this game is a helluva grind to get points, but if you like it enough to play it enough to get point enough you'll really enjoy yourself. the community isn't too toxic either because people tend to report salty people for being salty and the devs are exactly as active as you hope they'd be in getting rid of such people.

a big downside is how monetised this game is. apart from the many, many DLCs available in the steam store that (in my personal and ignorable opinion) are not especially cheap, there is also an in-game store for in-game currency where you can buy in-game cosmetics. that's a bit of a bummer, but the devs gotta eat so i understand it. you can also spend real money in-game to unlock the DLC characters.

as far as characters go, there is a wide range of killers and survivors available even to people who have not paid for any DLCs. apart from the three default killers that were released on launch, there are a few others that have been made free-to-play, and the variety of skills shared among them, especially as more skills are unlocked, allows for practically any play-style that you can dream of.

there aren't many bugs that i, personally, have come across, and when they happen it is amusing rather than frustrating. i have had a bug force me to quit a round (which results in an automatic 5-minute ban from matchmaking in order to discourage ragequitting) only once, and that was during a public beta when a new killer and survivor were being trialled. oh, on the subject of public betas, they happen quite often and you don't need to sign up to any mailing lists to participate - just change the setting in the steam properties tab.

i myself have unlocked all of the killer and survivor characters as of the time of writing this review and plan on doing so into the future. the only things i have ever gotten for free are bloodpoints for participating in a public beta, and laughs. i honestly recommend this game to anyone that thinks they might enjoy it.

The dlc is not 10$ but I do agree, paid dark mode is stupid

Hey, I just want to point out that Andrew Sampson, the one running borderless gaming's steam presence, has only committed to the github repository 3 times since 2019. You aren't supporting the dev by buying the dark mode dlc, allowing them to maintain the software. You are supporting Andrew Sampson, the rainway guy who put ads in paid software and then made a 10$ dlc for dark mode.
