I attempted to play this game online but could not get through a single match. After 1 round (of no lag) and entering round 2, the game would disconnect me stating that a network error occurred. I couldn't find any fixes online or on the Reddit so I refunded. Do not sit through 3+ hours of tutorial without trying the online mode as I did. Game was solid though.

This game is not just going around and solving mysteries, contrary to my first impression when buying. The gameplay loop is a series of meeting the characters, exploring the world / learning the story, a "Free Play" mode, uncovering the murder evidence, then the class trial. The Free Play mode threw me off the first time I was playing because it is oddly similar to a dating sim. You choose a character to get closer with and your bond becomes closer, allowing you to learn more about that character.

Obviously this game is very similar to the first one, but improves on the mistakes the first one made. The first title was a good entry to the story but lacked a few things:
-Unique character design: A majority of the cast in the second game felt more unique (with the exception of a few) leading to the majority of my favorite characters in the series coming from this game.
-More interactive minigames: Some of the minigames in the first game felt boring or monotonous, although the games are just as repetitive in this game, the difficulty is scaled up and the games are more entertaining.
-More interesting location: Not just inside of a school, a series of islands where each one feels unique. You can easily recall where each major monument is located.
-Interactive search feature: Now when exploring each room the cursor moves freely when scanning for items to investigate. Makes the process more engaging and feel less buggy.

The game capitalizes on the shortcomings of the first game, adding more gameplay / more fun gameplay while not taking away from any of the mysteries / investigation work that gave the first game it's charm. My favorite game in the series :)

I played this game for 14 hours in the Beta. I have just launched the game to play the full release. I have played than less than 5 minutes and I have already come across a plethora of bugs. There was a visual bug on launch of the game that did not allow me to see my health / gold, important aspects of the game and necessary information in order to survive. Also ALL my progress that I accumulated in the 14 hours played has been lost. I launched the game and none of my progress has been saved. This is not an intended mechanic because my friends have all of their stuff from the Beta. Since the Beta, no changes have been made to the game and after you play the game for 3 hours you've probably seen the entire game. The only reason I logged more than 5 hours into this game was because I had friends to play with, and even then, this game is painful to play. Unless you have a group of friends to play with, do not buy this game. This game is very repetitive and is FULL of bugs. 14 hours of gameplay gone just like that.
