It remains the only true military sandbox simulator, and for that I have to recommend it.
The simulation is kinda jank, development of content took very little care to balance it's self around the largest content additions (CUP and RHS) meaning that balance is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ on almost all modded servers, and sometimes it just flat runs like ass.
But it's still the only true military sandbox simulator, and for that I have to recommend it.

This is still, many years later, one of my favorite cheap stupid games on steam.
Going in to it you have to understand nothing is going to make sense and that none of what is given to you should be taken seriously.
It is a, on sale, sixty nine cent videogame. It is a first person shooter. It has coop.
You buy this, not for the multiplayer, but for the coop. You will not find a match of multiplayer with full teams in your region ever. You will however host a server after gifting the game to a couple friends and ♥♥♥♥ around for an hour or two.
And that will be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ great hour or two. Choose the winter event map, turn on all the wacky ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, give yourselves max money and just go at it.
Sixty. Nine. Cents.
You could do a lot worse.

I just finished the second chapter on the second hardest difficulty and I have to say, so far I am absolutely and entirely impressed with how strong of a game this is. Every little detail is well crafted in to what amounts to one of the best games I've played in the last five years. Single player games, especially ones I die often in, have a hard time captivating me due to my dumbass adhd and inability to focus. Dusk cuts through that by keeping the most important factors of a shooty game in mind.
1. Movement

3. Notdiement
Health packs, ammo, and targets are all more than abundant when the game decides to throw you in to a ♥♥♥♥ heap. You'll go from crawling through dark, skin walker infested corridors to a wide arena full of fire blasting cultists, military personnel, and god knows what within seconds flat. All of the weapons come in hand, for a while I felt that the pistols might have been beat out by the shotgun for general use but I was soon found wrong by their utility in ranged plinking of lower tiered enemies. The dodge function is absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ genius, I love it, 10/10. Coupled with a great (albeit buggy) sound track I don't think there's a single game on steam worth twenty dollars that can compete with Dusk.
I do however have four complaints that I hope can be addressed in possible future bug fix updates and (fingers crossed) expansions to the game.
1. The flash light, I understand the game is a thriller and the nature of a thriller is as such that the flash light shouldn't be much more useful than a limp banana. Fair. Unfortunately in 1080 the flashlight is not only useless, but incredibly painful. To the point I'm getting really bad eyestrain while trying to navigate corridors. On top of that the circle appears as a 4x4 "square" that doesn't illuminate many of the hallways properly, giving at best a slight illumination to the ceiling and floor. I've noticed the game's engine handles ambient lighting rather well, if possible I'd request a rework of that or maybe a torch that produces ambient light instead. Would also fit the whole "You dropped down a deep ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and knocked out your (light source)" thing without any trouble.
2. Air control, it feels incredibly touchy, I don't know enough to fix this so all I can do is bring some attention to it. I would also like to see the dodging be able to couple with jumping so I can pull some dumb ass long jumps. I can see the scifi elements of half-life influencing the story, but I also would like to see maybe bunny hopping as well? :^)
3. Enemy count and difficulty (this will also tie in to 4) I found myself often almost disappointed with how little I'm gibbing enemies. This of course is not saying that I want a thousand enemies shoved in to a corridor when you're trying to create a feeling of suspense, rather while in the arenas the pacing and ability to cheese the ai made the game feel almost slow. I recently finished C&C renegade and while on low health the enemies dropped health/armor. This helped facilitate the feeling of running and gunning moreso than only the static health packs scattered around the map, maybe incorporate that in to the game? As it stands the strategy is to just dodge around to cover, pick off the big hitters with the sniper, and massacre the last few grunts. Not saying at all I need big bullet sponges, just more stuff to see go boom splat.
4. Sound track bugging and misplaced cues. (Hope I'm using the right cue, queue? cue?) While rampaging around slapping ass and taking names the sound track would cut in for a boss fight or slaughter house arena only to be cut short because again, there's not really that many enemies to beat on. In one of the earlier chapters I entered a barn or some ♥♥♥♥, the sound track started blaring, I got hyped, enemies came in, killed them and then.... It just kinda kept going. It's weird, the game rewards exploration obviously and I could tell where the next wave trigger was but my adhd ass floundered around for a bit picking ♥♥♥♥ up all while the music played in the background like I was some superman or some ♥♥♥♥. Didn't fit. And on the level with the boss fight with the floating islands you can start the battle by stacking barrels in front of the door and blowing them in to the lady's face with the mortar. This aggros her but doesn't start the boss music. I got it to the point where I found the trigger for the music and the real aggro, and was able to complete the boss fight without triggering the music once. Small oversight I don't think anyone on your team expected for a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ like me to find out but just something worth mentioning. Similar instances are around elsewhere in the game but I dont think anyone wants to sit here and listen to me ramble all day about audio triggers and the like.

