Humble Bundle.

This game has a lot of charm. Cute idea, but most of the platforming mechanics do not play any differently than what I've seen before in other games. The way the screen shifts around makes it difficult to control and can cause motion sickness. I will start by saying that I was softlocked in an area due to gaining access with the "defense bot" mechanic. You can just skip huge chunks of level by taking a hit and using i-frames. This game breaking is easily missed by creators, but, for someone who loves platforming, it is too much of an oversight to recommend this game to other platforming fans.

As far as the story goes, I was into it at first, but it uses a lot of tropes time travel to stone age, witty pop culture references, apocalypse robot take over, etc... and doesn't take itself seriously enough for me to take it seriously. A story needs to walk the fine line of humor and seriousness in order to achieve immersion.

Finally, anyone who has played a platformer knows that it needs to flow well. Any section that slows you down or forces you to wait, which this game has plenty of, simply makes the player antsy and bored. It can have its place, but in small doses. This game uses way to many waiting sections and auto-scrolling sections.

2/5. There was something there, but I missed it. So close to being a lovable game but the softlock on chapter 12 really did me in. In one of the rooms, you can find a door that has a electric wall and a pool of water in a pit. Across said pit is a door. I used my only free hit to jump over the water and through the electric fence to get into the door. When in the door, there was nowhere to go (missing mechanic perhaps?) and dying on either side brought me to the door that lead nowhere on either side without a free hit.. Worth mentioning that there seemed to be a huge gap in difficulty in some sections. One moment I'm jumping over 'goombas' and in the next I'm dodging 'meat-boy' saws on ground that doesn't let me stand still.

That's just my opinion though. Check out some of the others before you buy I suppose.

Edit: the below issue is no longer happening. Not sure if it's just something that was fixed with time, or if it is the fact I upgraded my PC. Either way. It's pretty Borderlands-y. Without graphical issues it is fine.

I refunded the game because within the first 2 hours, I was able to find major graphical issues. My system meets recommended requirements; However, even while running at a smooth 60 frames, it dropped frames every 5-10 seconds as I move around and load stuff in. Even after messing around with the minimal graphical options they have allowed you to use, I was unable to prevent the game from dropping frames for no good reason. It ran the same at Medium and Low settings. I didn't try High, but it's safe to say that it wouldn't have worked any better.

Game is fine. Launcher blows. All respected launchers and games should have a built in uninstall button, but they don't. You can remove the file seeding feature and turn off auto update, but otherwise it just starts and installs when your computer is on, even after you uninstall War Thunder. Minor inconvenience, but an oversight that shouldn't be made by a company with such a well known game.

The game doesn't know that computers can use two monitors. Not sure how that made it passed testing. Had a similar issue with a Tom Clancy game not knowing what a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MMO pad was, and dropping my frame rate to 10 to, as fast as it could, disconnect and reconnect the device. This game thinks that if you have two monitors, you must want to run the game at 940 x 560 or whatever. Eyesore. The bug makes it look like someone peed on the game and wiped it around to blur it beyond all repair. Disgrace. Bad game. 0/10. Figure out how computers work before you make a game, please.

Played nearly 2 hours and haven't gotten to the hacking part of the game. Couldn't sit around any longer and "sell soda". Do yourself a favor and don't buy this game. There is a difference between freedom and lack of direction.

At first game launched, but ran at 20 fps when focused. Now that I tried to fix that, it won't launch at all. There was also an update between the 20fps issue and the not launching issue. That could be part of the problem.

In any case. This game gets a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 0/10 until Ubisoft gets their ♥♥♥♥ together to allow the game to run. (i.e. never)

Edit: Alright, so I figured out how to fix the issue. I had to completely uninstall and reinstall my Nvidia drivers. So now I can play the game.

Even though the issue was fixed, there are plenty of bugs and issues in game. On top of these, the game is very repetative. I enjoy the game, but only with a friend. Even though I chose 'No' for whether or not I recommend the game, I would recommend it if you have some friends to play with.

All in all, I'd give it a 5/7 with friends, and a 3/7 without. Buy at your own risk.

I sorta kinda received this product for free. I helped fund it, and it was given to me as a gift through kickstarter. To my understanding, this is Thomas Brush's first game. In that light, he did a very good job.

[EDIT:In the below comments, I was informed that he had actually made two games before this, just to correct myself. With this in mind, I still think he did a very good job considering. Making a game is not easy and, although unfortunately short, it was very atmospheric and told a good story.]

Pros:
  • One dude did all of this, so everything meshes and mixes very well together. Wonderful atmosphere.
  • The game makes you think for yourself and has faith that you, as the player, don't need your hand held. (could also be a con, depending on preference)
  • Maybe it's just me, but the Father-daughter type of story always gets me.
Cons:
  • This game left me wanting more. If you check my playtime, you'll see that it didn't take me long to beat.
  • Along the same lines, the puzzles were quite easy. I like something challenging
  • The currency, instead of being optional or suggested, was required. You need to get a lot to progress. There was even a part where a "secret" area felt required because, had I not found it, I would have been stuck.
  • (bit of a spoiler here regarding end game content) The Adventure Plus mode, although a cool idea, was not something that I really liked. Since I was one of the kickstarter funders (Elder level, if you're wondering) I felt obligated to play it again, but I just played through as fast as I could.
  • (a disappointing spoiler, but a spoiler nonetheless) The decisions you make throughout do not give you any sort of satisfaction that something has changed. The ending changes a bit, but not noticably. It is sort of compareable to the ending of mass effect 3, where you get to choose your favorite color. You don't feel like you impact anyone. At most, you impact the rotation of the earth and a dog.

Anyways, regardless of what you read above, I would give this game a solid C+. It wasn't a bad game by any stretch, but not really an awesome game. I'll give it a thumbs up anyways because, in my opinion, it's a good start for Thomas. Hopefully his next games (assuming he wishes to further pursue this career) continue to improve. If you want to purchase this game, I would wait until it is on sale, no offense to Thomas.
