I really wish I could give this game a thumbs up. Visually it's fantastic and looks very authentic to the period. But the building all look similar to the point where they blend and you can't really determine what you've placed or where. There needs to be overlay options that show icons for each building for simple scrolling.

My biggest critique of this game however has to be the linear progression you are forced into. The game has so many complex mechanics that it's a shame that they decided to lock the progression trees to such a granular path. There's no ability to attempt to develop an industry early or develop a market for a niche item. You will progress the same way every game. The only thing that will change is the resources around you. Other games in this genre give you the ability to fail, or specialize your town to cater to the surrounding opportunities. I have not witnessed that in this game. I'm simply designing my town to get the next 'unlock' for the Town Center, so that I can 'unlock' the next tier of support buildings. Imo this is a poor design choice in an otherwise well designed game. It's a big enough issue for me that I have to give this a thumbs down.

This is a tough review for me. I bought the base game as an impulse purchase to see if I'd have any interest in it. I'm not a hunter, but decided to try this game as my first foray into the genre. To my surprise the base game captivated me enough that I played it for 6 hours. It was very bare-bones with only a few guns, but the unlock progression kept things interesting and made me want to continue playing. But the pace is SLOW (duh it's a hunting game). It felt like actual progression was very limited with few thing to unlock. So I looked at the DLC and figured for the price and hours played this could help make the game a bit more well rounded.

Unfortunately, the DLC makes this game INCREDIBLY easy by comparison. Any DLC you buy is immediately unlocked for free. Your dog, your ATV, a whole arsenal of guns. Now the challenge has been completely removed. Sure you can self impose limitations, but I simply wanted more avenues to pursue as I progressed. Not to pay to win. There REALLY needs to be an option to unlock for free or continue progression as normal. Completely sucked the challenge out of the game.

The game itself is beautiful. The animals at least thus far are kinda stupid and basic in their mechanics. They run around sporadically and get caught on foliage like it's their job. I don't think I've seen anything that I'd constitute as "natural" in terms of wildlife interaction. No predators chasing prey, no animals competing in displays of dominance. It all feels very robotic, which is not what you want in a wildlife game. Overall though the game accomplishes what it sets out to do. To be a hunting game.

So I give it a thumbs up. But these improvements should be considered:
1. More natural animal interaction.
2. Improve pathfinding for animals to prevent catching on foliage/rocks.
3. Make DLC 'free' unlocks optional as opposed to standard in settings.

This game does exactly what it sets out to do. Fantastic resource management game. Relatively easy to pick up if you're use to the genre and the low-poly artwork is still very pleasing to the eye. Definitely worth the purchase.

At this point in the game's development, I cannot recommend it. The premise is sound but the execution is a lacking. The colonist's morale mechanics need to be seriously revamped. The game at this point seems designed to force you to fail, with negative effects being stronger and lasting longer than any positive effects you can come up with to counteract them. This results in a snowball effect where the colonists ultimately just end up perpetually murdering each other.

Updating my review now that the abundance of cheaters has been addressed. This game has a lot of potential. There's still numerous quality of life fixes that should be implemented such as fixing names and setting the camera on group members by default when you're eliminated but all in all a fun experience.

Incredibly fun game. Much like the Civ 4 although far prettier and now with a redesigned combat system which I find very enthralling. Terribly addicting and incredibly well designed. A must buy for a fan of the series.
