If you're a fan of horror or suspense movies and like games that have multiple storylines that are influenced by your choices then you'll love this game.

First off it's an incredibly good looking game with character models and environments so well done that it's easy to get immersed in the world which is exactly what you want in a game like this where you need to build emotional attachment to the characters to really care about their survival....or deaths.

The action from chapter to chapter is so good and the jump scares are all fantastic. There were a lot of moments where my I found my jaw literally open wide due to a reveal of a story beat or death of a character in a way I hadn't expected.

The acting was great, there are characters you're going to love and some that you will absolutely hate - but that's just a testament to how good the acting is.

I really can't think of any complaints that wouldn't be nitpicky, this is a must play for fans of the horror or pick your own adventure genre. I don't have the time to go through another playthrough, but there has to be hundreds of hours of replayability based off how many branching choices you go through in the game.

Great Ideas, Inconsistent Direction & Execution

At this time of this review I have 570+ hours in DCS World and have completed multiple payware and user Hornet campaigns, and have fully completed the campaign in question. Although my recommendation stands at a NO, this is based off my personal experience playing through the campaign - I will provide additional detail below so that you can make your own decision on if this campaign will be enjoyable for you.

Reading the description before completing my purchase I was excited. The developers promise an experience that should feel like a hybrid between the Ace Combat series and DCS World. Ultimately they deliver on this and you do have the action and escalating narrative of an Ace Combat game combined with the realistic systems and aircraft simulated in DCS World.

The problem is these ideologies are in direct conflict with one another and the end result is a campaign that has a narrative tone that is constantly shifting and missions that stall your excitement as the developers chose to make many of the objectives so challenging that if you don't have perfect execution you'll have to restart entire missions. Sometimes even with a checkpoint this can mean 10-20 minutes of gameplay to get back to your prior failure point.

For example - a mission may require that a set # of AA targets be eliminated, but these AA targets are the exact same quantity as the number of the stores you have available, if not more. If you have a mission where your missile loses tracking, or an AI teammate fails to kill their assigned target you'll likely end up having to restart a mission.

The narrative is entertaining, but this is where the tonal shifts can be disorienting. One of your fellow pilots jokes constantly about how they've been shot down multiple times, but you're somehow expected to have an emotional attachment to the events transpiring throughout the campaign.

It's not all bad though. There is a decent amount of fun action throughout the campaign, good variety in the objectives, unique use of the engine to create cutscenes that play out in real time in the DCS World engine, an amazing soundtrack and I did not encounter any gamebreaking bugs....although how precise execution has to be in a few missions can make you feel like you're running into a bug.

At $10 (I got it on sale), I don't regret my purchase, I just know for myself at a certain point it became a challenge to find the enthusiasm to even finish the campaign and I can see that being the case for others who aren't hard pressed for an Ace Combat experience.

Another Must Own Campaign For Hornet Pilots

Badger633 has done it again and has created one of the most immersive campaigns available for DCS World.

With at least 15 hours of varied content I never felt bored, and being able to once again take on the role of Ford from the previous campaigns was a real joy. While you don't need to have played the prior campaigns to enjoy this one, it does add to the immersion to know your actions from the last campaign and see the aftermath now.

The campaign felt very realistic and had a reasonable challenge level, I was very happy to see there was a ton of air to air combat in the campaign which it seems a lot of other developers skip for some reason.

You won't regreat picking this one up.

One Of The Best VR Flight Sim Experiences

I was an early adopter of VR as an original Oculus CV1 owner and while we didn't have an impressive selection of games to choose from, we had incredible gems like VTOL VR that offered experiences you simply cannot have outside of VR.

Cockpit experiences like flying or racing are still the best you can have in VR in my opinion and VTOL VR does not disappoint. There are a few different aircraft to fly with their own unique cockpits, external models, flight dynamics and weapons capabilities. The variety in aircraft and functionality also mean that the variety of objectives that can be thrown at you are varied as well.

I was surprised to see that both BGM and BVR combat are sensible options in the maps on hand, and doing SEAD work was also a thrill. The game ships with a handful of tutorial and single player missions, and multiplayer missions are available that can be played either co-op for PVE content, or PVP if you want to go head to head against other real life players.

This developer has stuck with this title since the initial release in 2017, and continues to add new content. This is an easy title to recommend even at full price.

Lastly I will mention that there is a thriving user community that also puts out free missions, mods, campaigns, etc through the Steam Workshop so there's a ton to do once you have the game.

The Best MilSim Ever Released

You will have a hard time finding a gameplay experience as immersive and rewarding as the one offered in DCS World.

The appeal of DCS World is taking a module like the F/A-18C Hornet and dedicating hours to learning all of the real world systems that have been implemented in DCS with incredible respect to realism based upon unclassified documentation and of course feedback from real world pilots and personnel.

