I paid $5 for this game.

it's pretty, it's fast, it feels fair, but it's buggy and the weapons are kinda jank.

This scratches the Descent itch for multiplayer shooters, a little like Sublevel Zero with PVP and shipbuilding via blocks like Avorion or Istrolid.

The shipbuilding is.... advanced and keyboard shortcut heavy. It's hard to break something that's already put together, and you can tweak and tinker on the blueprints fairly easily (some of the guns that are available don't seem to work, or their mechanics aren't documented yet), but creating something that will actually fly is a difficult and iterative process with lots of trial and error. I personally liked it, but it's kind of a kerbal approach to building stuff.

The shooty parts are fast and pretty, they feel intuitive and fair, but you pretty quickly learn that the only good guns are the vulkan and the shotgun and the rockets. Not being able to match DPS at range with your opponents means they can pick at you until you're critical and someone else can finish you off. (Or you can crash)

Circle-strafing is mean in 3 axes, and the mouse controls feel firm and responsive. I never felt like it was unfair when I lost or was outgunned. The spawner is its own entity that you can move around the map and choose where you start. This also means you can spawncamp, but spawncampers hang out in one area and mobility is the best weapon in the game.

The flying is nice. I feel like "the rules" come through very clearly in the first shake of the controls. You're flying a heavy metal object in space, it doesn't corner on a dime and it doesn't have infinite boost. With that said, it's so nice to fly up in a nice aerodynamic 🎗and have it feel juuuuust right.

Pretty good $5.

Completely adorable.

Universal FPS mechanics handled completely nonviolently and wholesomely.

A great, low-pressure intro to FPS gaming.

Space ninjas with guns.

Kill literally hundreds of enemies by yourself.

Acrobatic ninja parkour with flying dropkicks and wire-fu style antics.

Slice and dice your way through thousands of clone marines.

There's no downside except the microtransactions make it a pain in the butt to upgrade, and some kid with $500 is going to take all the good stuff before you can if you're playing online.

This game is broken.

I can play through the tutorial, get to the first mission's city (all the cities all over the world are the same, except for certain larger ones. check my timeline)

The mission V goes crazy, but the mission never triggers and the sound cuts out. I blasted my way to a game-over, but found out that he included a bunch of funny messages about not killing people and not blasting things.

Great, that he's thought of what to say when someone goes on a rampage 20+ times in a row, but this game isn't really that compelling if I can't even fight aliens in the very limited procgen cityscape provided.

Edit: 11/20/17 Still broken. See my screenshots for more bugs / warts on this game.

I close the game out of frustration and immediately start considering alternative strategies. The global chat running in the background is a great source of ideas. No two engagements run the same. It's fast to pick up and play, with a variety of challenges in single and multiplayer. Even on easy mode it's tough, but it's very satisfying to find a strategy that panics the AI.

It's a meta FPS.

You design overpowered weapons based on quakelike FPS tropes, then fight other peoples' best attempt to make "the best gun ever".

Grenade rushes, melee attacks, little kids whining about how you're not being fair and your weapons are overpowered, it's great. Everything's OP, everything's unbalanced, and you feel like a total badass for every kill. It takes some reflexes to survive long enough to kill something.
