I am writing this review because of the the fourth achievement for Game Awards 2025, but it has been a long time coming anyways, honestly.

I have been playing this game on and off for more than a decade now, and I have to tell you that the amount and quality of content on display here is quite astonishing for a free game. There are many so-called 'autistic projects' like this one out there, but "Battle for Wesnoth" is one of the best shareware fantasy video games on the net I have ever had contact with.

Pretty retro-inspired graphics, catchy music, wonderful gameplay and many compelling stories with fun and sometimes perplexing characters. Not everything is a jackpot though (the OST tends to get repetitive a dozen or so hours into the game, the writing feels too casual for such a mystical world sometimes and RNJesus really does hate you on occasion), but for an astonishing price of COMPLETELY FREE this game is very much worth at least an honest try.
