It's an extraction shooter so it's easy to pick up and play. But at the same time, it's an extraction shooter so it's not really all that unique outside of the world building. Don't get goaded into buying this if you don't really like this genre because it's not going to be any better. Otherwise, it plays better than the others on the market so give it a shot if that's up your alley.

But in all honesty, Embark let this game through with one of the worst UI/UX into full release I've had to fumble with recently. If you're already short on time, maybe invest it into something else more enjoyable? I'd wait until they decide to improve the overall UX. Otherwise, you're going to be spending an unnecessary amount of time slogging through what feels like fluid UI only to click/navigate through menus and prompts that should be way more streamlined (for both PC and Consoles). It's a huge step back from how coherent (well, mostly) their UI/UX felt on The Finals and then coming to this.

It genuinely sours play sessions when you extract to play inventory sim or have to re-create your usual loadout on a wipe. Losing your kit really isn't all that big of a deal but losing time because of having to deal with such a clunky user interface really sucks. And if you're playing in a group -- grab a drink because you're gonna be waiting awhile.

Not applicable to all but also worth noting: if you've played The Finals and struggled with Embark's server issues due to latency issues or desyncs, it's present here too and does affect the gameplay every couple of rounds (which is to say, too often). Embark has a history of not being transparent about this on whether it's infrastructure-related, the game itself, or something else but given The Finals' history, it may be something that'll be a constant confusion for you as it is for me.

Early Access Review
The concept of the game in itself is cool. I get the audience that it caters to and what it's aimed to try and do.

But, the game in itself needs significant amount of work and polish. I don't think it can really even be considered an early access/beta title with how poorly optimized it is. It runs like an alpha game. Most of the time, I feel like I'm spending more time dealing with the overall lagginess of the game than I am actually trying to progress with the world development itself.

At the time of the review, this is on version 0.8.3.3. I genuinely hope it gets better but this game isn't worth either the full or a sale price unless you want to slog through an already-intentional slower paced design.

My specifications for others to compare before deciding:
- i7 6700K
- RTX 2080 Super
- 16GB of RAM
