Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a collaborative effort between Platinum Games and Hideo Kojima.

What we’re left with is an extremely fast-paced hack and slash title set in the Metal Gear universe. Solid Snake fans will immediately be disappointed as you once again play as the ninja cyborg; Raiden.

The highlights of the game are the fast-paced combat, the stunning visuals, and the ridiculous boss fights. MGSRR does a great job with their combat system which is designed to keep you on the offensive while you chain together parries and attacks without the over-reliance on dodging.

The game also adds a “slice anywhere” mechanic which allows you to cut wherever you aim. This essentially allows you to cut enemies and objects in the environment into a million pieces. This really doesn’t add anything significant to the gameplay but it’s still quite a bit of fun.

The graphics, visuals, and environments are great. It’s a treat to watch the explosions and chaos unfold around you as you move from one varied area to the next. Unfortunately, the game is fairly linear and doesn’t allow for much room for exploration as you’re constantly hit with frustrating blue boundaries.

The game features an over the top story with plenty of humor mixed in. It’s entertaining but don’t expect the same level of depth as other Metal Gear Games.

The inclusion of VR missions, where you have to complete simple objectives in a virtual reality training program add a bit more content. The main game is very short however, clocking in at around 5 hours. Granted it’s a fun-filled 5 hours as the game features some of the best boss fights on the market.

A few extra things to note:
A controller is recommended for the game.
This is a console port. It does look better on the PC than the Xbox 360 and PS3 but it is capped at 1920 x 1080 resolution. This means if you're using a 2560 x 1440 resolution monitor, you won't be able to run it at that resolution, you'll have to downscale to 1080p.

For a more in-depth review, here’s a video I made:

http://steamproxy.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=214546187

Pros:
Amazing gameplay
Stunning Visuals
Fantastic Boss Fights
Can cut things up into a million pieces

Cons:
Short Length and a lack of content in general
Linear with a lack of exploration
Story isn't up to par with other Metal Gear games.

Season two marks the next chapter in Telltale’s The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead emphasizes narrative and character development over all else. If you’re looking for solid gameplay, you may be disappointed in that regard. On the other hand though, TWD excels at providing an engaging story and features extremely likable characters. It plays out in the form of a point and click adventure game which feels a lot like an interactive movie. There are no puzzles, and the gameplay is handled through quick time events most of the time.

Season two continues shortly after where the first left off and this time you’ll be playing as Clementine opposed to Lee. Seeing the world through the eyes of a little girl immediately makes the game feel more depressing and hopeless as she has to fend for herself now. The zombies, which felt fairly weak in season one are suddenly a much more dangerous threat for Clementine to deal with as well.

The story telling is second to none; however my main issue with The Walking Dead is the whole illusion of choice aspect. At the time of this review, only the first episode of season two is available but this problem was quite prevalent in season one. At first glance, the game will make you feel as if your choices have a major influence on the story. Upon further investigation, you’ll realize that regardless of your choices, you’ll always be brought to the same conclusion. This makes The Walking Dead an extremely enjoyable experience the first time you play but it essentially eliminates any element of re-playability afterwards.

If you’re looking for a great story, definitely check it out; just don’t expect to influence it much.

Rayman Legends is quite possibly the best 2d platformer released in the past 10 years.

It’s the follow up title to Rayman Origins (also a great game) and if you missed it, 40 of the stages from Origins have been included in Legends as additional re-mastered content.

It features over 120 different stages each with varying atmosphere, amazing music, and plenty of hidden collectibles. Each of the levels are hand drawn and beautiful to look at. Despite not being overly impressive on a technical level, Rayman uses a timeless style. While games like Crysis 3 probably won’t look that great 10 years from now, Rayman Legends will no doubt retain its charm.

The game also has multiple characters to choose from along with a host of unlockables. There are underwater stealth missions, time trials, and even musical stages where you jump to the rhythm of remixed popular songs. The inclusion of daily and weekly challenges allows you to compete with your friends, adding tons of re-playability.

If you enjoyed classic 2d platformers like Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country, you should check out Rayman Legends as it’s the closest thing to them in this day and age.

Metro Last Light is often overlooked but it’s definitely one of the best games of the year.

Set in a post-apocalyptic Moscow which was destroyed by nuclear war. A small handful of the population managed to seek shelter in the subway tunnels beneath the city. Twenty years have passed, the world has become inhabited with mutants and the surviving population has broken up into various factions.

Featuring a strong narrative and great pacing, Metro will keep you immersed the entire time. The story is told through eyes of a ranger named Artyom and not through irritating and pacing-breaking cutscenes like a lot of other games. Journal entries can also be found and Artyom serves as a narrator who often talks about the events unfolding around him.

