Highly recommended. The story, the gameplay, the soundtrack, the divergent storytelling based on choices, it's all top notch. While it may not have reinvented the wheel on anything, what it did do was add a level of polish to existing ideas to the point its hard to call it anything but impressive.

Cookie Clicker, but with adult content. Sadly that content is also very lacking. In a little over 2 hours you can see and do all of the content. Mind you, the content I'm talking about is going through 10 "live streams" and upgrading the ads over and over. Also see all 10 FapGram posts, which are just 10 still images that you can "like". Chat is just the same comments over and over again. Then the worst thing about it is all of the "live streams" are the same few couple second animations and voice over on loop for however long it takes you to finish the stream.

It's ultimately boring and not a good H game.

STEAM DECK REVIEW

This game runs great on deck, no visual or audio issues. Controls work great, but there does seem to be an issue where for dialog randomly up or down. Because of this I would just use the touchscreen for dialog choice.

Regarding the game itself, it’s a very charming take on the black and white detective movies of the past. You could say that the story and dialog is an old overused trope, but clucking hell do they have some fantastic voice acting. The gameplay is simple, it’s just a mix of graphic novel with point and click elements. The puzzles are not terribly complicated, but there will be moments that you’ll feel lost. It’s usually because you’ll need to talk to someone you didn’t realize you’d need to.

Overall I suggest this one. It’s a fun and endearing take on some old ideas.

I was gifted this game by a friend for Christmas. Figured I’d give it a shot. After the initial hour of this game, I spent the majority of 3 days in a row to finish it. That’s how much it hooked me. So here is my review of 40 hours of play time, finishing the main story, and entirely playing on the Steam Deck.

The visuals are pretty good for a top down point and click game. Everything has a hand painted oil painting style to it. Characters are 3D models, but it still fits the atmosphere of the game. Not much more to say here.

The sound design and music is great. The music hits those sad rock tones, and the synth when you do the church side quest is awesome.

The gameplay with a controller is serviceable. Like I mentioned, played entirely on the Steam Deck. I would say that this worked great for the most part, but there are definitely some frustrating aspects of using a controller with this game. Button remapping in game would be a great addition. Holding LB shows all interactables, but walking around and holding LB for the majority of a few hour play session sucks. I could change this with Steam Input, but I didn’t bother.

The story. Oh boy, the story. After 40 hours, I feel like I barley scratched the surface of the content. The different voices reflecting the traits and levels you have them at is such an interesting idea. I loved the story and really look forward to playing again down the road. Definitely need a break from the bleakness of the story, for now.

Conclusion. It’s a fantastic game that I recommend. Just prepare yourself for some rough adult topics. Politics, race, drug use, and sexual abuse.

New World is an interesting MMO. There is a list of pros and cons I can rattle off, but I think the thing I will focus on is that the devs apparently do care about making a good game and not focused on bleeding money from it's users. That seems to be the thing everyone was afraid of at launch. In the year since release they have patched just about everything that people had issues with, while making new content. That, in my book, means a lot. I'm happy to see where this game goes.

Early Access Review
Spawned in. Collected wood and rocks. Made weapons. Killed things to sustain myself. Made a home. Troll spawned and killed me and the home. Setup new home while shaking my fist at the sky.

20 hours later I have a server made for friends to join and have expanded said home into basically a town. This game rocks.

I have been following this project for the last decade. I thought I would never see it fully fleshed out, honestly. I remained hopeful, but I also was not going to purchase it until after it was finished. Now that long wait is over, and the big question to answer is, was it worth the wait and money?

Yes. An overwhelming yes, Black Mesa was worth the wait and money. This is one of the best remakes/HD updates I've played, and the crazy part is this team is not connected to Valve. This is a game made of dedicated fans. Everything about it feels polished. The story wasn't changed, but little things have been added. The reworks to the environment are HUGELY appreciated. Zen went from my second least favorite area (only topped by surfacing for the first time to meet the helicopter) to my favorite in one play-through.

I would like to thank everyone involved. This really brought back memories, and at the same time making new ones. My kids watched over my shoulder the whole time, and they loved it. Thank you, Crowbar Collective.
