Starfield is your typical Bethesda RPG. It's not a space sim, although it has some ship combat and a ship building system, which can be frustrating at times but can also be quite fun if you are the type of person for it, but at the end of day it's not the real focus of the game.

One thing to note is that the exploration in Starfield works in a different way than what people are used to in Fallout or The Elder Scrolls. The Points of Interests / locations are scattered all across the galaxy. The real exploration in this game, where the most interesting things can be found, are not done on foot, but mostly in the star map, where you grav jump from one system to another looking for icons that indicate Points of Interests. You will often come across planets with three dots on it which means there is a location on it; sometimes it's a just a dungeon but other times it is an interesting location with side quests etc, where you just click on the icon and land at the location in a cutscene. On the other hand, if you try to explore on foot on planet surfaces (meaning if you land at a random place, or venture out into the wilderness from the boundary of the cities), you will mostly be met with randomly placed dungeons with minimal story elements in the form of notes and computer documents. These random dungeons are essentially just there to fill up the surface area for each planet and will get repetitive soon (I heard there are only 40-ish unique ones but I didn't verify), so you should treat them only as a form of endless dungeon for loot/XP farming. I did also have a few interesting findings on planet surfaces such as a very memorable spelunking cave with a very hidden route, but these are the rare exception and you shouldn't expect to find them a lot while exploring on foot.

Still, like other Bethesda RPGs, the real meat of the game here is in the handcrafted cities and quest locations, in the form of side quests and faction quests (of which there are a ton). The main quest is a bit bland in the first half where it basically just leads you to some of the biggest cities in the game and tasks you with finding artifacts, but it does get more interesting later on particularly when you start to unearth some of the truths like what actually happened to the Earth and why.

Overall, I would say Starfield is a solid game, nothing ground breaking, but it checks the marks for what you would expect from a Bethesda RPG, and it has a lot of interesting content in it. Compared to previous Bethesda titles, it is bigger and does many things better, but it also makes some compromises to create an RPG of this scale. It builds a sci-fi universe that chooses to be more grounded in reality (and thus one could also say "blander" in a sense) than the worlds of most other sci-fi games, and it can be a lot of fun to immerse yourself in it if you are the right type of person.

A great puzzle platformer, In fact, one of the best in recent memory. Ugly is very reminiscent of Braid in many aspects, not the least of which is its beautiful hand-drawn art style. But the similarities don't stop there. Fans of Braid will quickly notice the familiar hub world format and puzzle designs that are clever but not overly complicated, opting to focus more on interesting ideas instead of relying on logic complexity. The game did a very good job exploring its seemingly simple mechanics and rarely feels boring or repetitive. The boss fights at the end of each "world" are also very interesting, with well-made animations and reasonable difficulties that are neither too easy nor too hard. Story is a dark and tragic tale that can get quite depressing at moments, but I found myself always looking forward to finding more of the tidbits to try to piece together what happened.

I don't have the attention span to read Gravity's Rainbow and Invisible Cities so instead I just played this game. 10/10

Toodee and Topdee started fairly simple and stayed that way for a while, but as the game progresses to later chapters it starts to become more creative and challenging. There are a lot of clever ideas in its puzzle designs and the game explored its mechanics very well. There is no short of difficult challenges either. The game has a system that awards players with certain collectibles upon meeting certain conditions which I can see becoming quite difficult if you want to 100% the game. Also, the platforming in the late game is devilishly hard (personally I got quite frustrated near the end and had to turn on the in-game cheat system).

Unless you are really bored and have nothing else to play, I don't recommend this game. The gameplay here is a mix of puzzles and platforming but the game doesn't excel at either. The puzzles are very easy. I can think of two puzzles in the entire game that required just a little bit of thinking. All the other puzzles are either just busy work or scouring the map for a button. There are quite a number of mechanics, but they are not explored anywhere near their full potential, and I don't find them to be particularly creative as well. The platforming sections controls like a amateurish student project. There is no height variation depending on how long you hold the jump button, an industry standard dating back to the NES days.

Another thing is that I can't get the game to change its resolution. It's stuck in a weird 1704 * 960 resolution for me. Even if I run it in windowed mode and have the window maximized (my desktop resolution is 3840 * 2160), it's still as blurry. Didn't bother with configuration files personally but I saw others reporting they can't change resolution even with configuration files.

I heard this game is beautiful but I didn't expect it to be this beautiful... The art style actually didn't grip me at first, but the later half of the game really had me speechless of how stunning the scenes are, and I found myself constantly stop moving to just admire the view. There are a few puzzles in the game and although they are sparse and few, when they do appear they are actually quite good, always with creative new ideas. It's definitely quality over quantity.

This is a masterpiece. One of the best puzzle games of all time in fact. The best description I can give it is Stephan's Sausage Roll with a different mechanic, an open world and a better difficulty curve.

The puzzles in this game never look daunting or overly complex, yet the solution can be so cleverly hidden it often left me scratching my head swearing it's impossible—until that epiphany moment hit me and left me either in awe of how clever the logic design is, or feeling stupid how such a simple setup could stump me for so long (yes this is one of those games that made me feel stupid, and that's GREAT. Jonathan Blow disliked the phrase "make you feel clever" as a description of a great puzzle game and I've always held the same opinion through my own experience. I've always found that while a good puzzle game can make you feel clever, truly great puzzle games make you feel stupid. In his words, a good puzzle game shouldn't just give the player an illusion of being clever; they should actually BE clever. But I digressed.)

The mechanic of the game looks extremely simple, with only two basic puzzle elements (trees and rocks, each with two variants of different height), but their can interact with each other in countless different ways that make mind-blowingly clever puzzles. Throughout the game you will constantly discover new rules of how these two things interact with each other, some with dramatic effects, others very subtle, but all of them are important for solving puzzles and finding hidden secrets scattered in the open world.

Talking about the open world and secret puzzles, this is actually where the game really, REALLY shines. Like some of Draknek's other games, this game also has a meta-puzzle aspect. But I would argue no other game has crafted meta-puzzles as fantastic as this. When you have played for a while and started to understand the game, the open world becomes a collection of higher-level puzzles each composed of multiple smaller single level puzzles, and a whole new layer of gameplay opens up. These meta-puzzles can be devilishly hard, but also extremely satisfying to solve.

Another thing I'd like to mention about the game is that for the longest time, the gameplay looked to be just on a 2D plane like any traditional sokoban-style game—until you realize later in the game the z-axis is actually important. The height of tree stumps, rocks and logs, especially their relative height differences, actually plays into the rules of the game in a subtle yet very consistent way. It's really when I started to think about the height difference rules that I realize just how well thought out the rules of the game really is.

Absolutely recommend for any puzzle lovers as well as anyone new to the genre looking for a game with top-notch design while also being newcomer friendly at the same time.

Very nice puzzle game. I like how the mechanics is very simple yet the design of the puzzles are quite creative and clever. There are a lot of references to Portal, but the game plays more like The Talos Principle (although a lot shorter and for the most part, easier). Probably the best 3D first-person puzzle game I played in a few months (probably since The Sojoun). Really exceeded my expectation.

Steam told me this is the first game I added to my steam account and I needed to play it to complete a task for the spring cleaning event.

Now after playing it, I'm seriously questioning my decision to download steam 4 years ago. I probably even regretted being born a bit.

I love this game. I've played many 5-minute-long "art" games that are obscure or just pretentious. None of them actually moved me quite like this one.