It’s the direct sequel to Metro 2033 but playing the first title isn’t required to enjoying the game.

Metro Last Light tries to do a bit of everything, it’s primarily a first person shooter but it incorporates stealth elements very well. It also feels like a survival horror at points and can be quite tense when you venture out onto the irradiated surface with a gas mask. The audio is great and the screams of mutants in the distance will always keep you on the edge of your seat. There is a fairly large variety of enemies which are all hideous, unique and well done.

The atmosphere is amazing, same with the graphics. It’s worth noting that a somewhat powerful computer is required to running Metro Last Light. I was able to run the game at 1920 x 1080 on Very High at around 70FPS average with an Intel i5 3470K Processor, 16gbs of RAM, and an Nvidia GTX 560TI. I have heard that the game does have some issues with certain ATI cards though which can be fixed by turning off Physx in the settings.

Metro Last Light also has multiple endings and plenty of re-playability. It may appear linear early on but it quickly branches out later allowing plenty of room for exploration.

Tomb Raider is a successful reboot to the franchise.

You once again play as Lara Croft but in this installment, she's fresh out of college and no longer the confident tomb raiding adventurer from other games.

The game begins with a shipwreck; leaving Lara stranded on an island somewhere south of Japan in the Devil’s Sea. The Island is beautiful, featuring a variety of different areas to explore along with tons of hidden unlockables.

Tomb Raider feels like a lot of other games combined, mainly Resident Evil 4 mixed with a bit of Uncharted and maybe some Assassin’s Creed style platforming. This meshes together very well into a lengthy and enjoyable action/adventure game.

The story is somewhat forgettable but the gameplay is solid (although it’s fairly easy). The multiplayer isn't worth mentioning, it's decent but not anything special. You should purchase Tomb Raider to experience the single player.

Dark Souls is one of my absolute favorite games of the generation.

It features a giant interconnected world with tons of hidden areas to explore.

The game is challenging but not overwhelming so. Dying is a necessary aspect of learning the game but once you get the hang of it, progression can offer a very strong sense of accomplishment.

The combat is rock solid and skill based with each of the weapons having their very own unique move-set.

Dark Souls has RPG elements and an extremely unique multiplayer component. It's set up as a single player game but you can occasionally see the ghosts of other players which can offer hints on where (or where not to go). Players can also leave notes for one another and can be summoned to help with the many bosses. On the other hand, they can also invade your world and attempt to kill you.

Dark Souls also offers plenty of replayability. It's not uncommon to spend 50 hours or so on your initial playthrough and once you complete the game, it has a New Game+ where everything becomes increasingly difficult. I've played through the game four times on Xbox and it never gets old.

Just make sure you play the game with a controller as it isn't very keyboard and mouse friendly.

Bioshock Infinite is an amazing game. In this instalment, you play as Booker DeWitt, an ex-Pinkerton who travels to the floating city Columbia in search of a girl.

Similar to the other Bioshock games, this is a single player story driven FPS. Along with the typical run and gun controls, you're given various powers along with a sky-hook which allows for fast paced rail platforming.

The art direction and narrative are well done, however I don't think it quite lives up to first Bioshock as I personally preferred Rapture's atmosphere. The combat is a bit too easy as well.

This game is still a must-play though, buy it if you haven't already.

Xcom Enemy Unknown is a great reboot to the Xcom franchise.

It's your job to defend the planet from a massive alien invasion. The game does a great job conveying a strong sense of urgency along with a risk/reward system as you're often forced to make difficult decisions.

The game offers tactical combat, and RPG elements. Your soldiers will level up and unlock new abilities while scientific research awards access to new weapons, armor, and gadgets.

The game is great and definitely worth buying.

Civilization V is the thinking man's game. It doesn't require lightning reflexes, speed or precision, however it is probably one of the most complex games ever created.

You're able to pick one of many civilizations to guide from 4000BC to the Present, allowing you to shape their culture, military and economic structure among others. You control everything, from where to build a city, how you allocate resources, scientific research, religion, espionage, tourism, corporations, and more.

The game has an extremely intricate diplomacy system as well which allows for you to befriend or antagonize the other civilizations. There are multiple ways to win a game, allowing for multiple play-styles.

As someone who has been playing the Civilization games for over 20 years, I strongly recommend Civilization V with all of its DLC.

Civilization V has also made our list for the top 35 games of the generation. To see where it ranks, here's the video:

Awesomenauts is truly an awesome game, it combines traditional MOBA (DOTA, LoL, etc) style gameplay with 2d platforming.

The gameplay is addictive, skill based and tons of fun to play with friends. There are a few annoying issues, such as players being able to leave and rejoin the game without consequence in order to pick a counter to your character.

I recommend the game to anyone regardless of how new or experienced you are to gaming.