tl;dr
Wonderful game, great atmosphere, amazing aesthetic, killer soundtrack.. It's a 100% genuine throwback to ye olde games of yesteryear and the best 20$ I spent this year so far. My complaints are incredibly specific and will not affect the sheer majority of players.

Though quite well made and a very fun battlegrounds game unfortunately it was not one meant to last, at least from what I could see from content additions thus far. Variety is the spice of life and without new map additions matches become very samey over time.
Though I do feel as I havet gotten my time out of this game and I enjoyed every second of it the battlegrounds genre does not entertain me anymore and with the playerbase slowly dying and matches becoming smaller and smaller I cannot see myself playing this game any time again in the future.
If one of the developers does read this I would like to say though I do not recommend this game this is by no means a negative review. You did a great job at making a fun battlegrounds game and should content come in the future I will be playing more and would be more than happy to change my review.

Where do I start.
I have over 6000 hours in this game, been playing since 2012. I hate it. I hate everything about it. The few, so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ few moments of bliss when I'm piloting some of my favorite aircraft from wwii and pushing them to the limit of their performance envelope is the only thing that brings me back. Sometimes months at a time but eventually I always drop it again for something more rewarding. I've got dozens of old event aircraft sitting in hangar I don't even touch anymore. Planes, planes used to be more like a simulator and back in the day we all always fantasized about maybe realistic battles keeping the third person camera but removing the nametags and radar, and they did, but only in combined tank battles. Which brings up the irony that tank battles is not fun, rather flying planes and dogfighting where there is an actualy, palpable, incredibly important objective to defend and attack is miles more fun, miles more interesting than the plane exclusive battle mode. In tank battles you don't have a radar to keep you constantly updated on how many people are on your tail, only your team mates and your own situational awareness. In tank battles you see all sorts of aircraft ranging from low tier meme ♥♥♥♥ like twin engine bombers to jets fitted with anti tank cannons. Gone in tank mixed rb is the interceptor meta that makes playing planes the most boring ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ imaginable. You now have something that everyone is fixated around, the cap points and their friendly tanks. Everything is viable in tank rb, everything if it can carry bombs or it at the very least has a forward gun, it can do something. That's not the case in air rb. In air rb if your dive and climb speed aren't at the upper echelon of what you're facing or you don't have an amazing defensive armament you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
And that's what disgusts me.
So many things need to be fixed for the more simulator crowd to find enjoyment in this game, so many things from map objectives to player dynamics, to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ third person radar, to how planes render at distance, to win conditions that allow people to ♥♥♥♥ off the side of the map or hide over their airfield.
But Gaijin will never fix it.
Fixing airplanes, their flagship product, will never be a priority. The only reason to add anything to the airplane trees is to bring in money. First it was Japan way back in the day, and they had plenty of aircraft, then Italy and we were still missing planes from the primary nations, then France and we were still missing planes from their primary nations AND Italy (as of this review we are still waiting on the Reggiane line, some of the most important fighters of Italy's WWII lineup), but most importantly; They don't care.
No, while they've been working on these over the last 6 years rather than fleshing out fully every tree with well made damage models (something that is horribly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ at the moment), flight models (many aircraft still have retarded drag physics) and every plane ever made we've gotten tanks. Their cash cow. Tanks is the biggest ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke I've ever seen. Miles and miles and miles ahead of World of Tanks I will give them that, but the balancing is so absolutely abhorrent that everything past tier 3 is guaranteed to send me to the doctor for heart problems later in life. You will not play the tanks you find cool or interesting rather you will be coralled into playing Fotm ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that everyone else is playing. And every nation has one, one vehicle that is better than the rest at a time and every time someone will cry about it, but they're all equally ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
But they didn't stop there. No, for the last two years ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BOATS has been in development, and after playing some, I can safely say: ♥♥♥♥ boats and ♥♥♥♥ gaijin. I never played WoWs, so I can't comment on whether one or the other is better, but what I can say is this: ♥♥♥♥ boats and ♥♥♥♥ gaijin. It is the most braindead ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid gameplay imaginable. In tanks I will give you that at the very least a fair amount of situational awareness, understanding of what you will be facing at your br, and map knowledge can change how a battle goes regardless of your vehicle. But in boats none of that matters. Only playing the most overpowered at it's br boat matters. At the time of this review low tier boats are dominated by Germany with America taking up the rear with the 80ft Nasty.
And mind you, all of this is going on, while PLANES ARE STILL MISSING CONTENT.
You have almost ALL of America's, Germany's, Russia's, Japan's, and France's armed forces but you are still missing ALL OF THE REGGIANE LINE, and multiple early jet and late prop designs.
Notice how I didn't mention Italy in the ground forces? Well get this. They announced the Italian tree, with premium tanks to get in to Italian groundforces beta, WITHOUT THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TANKS. They added the WHOLE of France and their ground tree BEFORE the Italian tanks were introduced.