In most cases within an hour or 2 you'll have the basics of an aircraft down and be able to fly and pew pew, but true satisfaction comes from having a couple hundred hours in one of your favorite aircraft and being able to use all the advanced systems and any available weapons to complete challenging missions and campaigns.

On the topic of missions and campaigns I should mention how incredible the DCS World community is. There are thousands of user created missions and campaigns available for FREE and most are specifically catered to the wide variety of aircraft available in DCS. There's also a ton of free liveries and free aircraft mods like the F-22 and Su-57.

DCS has a huge amount of PVE content and a dynamic campaign with infinite replayability is in the works for future release. I have also spent many hours on friendly PVE servers taking out AI targets, and when you want to engage in PVP content there are easy to find servers for that.

DCS provides an experience unlike any other title available, at its core DCS is already a fun experience, but depending on how dedicated you are to learning an aircraft you can take a fun experience to a level where you genuinely feel proud of the things you're able to accomplish.

I recently played through a campaign mission that had me doing a patrol at night and due to a low cloud layer it was pitch black and we had to cruise at under 6K for our altitude. I had my targeting pod and night vision goggles handy for recon on this patrol. At some point my wingman and I get orders to go to a waypoint and confirm reports of a submarine, we set a heading towards the waypoint and some miles out I'm able to use the targeting pod to confirm the submarine sighting.

I get the go ahead from command, laser target the sub and a couple antiship missiles later there is no longer a submarine.

This is why I have almost 400 hours in DCS World as of the time of this review.

A Must Own Campaign For Hornet Pilots

This 15 mission campaign gives Hornet pilots an impressive variety of mission types to engage in and the voice acting, scripting, assets and environments used all provide a deep level of immersion for the player.

This campaign will challenge you to become familiar with weapons and techniques that you may not commonly use. You'll get a ton of use of your targeting pod for bomb runs and recon work, but expect to get in a few fun dogfights as well. Don't worry though, I didn't find any of the content frustrating - no dumb bomb dropping, and all air to air refueling was optional.

There are some really unique missions that I don't want to spoil, but I will say that my favorite thing about this campaign is how well the story is aligned with the gameplay mechanics. As the situation in the storyline escalates, so do the missions you and your wingmen have to take on - there's one mission that gave me serious Top Gun: Maverick vibes.

I genuinely can't think of a single bad thing to say about this campaign. Even at full price it's a great value and offers over 20 hours of gameplay, plus replayability if you want to go back through at a higher difficulty level.

I have used this app for years via the Oculus store and recently discovered it was on Steam.

I would gladly pay for the functionality included in this app, but luckily for all of us it's free to use! Especially during COVID I hope people can see the benefit the world could gain from further evolving virtual meet up spaces.

I just watched Scream with a room full of people who had never saw it, wow, what an experience that rivaled a real movie theater since everyone was much more willing to allow chatter about the flick, etc.

I'm a huge fan of space games, dogfighting, VR and HOTAS and I should mention I loved the original EVERSPACE.

I never imagined that this team would have been able to pull off a feat like this, EVERSPACE 2 improves upon the original in almost every way, looks incredibly beautiful and the narrative is very engaging and doesn't at all feel tacked on.

As I mentioned, I am a VR and HOTAS gamer and I can say happily that EVERSPACE 2's HOTAS support is A+. Every binding can be bound to a switch or axis on my Logitech X56 and within minutes I was doing barrel rolls in the Lylat System.

If you're a fan of the first game this is an easy decision to make, buy the damn game, if you never played the first game or weren't a fan of its rougelike gameplay then you too should give this game a try because it's gone in such a large and immersive direction that I think anyone could enjoy it.

Logitech X56 HOTAS + Oculus Rift VR review
Gameplay footage is linked at the end of this review!

After spending an hour with Project Wingman I can easily recommend it and say that it's well worth the $25 being asked. This doesn't feel like an early access or cash grab title at all and the quality exceeds that of its nearest competition, Ace Combat, in many ways.

It took only a few moments to get my X56 mapped and I enjoyed the level of customization provided for controls. Once in the game I was surprised to find that the campaign is right on the edges of an AAA production with an engaging narrative, great voice acting and visuals that are genuinely impressive.

Lets address the elephant in the room and talk about the comparisons everyone will want to make between this game, Ace Combat and DCS World. The latest Ace Combat had very unrealistic combat and a campaign that seemed to be ripped out of a Japanese anime, and DCS World has always prided itself on being a hardcore military aircraft sim with a brutal learning curve.

I would say Project Wingman lies in the middle of Ace Combat and DCS World. The combat is fun and easy to pick up, but doesn't feel arcadey and the narrative is grounded in a reasonable depiction of an alternative timeline for Earth. Playing with a HOTAS and VR your immersion will be through the roof!

If you're looking for a dogfighting game that is in the goldilocks zone of not being so difficult that you need to take a 12 week course, and not so easy that you feel like you're losing brain cells then Project Wingman is the game for you.
