campaign and having done only one challenge, with no mods.

That said - If you're a fan of classic Ace Combat games 4/5 or prior, please don't let the negetive reviews discourage you from getting this game (but please don't buy it for 25$, get it on sale or in a bundle, or from a third party site as I did for mere dimes.)

It's a solid, very good quality dogfighter and feels VERY reminiscent of past Ace Combat games, from the layout of certain things, to the way certain actors talk, to the way certain menus work, to the way the story is told, it's incredible how much it feels like Ace Combat 04 without being Ace Combat 04.

Yes, the game is FULLLLLL of glitches, but none I have run into are very major. It's mostly spelling mistakes (lots of em) and the fact that sometimes voice segments and dialogue don't match, or that sometimes dialogue won't play but the subtitles show, or sometimes dialogue segments cut off other ones unexpectedly. It's mostly minor things, as I said. With those in mind, think back to Ace Combat 04/5, some of these were pretty common in those games, right? It's not an excuse for this game to have them, but you should realize that not every game will be perfect when it's so full of content.

The story is a bit confusing, but so far it's pretty decent. Campaign mode works well for me so far, but I do get random acheivments that I know I haven't earned, which is ok, I don't play for acheivments anyways. If you do, try to stay away from this game until there's some sort of fix, if there ever is.

The planes are a bit poor on the sensetivity, and people have complained that they have a hard time controlling them, but they're playing with a mouse and keyboard, which of course will be hard to fly in. Ever tried flying a jet in Arma 3 with a keyboard? It's pretty hard, but manageable, and I think that describes this game's controlls pretty well. "Similar to Arma 3."

The graphics (plane and menus, try not to pay attention to the ground textures too much) are phenominal, and remind me of animes with overly-detailed firearms and girls in skimpy outfits. Realistic and cartoonish at the same time. The cel-shading was a very good style choice for this game and fits very well.

The music is pretty good, but I usually play the Ace Combat 04 OST in the background because it was a damn good soundtrack, and while this one's good, it sometimes gets repetetive.

I LOVE how the story is told. If you've played Ace Combat 04 (dunno about other ones) you'll remember what I'm talking about. After each mission, you get a bit of art to look at while your squad talks amongst themselves and to their base commrades, etc. It's a wonderful way of story telling, but I do wish there was more than one slide per mission ending.

There's a Workshop! It's kinda empty right now, but mod support is a BIIIIG thing in this it seems. It has it's own Editor, even! If you want more mods, ModDB has some that look pretty nice, including Ace Combat skins.



Basically: If you don't mind some grammatical errors, kinda awkward keyboard controlls (get a damn controller), and some dialogue missing here and there, all while missing playing Ace Combat on your PS2 at 9AM while your mom tells you to go to bed, GET THIS GAME.
