THIS AGAIN.
This game feels way more unique than most games like it, but it has surprisingly little depth. You've seen it all rather fast, and then it's just the same thing over and over. I think somehow they designed themselves into a corner. Feels like there was a lot more someone /wanted/ to add, but they couldn't figure out how and just gave up.

Even if all I was doing was leveling up a civilization like in AoE2 (was it 2 I'm thinking of? 3? w/e), or just researching more tech/upgrade options...
nope, a couple playthroughs, that's it. Heck, even the maps feel that way. You'd think with modern procedurally-generated maps you wouldn't be thinking on your second game, "what, THIS again?"
Yup, it's this again.

Man, I wish it was better. Was looking for something better.

If you're looking at negative reviews about crashes...
haven't seen a single one yet.

Two bugs I've seen: swapping weapons at the exact same time you throw out a "pal" sometimes bugs out your weapons for a while, preventing you from using them;
if you're knocked while falling and against a wall, you can be pushed into inaccessible areas where you are almost guaranteed to not get out of. (If this happens, alt+f4 ASAP before the game saves you there, and come back.)

Those bugs happen about once every 100 minutes. That is: it's barely buggy at all. Haven't seen the save file corruption at all.

I got a lot of criticisms, but y'know what, it's alpha, and honestly, it's already really damn good.

I dunno if I really recommend it. It IS as simple as people describe.

It looks like Wizardry from 40 years ago, but with a nicer art for characters and monsters. The abundance of classes makes it look like there is depth there that isn't. Your first time through you keep imagining that maybe you'll find items on the floor, or chests or something, but other than some unique monsters that give you a bit more gold for beating them, and some teleporters, there doesn't seem to be anything. The map is the same each time.

It's just a game where you barely need to pay attention, arrow keys around the map, automatically beating enemies and leveling up until you get to the big baddie, rinse and repeat.

I'm not sure what I wish would be added, because I actually /like/ the simplicity of it... but then due to the simplicity there's almost no value in replayability.
I dunno, maybe it would benefit from some magical items giving bonuses to your party, or skills for classes... or map randomization? I dunno.

Wish I got it half-off or somethin' but it's only ever been at a 10% discount. Can't complain too much.

Some things are better than in any of the previous Civilization games, like the hex grid is absolutely essential, and the combat where units don't tend to die in one turn is great, and the individual civs feel unique,

but I just cannot stand how dumbed-down this game is from the previous, by making it much simpler and streamlined. It's like each generation they remove more techs, remove more wonders, remove units and their promotions... as an example of a problem, it's now practically impossible to complete a Wonder on any harder difficulty because there's simply so few of them, so everyone is competing for the same 2 or 3 wonders.

Plus I noticed the civipedia entries seem like they're written for 10 year olds. (Heavy moralizing about "good" and "bad" in history that was never there before, as well.) Is that the problem? Did they simply decide they wanted this entry aimed at little kids? Maybe.

Just finished the first one yesterday, found the writing was okay but in the end you wanted to skip it... it became tedious. This one is immediately better. Most things that they hadn't figured out feel figured out...
Except suddenly a lot of enemies are imbalanced. Well, I guess that happens. It was remarkable how balanced the enemies felt in the first game... went from the players being so imbalanced to the enemies in this one.

Well, now, the writing is actually much more engrossing imo.

Not bad for a couple bucks. Bad for more than a couple bucks.
It's essentially casual because losses seem to mean nothing, except for the allocation of skill points... since those can't be refunded, and while at first it looks like it's no big deal since there aren't all that many levels or skills, it really is a big deal because of how grindy it is right from the start.

Writing is crap, translation (I assume / hope this was a translation effort) is crap (bad enough to hurt to read but good enough to never be funny from how bad it is),
gets a negative review because they ask for fifteen bucks

nah, I'll give you two

at the same time, I don't hate it; it's pretty mindless so I can listen to some audiobooks and podcasts while i play, been falling behind

Usually I stick to easy point and click adventures like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Vampire Survivors was a great change of pace, offfering far more modes of tactics, like upgraded Whip / Song / Guns / Santa / Laurel / Ice wand every single game. Would repeat over and over.