There is currently a paid for british boat beta in the game and next we will have the Italian tank beta.

Helicopters. The most ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ premium scam in game. They're not even good, their flightmodels are half baked, their amor models are non-existant, their damage models are WORSE than most aircrafts. And yet, they are something you have to either have a tier 6 tank or tier 5 aircraft OR pay to have access to. Hope you enjoy ATGM's flying from across the map.

God
Tl;dr I spent a fair chunk of my life playing this game, from the math roughly a quarter. And I feel nothing but contempt for this company and anyone who supports them. This game is horribly flawed in so many ways. Like an abusive ex or something like that, I wouldn't know, I make game reviews for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ warthunder. I've never had a girlfriend.

Vanquish is a game that I find hard to put in to words how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid it is but I'm going to try anway.
Vanquish is what feels like a Japanese attempt at an American badass self insert sort of game meant for the braindead American audiences of the mid 2000s, and it does a great job at that. With a deceptively difficult and incredibly fun game mechanic, your exo-suit thing, that the entirety of the game is based off of you would think that it could have a lot going for it. Well ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it doesn't. Instead you get a game full to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ brim with the absolute worst oneliners, full of unlikeable characters (except ivanova she's my waifu ♥♥♥♥ off), full of unintuitive FRIENDLY AI that get in your way, full of loading screens, FULL OF ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ LOADING SCREENS, a CONSTANT need to take player control away and instead replace it with pre-rendered cutscenes and these weird psuedo cutscene in game things that come right AFTER the cutscene EVERY TIME, a plot that I completely forgot until HIllary Clinton kills herself (?!?!?!?!?!), and and ending that alludes to a sequel that never happens. The game is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess. I am seriously having a hard time putting this together but let me divulge some more.
The combat, it's stunted it's weird, every single map is split up into arenas, which do actually help with the core mechanic of your meme suit but the splitting of them up so often with terrible cutscenes is what kills it. It's repetetive and repulsive. I REALLY hope you enjoy our next section of the map, this time instead of a weird square the map has a huge choke point that you have to navigate so that you can get to the next map, a square! Oh don't forget your cutscene on the way out!
The story, like the characters, is trash. I can hardly remember it. I said previously Hillary Clinton kills herself so that's cool, there's some bad guy who is bald and Russian, and the darpa guy saves the day. Really subverts expectations. Your companion throughout the whole game is some big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mean bastard who hates everything and during the last few minutes of being with him goes from holding you at gunpoint, to killing a bunch of your friendly soldiers, to trying to kill all of Russia, to trying to kill all of YOU, to killing your friendly soldiers and helping you, to killing himself. It's the most shoehorned character development I've experienced since that time I watched Family Guy and Brian committed the Holocaust.
Oh and your guy smokes at the most inopportune moments. Did I mention the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ one liners? Because they do. not. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. stop. It's the most abbrasive useless and bland line delivery every time he speaks. Even at the end it's like the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ suit is more than just an ability enhancing device and makes his brain move at mach 10 as well.

