Hey Arrowhead, just leaving my 2 cents after playing quite a bit. You've gone too far with your balancing methods. You cannot spreadsheet this game. Nobody is picking the "overpowered" stratagems. There's no such thing. This is a PVE game. We're trying to survive. Stop trying to put your player base down, play your own game, and try to understand that we want to use any and every stratagem, you just keep nerfing everything into the ground while introducing tankier and tankier enemies. Fix the bugs that make things frustrating, remove the nerfs to the few things that work and play the game enough to understand how things that are weak need to be adjusted to get them in line. You will never ever make this game fun by looking at player stats in a spreadsheet. Change your dev approach or lose me as a player forever.

A slow and thoughtful point-and-click narrative game. Made me cry. A bit pricey for 5 hours of game time but worth it if you like this kind of game. I like the devs continued focus on telling stories that stray away from the typical narrative tropes that we're used to. The epilogue is really sticking in my mind.

Unless you're getting it on a severe sale then it's not really worth it. It's about an hour long with some replay value for hidden collectibles. It's really more of an interactive experience rather than a proper game. Not a bad experience, just not a $30CAD one.

Just a masterpiece from start to finish, with a control scheme so smooth I keep trying to default to it in other VR games. Not a simulation like some other games are, the mechanics are a bit more gamefied but for me that was better. Excellent pacing, good length, and amazing variety.

Play this game if you can.

Overall everything I expected from a Monster Hunter expansion. In the older games this would be the re-release as the Unite version in the west or the G version in Japan. Master rank is exactly what I expected from previous games' G-rank. Everything is faster, has new moves, and there are new sub-types and monsters to fight. If you enjoy the base game, this is the next level of it. It reinvigorates the previous content and adds new stuff too!

Probably one of the most unique gaming experiences I've ever had the pleasure of playing. One of few games that approach the same kind of roleplaying feeling as a pen and paper game, but rather than try to imitate that this game uses it's medium to do something that wouldn't work anywhere else. If you're okay with reading, as not everything is voiced, then this game will blow you away.

I've been a fan of this series since the first game in 2004 and it's a dream to be able to play it on PC. The benefit of playing at a smooth 60 FPS (seriously, lower settings until you can get to 60FPS) over the 30/sub30 on PS2/PSP/3DS is so huge. Game feels so much more responsive.

If you've never played one before I should say beforehand that the game has a very specific style that is so satisfying to me, but can be a bit of a learning curve to get into for complete newbies. This entry into the series is by far the best however as they go through all of the aspects of hunting in good detail in the storyline quests. I actually recommend you play the story missions solo so you don't miss out on utlizing specific game mechanics as they're introduced.

I will say that the servers right now suck horribly, they drop connection within an hour of play each time I've played. Once this is fixed though then the game should be great. The multiplayer coop is super satisfying, however I really do caution learning through the story before jumping into MP as relying on other players to do certain parts of the hunt for you too many times may cause you to not understand all of the game mechanics.

Combat is the best its ever been from my perspective. Each weapon is varied and unique and all of them recieved some new moves or updates from previous games. The combat is similar to, but not exactly the same as non-locked on Dark Souls. While there is lock-on in this game I recommend switching it to the lockon type that resets camera on the monster on button press rather than the follow camera, the follow camera makes the game much harder to control your character. Basically you have specific movesets that flow into eachother (and there are button prompts in the top right corner so you can always check what moves you can do next) and they go off exactly as you press the buttons in the direction you are facing. So positioning your hunter is very important not just to avoid enemy attacks but to successfully connect your own. This is a bit of a difference from many other games but lets you have complete control over your character and let's you fell so cool when you dodge an attack and follow it up with one of your own.

This game is a polished ideal of its design. If you're not interested in fighting monsters to get more gear to fight bigger monsters then you should probably look elsewhere. But if you are interested in really refined combat then boy, you can't do better. This is a game where the core gameplay is grinding monster battles and you love it because fighting the monsters is so much fun.

They really REALLY need to fix the servers so the MP works properly and doesn't drop constantly, it's the only reservation I have about the game. I should also note that I play using a PS4 controller and a mod to show PS button prompts. I have too much muscle memory from PS2/PSP and 3DS to switch to M/K. I have briefly toyed with M/K and there's some mouse acceleration issues (can't disable) but otherwise the control scheme is fairly intuitive if you don't have access to a controller.

Got it on sale in a 4pack. Fun with friends guaranteed! Only paid 30 bucks for 4 copies and definitely got my money's worth!

Game is absolutely fantastic. I don't have a history of liking metroidvania games but this one is just amazing. I recommend it highly. 10/10

Current review JAN 2017: The game is still amazing but the balance issues on campaign since Wood Elves were introduced need to be addressed, probably will be in the eventual Bretonnia FLC release in Feb 2017. There is some concern over a lot of the factions being "locked" when you get the game and that's something I find interesting since I've been playing since launch and its sort of slowly reached there with every new faction that has been released as DLC making that more and more jarring to newcomers.
I still think the base game is brilliant though. Chaos and Beastmen are not my kind of campaign (horde) so their absense from the default roster may or may not affect you. Wood Elves are the one faction that I really like that is DLC though (as are alternate factions of Orks and Dwarfs) that may inflate the price beyond the starting tag. I think the base 4 factions are pretty fun but I caution against jumping into this unless you get it on sale if you're likely to want ALL the DLC factions from the get go.
Still, great game, my favourite total war, and I recommend it frequently to friends.

REVIEW FROM AUGUST 2016: Best faction diversity of any TW so far, but thats inherit to the IP of Warhammer. Great game if you like TW or WH, it did both franchises justice. Some niggling things that I hope get fixed but agent spam is down, you can pay to teleport to quest battles (historic battles from past games are now quest battles and are part of the grand campaign as well as accessible from main menu), and balance is quite a bit better than launch. Would recommend!
