Sparking Zero is a very alright game but oh man does it fall short in a lot of places

-Presentation is overall ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fantastic, with gorgeous visuals that make it easily the best looking 3D anime game. Except when they aren't, cases like Jiren's transformation looking like a bug as it just pauses, swaps to the full power model in full view, and then continues.
The sparking episodes (what-ifs) have extremely well done in-engine animations, but regular story episodes are just slideshows and pre-rendered footage. I get that it's the same story we've seen dozens of times by now, but at least put a bit of effort into animating things like the first time Goku goes SSJ vs Frieza.
There are special finish animations, but there's only 3 of them. Two of them are closeups of Goku (Z - Mid SSJ Angry Kamehameha, Z - Late SSJ3 Dragon Fist), and the third is an actually pretty well done animation for winning with the Mafuba as Roshi. Overall it's kind of disappointing how there's not even generic animations of a beam being shown from space or something like a map-based animation of a character being thrown through the terrain after an ultimate to end the match.
Maps are lacking, with there being 12 (plus day, evening and night variations for some).
Alternate costumes are also lackluster, with most of them being battle damaged versions that show up in gameplay naturally being able to be used from the start instead. Things like great saiyawoman, kid goku's original gi, and end of Z goku's blue gi being missing as well as many others.

-Gameplay overall feels good, except for how many defensive options there are making games devolve into spamming vanish (which unlike previous entries does not get stricter to do as the chain count gets higher) or super counter, which costs no resources to do and can be used infinitely until someone messes up the timing on it. These add up to make battles vs other players feel extremely drawn out as you go several seconds between getting a hit and actually being able to combo off of it.
Vs the AI is a much different matter. Generally they're not of note, being okay but not really posing a challenge which is the case for many games like this, but in episode mode they are a different beast. There are certain points in the story where you need to quickly win the battle to unlock a what-if, and in these episodes the AI are programmed to run away from you and also perfectly counter your attacks, leading these parts to be beaten with the simple strategy of charge up to sparking > hit the AI until they super counter, vanish that, the AI will then vanish, you vanish, they vanish, you vanish, and you get a hit because they always stop at 2 making them boring and predictable to fight.

-Balance. As expected balance is pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥, with characters like Gogeta (SSJ4/Blue), Vegito blue, MUI Goku, Beerus, Whis, etc simply having more health and dealing more damage than other characters, making them the obvious pick if you want to win 1v1 battles (a skill gap due to the numerous defensive and offensive options is possible, but shockingly hard if they're halfway decent at the game). Some characters are better than other at punching up (notably I've found Z - Mid SSJ Goku to have extremely good damage) but overall it's still an uphill battle.
To alleviate this dominance, you can instead choose to play DP battle, a team battle with a point-buy system that also unfortunately has it's own issues. Yajirobe is a menace currently with a 2 point cost and the ability to heal himself and stall out the timer, but a nerf to him has been announced. The Ginyu Force is pretty obviously worth a higher cost than what they have but their costs add up to exactly 15 so that you can run the entire team. Pretransformed characters cost extra points, but this means you can also pick base characters and spend resources to transform them mid-match, meaning a character like DBS/GT Goku, DBS Vegeta, and Goku Black will jump from being worth 5 to 8 (DBS and Z Broly both jump even higher, 5-9). This leads to the pick strategies either being cheap units to act as healthbars for timerscam strats, characters that are better than they should be for the cost, or characters who can jump in power mid-match.
Some characters are also just not fun to play. Videl has low health and damage while also not being able to use the vanish ending sequence for combos, Nappa's specials feel extremely clunky to use, characters that don't fly canonically (IE Mr Satan, Roshi, Kid Goku) instead have a weird hover that causes them to slowly descend when not attacking. I get why it exists but dear god it makes them feel janky.

For something actually good, custom battle is a great mode! Giving players the opportunities to make their own stories in the game is a good decision. Dialogue is picked from preset blocks in an expansive list (think generic phrases and then ones that have a block where you can insert a term from a list, IE "I'm going to defeat you, X!" where X can be something like Frieza or Saiyan). It also supports sharing them online so you can upload your own stories and play other people's.

Overall I'd say it's a 6-7/10 game that I really want to enjoy, but several issues hold me back from being able to fully like it and I hope they're fixed as the game is patched and updated.

gbo2 is a good game marred by terrible netcode, bad ranked systems, and gacha mechanics that just really don't work in a game where you're going to want to have atleast one suit in every class for each power ranking as native suits are basically always going to be better than suits you uptier
if you want an actually good experience, go get a playstation and pick up code fairy which is just a paid campaign version of this game