So why do I recommend this game. 2 reasons.
I want to fuggle (♥♥♥♥ snuggle) Ivanova
And the gameplay is so blindingly fun. I wish, I wish I wish I wish, that if this game ever gets a sequel I can get some Calladooty 4 style cheatcodes for beating the game or some ♥♥♥♥ so I can turn off the stamina cap and let me have my guns fully upgraded from the getgo.
The way the suit works is you have a stamina bar that allows you to slide around the map at the speed of sound and when you zoom in to fire while doing so your character slows down time. This is actually quite important because some of these enemies are fast as ♥♥♥♥ as well. The time mechanic is often used in conjunction with something like the stun grenade or life gun because both of those cause a stun fram on enemies hit by them, thus letting you hit weak points with ease.
The way the suit works as well with the stamina bar is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pants on the head retarded. Not only is the stamina bar gimped for some reason, but the melee tied to suit function completely drains it. Let me give you a scenario: you have a group of enemies, you feel like being the all American badass you are, you activate your boosters slam on up to them and kick the first ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the face. What do you do next? A. Bean the guy next to him with a chain melee. B. Whip out the shotgun and comit a reverse Cobain or C. Stun grenade the floor and do both of the above.
Times up, and the correct answer is D. Drain all of your stamina and be reduced to a waddling state where you are an easy kill.
Yes. You heard me right. Your best move, the melee finishing kill is completely worthless outside of putting the icing on the cake against bosses. If you try to use it in regular gameplay it completely ♥♥♥♥♥ you.
So what else is there then? The guns, all of them are usable but throughout my playthrough I found not a single instance to not use the default AR at all times, supplemented by a WAY over upgraded AP pistol and then whatever the third was I switched depending on what was available. The AR is a good, solid choice because you will never ever run out of ammo. The AP pistol is incredible because it doubles as the sniper rifle without a restrictive filter over the game and when upgraded absolutely nukes enemy healthbars in a few shots. Seriously. It's insane. I experimented with different guns in the third slot and from what I could tell the rocket launcher was okay but not the best against bosses, the lock-on laser thing couldn't be used indoors, the life gun was nice because of the aoe stun it put out and the two machineguns are kinda interchangable.

So. Tl;dr
Game is fun as ♥♥♥♥, VERY short, the small levels are a little crowded at times but the enemies never felt too strong even on a more difficult setting. I don't see a /lot/ of replayability but I don't think that it's not going on the "annual replay list" so thats a plus. If you keep your phone nearby the cutscenes don't even matter and honestly for how much ♥♥♥♥ I give it, the dialouge is almost hilarious due to the complete and total lack of self awareness the writers game the characters.
My advice, hold space, keep rolling, and upgrade the ap pistol.

I'll say this I bought the game a long ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time ago. The experiences I've had in this game are unparalleled by any other multiplayer game sans something like gmod or ARMA III exile. It ♥♥♥♥♥ on you relentlessly. It will ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the ass if your IQ hovers around room temperature. I love the game to death, but I will say this. After 5 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ years of being in development this game DOES NOT deserve to be at 34$. No one in their right mind should pay 34$ for Dayz and if you are a new player looking for a survival game I highly recommend finding this code for cheap elsewhere, trading for a copy, of jerking off your friend for a favor.

tldr don't pay full price, it's a good game, and bring friends. You'll need them.

Honestly a wonderful little game
My only complaints are that at times the soundtrack is not fitting in the least and the game's graphical fidelity feels out of place with what it is.
Other than that it's cute, short, and simple. Well worth the 2.99 and while you wont be getting your dollar per hour out of it it's well worth it.
The ending is what really sold me.
