If somehow you still don't know anything of this game and you're considering playing it, go into it fully blind. Do not read other reviews. Do not look it up. I promise you it'll be worth it.

So I bought this game again after it went on sale, and gave it a second chance. I have to take my words back on some aspects of this game.

This time, I decided to approach this game with a friend via Remote Play. It makes an enormous difference playing it together with someone else vs going at it alone. The aforementioned fetch quests also don't play that big of a part in the overall game. It just gave me that impression because the first hour of the game was that alone, which disappointed me. I've now played a total of 2 hours in my second playthrough with my pal and it is not only fetch quests after all. I hope it can keep up this trend as we continue the adventure.

I'm still standing by my statement that this game does not deserve the XXL title and that it won't live up to the previous titles, IF that's what you are expecting from this game. Standalone, and without any expectations, it is just fine. Especially when playing it together with a friend over remote play or as a couch co-op game. I highly recommend you do that, otherwise you may be in for a disappointment. My old review can be read underneath the line.

As an Asterix fan this pains me to say it, but XXL fans: save your money. This game cannot fill the shoes of its predecessors and it will not live up to your expectations. In the one hour I that played, it was bland and unimaginative. Just fetch quests and clearing roman camps to complete said fetch quests. The music score is equally boring. Your camera is always in bird's eye view and there is no true platforming in this. Only the graphics were pretty. At the end of the day, this game feels like it was just hopping the bandwagon of the recent movie, taking place after it and leaving some occasional references to what happened in it. (The movie was great imo)

This game is lovely. I never played Kao before, but as a kid I was really into Rayman 2 and 3 (I still am) and I can really find the same charm in this game.

Love this game, and I'm not really into classic RPGs much other than Pokémon.

Though to call it an RPG is maybe not quite right-- the path is too linear for that. Still, very good story, rate tem out of 10!
