I'm late, but my faith in Humanity has been restored (the game, not actual humanity).

....Bird-watchers and those just looking out for birds will find something to like about Just Crow Things, between its chaotic gameplay, level variety, and the titular crow. It’s not without its flaws, but it packs in enough entertainment to murder an afternoon.

...In a world so afraid of change, it is refreshing to see 11 Bit Studio swing for the fences here. Frostpunk 2 is not just another Frostpunk. It is an effort to set out and try something new in an established world. For some, the changes may take some getting used to, but even with some of the minor hiccups from the new game mechanics, this is a step in the right direction for the series. Frostpunk 2 takes risks and is rewarded handsomely by being more than just another sequel.

...Nuke Them All is like what happens when you go to a self-serve frozen custard store and blend all your favorite flavors together. You might get a taste of chocolate and mint every few bites, but the blend of all the flavors is completely robbing you of getting to enjoy any section on its own. Any attempt to add something new to give the treat a fun twist is just a sad cherry on top that will just fall to the side of the bowl.

Bo: Path of the Tea Lotus is a metroidvania inspired by Japanese folklore with a focus on movement. Indie developer, Squid Shock Studios, delivers a debut title that is beautiful, challenging, and at times frustrating. In its quieter moments, Bo’s hand-drawn art style stands out with its detailed characters and eye-catching backgrounds. Once on the move, players will find themselves acrobating through multiple screens, paying no mind to enemies below. Traversal, while satisfying in its own right, leaves something to be desired on the combat side. That said, Bo: Path of the Tea Lotus is a mostly satisfying entry in the genre that will hold players over until Silksong comes out or they die, whichever comes first...

...Still Wake the Deep isn’t reinventing the horror genre, but it doesn’t need to. A fascinating atmospheric setting mixed with stellar voice performances creates an experience that isn’t just some “Walking Simulator”. It’s far from perfect, with some tedious underwater sections, and a key character bowing out a bit too early, but the overall experience is one rich in detail and character. The narrative’s exploration of perception and the feeling of being just another “body/cog” leave a lasting impression that will stick with you, long after your last shift on the rig.

Rauniot is a bite-sized game that gets the vibes right and has some good quality of life decisions that keep it from becoming tedious. While I’d love a longer experience, what is here is mostly great. I don’t know if its comedic moments are all intentional, but it pulls them off perfectly while leaning into the dog-eat-dog mentality of a world at its end.

...#Blud feels like one of those Saturday morning cartoons that defined a generation’s childhood. Its humor and animation style call back to the likes of Dexter’s Laboratory and the Powerpuff Girls. While combat and mission structure could use some fine-tuning, they don’t totally derail this freshman vampire hunting trip. Becky Brewster and her fellow Carpentersvillians take on aggressive expansion from vampires and tech bros and have one hell of a time fighting off both groups of blood suckers.

Pepper Grinder is a bite-sized action platformer that packs a hell of a kick. Developer, Ahr Ech, delivers a challenging and fun experience that pays homage to great 2D platformers, while also leaving a lasting impression of its own. The game successfully caters to collectors, completionists, and speed runners alike, without compromising the enjoyment of any one group for the benefit of another. It’s a game that while not the longest, will leave you satisfied with the handful of hours it will take you to grind through it.
