I love the setting and the idea of realistic, grounded combat, but the locked on melee system is only serviceable against one person at a time, and you find yourself fighting multiple opponents often. Your only actual options against multiple opponents are to pluck at them with arrows before any fight is joined, or stealth kill/poison until only one remains. In 1v1 fights the melee is almost passable, but still feels like you and your opponent are swinging pool noodles at one another. There's little reaction from the enemy when hitting them, chaining hits together does little to nothing, and any time you close the distance with an enemy you are going to get shoved back off to a comfortable distance. Offense is inefficient compared to defense, so you're left with your thumb up your ass waiting for the AI to stop holding a sword over their head and actually swing it, only so you can dodge/perfect block and get a couple hits in.

Granted, my combat experience was the few fights I was able to seek out in my 11 HOURS of initial gameplay, which were disgustingly few. Spent almost all game stumbling through the countryside following bread crumb trails. I wouldn't even mind if there was a satisfactory fight waiting at the end of it, but instead I'm left feeling like I'm hobbling around on crutches with a broken arm trying to swordfight.

TL;DR The combat is absolute ass, the setting is pretty cool. Story seems pretty good too, but I can't push through all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to see its conclusion. Combat isn't hard, it's restrictive. If I want to play a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stealth archer I'll play Skyrim

Hardest PvP I've ever played, but the most gratifying once I got the hang of it.

Review is for the first 5 hours of gameplay.

Encounters are terribly balanced, gameplay/story is solid though. Don't even think about playing on a difficulty higher than normal, and fully expect to have to lower it far below that for some quite literally broken fights. Some fights are not possible in a practical sense depending on what class you made your character, as early on you don't have enough companions to be able to pick and choose for a healthy comp. Starting line-up is Bard, Fighter, and Barbarian, so if you wanted to make a martial character be ready for a bad time when the first enemy with damage resistance shows up and your whole party can do no damage to it. You're then stuck with the choice of lowering the difficulty of the encounter, or spending all of your money on bombs and cheesing the fight.

That said, I usually don't enjoy this style of RPG and still quite enjoyed it (until a few choice encounters.) Character creation is pretty extensive, spent quite a bit of time tweaking things so they were JUST right. Story from what I can tell so far is great, more quality voice acting than I expected.

I recommend the game, but if you're in no rush to play it wait a few weeks/months until the devs or modders sort out the horrific balancing of the encounters. Alternatively, just swallow your pride and crank the difficulty way down.

EDIT: Patch released today addressing ALL of my gripes with a few of the early encounters. Don't see a reason to wait on buying the game now, having a great time playing it.

It's not true to the original games. It is, however, an extremely fun and well produced game in its own right. This game surprised me when I sat down to play it with a friend on the XBOX 360, and it was some of the most fun I've ever had playing a game. I'm not in the camp that thinks ♥♥♥♥♥♥ jumpscares are the pinnacle of horror, and RE6 diverts from the earlier entries in that regard. Tension in the game varies by campaign, but it's almost always situational tension rather than a petty attempt at startling. You won't be anxious because a pop-out shouted BOO!, you'll be anxious because there's zombies pouring in from 6 different windows and you're low on ammo. Combat feels really gratifying, with a focus on brutal combos that have you destroying your enemies with melee after you weaken them with your guns. There's also tight controls (for a controller, a bit akward on keyboard) for rolling and dodging attacks, and even countering melee attacks if you have nearly frame-perfect timing. The combat depth in this game is insane, and can be extremely rewarding for those who take the time to master it. Some of the most fun I've ever had playing a game with a friend, heartily recommend playing co-op.

Fun game, pretty easy though. After playing through with no powers the first time (2nd highest difficulty) I couldn't imagine how easy the game would become playing with powers. Recommend doing at least one playthrough without powers, it will make the game feel much more rewarding when you have to outsmart people instead of teleporting past them etc.

Good game, but you'll have to jump through alot of hoops to get it working on Windows 10. Also, there's games for windows live, and that's even worse than Origin, if you can believe it.
