awesome game
believe me, that play time is not even close to accurate, but i don't want anyone figuring out that i'm old enough to remember DOS, so i won't give any more details than that

art, music, narration, gameplay are all 11/10
story is 10/10

i've run through it several times and it's still charming

i flew at mach speed, punched Cell in his smug perfect face, launched him across the field, and blasted him with a final flash

if any of that sentence made sense or sounded like fun you should get this

if you've gotten this far you probably already know all about this game. it's a well designed skinnerbox filled with anime waifu idols

if you understood that sentence you probably already have every character unlocked

if you're confused by all of this, watch some gameplay and make up your mind. i've never played vampire survivors so i can't make the comparison, but just know, i have way more hours in this game than it says on my profile (and that's the best endorsement i can make)

good writing, story and characters both
gameplay is actually a major part of the story as well, not just on the sidelines

combat is dauntingly complicated at first, but easy to wrap your head around once you've done it a few times

the crafting is where this game shines. it is engrossing and intricate. once you understand how it really works you will spend hours planning out the perfect craft to make each new piece of gear

if i were a true gamer i would play dwarf fortress. the sweatiest of colony simulators
but me? i like my action fast, and easy to understand, and with a 20% likelihood of my colonists starting a fist fight with one another while being bombarded with incendiary explosives from a mechanical wood louse

enter Rimworld, with all of the sex, drugs, and rock n roll my sigma grindset requires
money? don't need it; i have corn
drugs? don't need them; i have money
corn? don't need any, i have [a procedurally generated sculpture depicting one of my colonists getting murdered by a ♥♥♥♥♥ out monkey while 300 buffalos dance in a representation of my lead researcher's ennui]
and i just sold it for a bunch of money

the combat is frustrating and at any moment your colonists will rush into the fray because of their compulsive need to sweep up the bandit souffle you just made with a squad of minigun troopers. you can have the most well eqipped squad running defense and it will never be as effective as trapping the enemy in a room with the burning corpses of their fallen comrades... meanwhile your town's mayor is digging up corpses because she's upset that someone else has a nicer bedroom and a better seat at the dinner table

if all of this sounds unhinged and hard to follow, don't worry; i haven't even touched on the man made horrors beyond your comprehension that get top of all time on the subreddit. after you master the basics you too will be frantically checking your resources to decide the cost/benefit of forced labor vs making someone permanently comatose but broadcasting their drug induced euphoria to everyone who passes by

i give it the number of drugs i've pushed on rival factions/the number of people i've given stockholm syndrome

if the answer to all of these is yes then this is the game for you.

the gameplay and combat loop are pretty fun, you'll occasionally run into game breaking glitches, but you'll eventually realize the hardest enemy in the game is not the wild dogs, or the bandits, or the tentacles, or the incredibly amorous r[consent was not involved]pe demon. the hardest enemy is the constant supply of cryptic "clues" around the island

there's a statue next to a door that blocks off 90% of the map? hope you took a correspondence in lore so you can figure out which trash item it needs. hope you didn't throw anything away
there's a doorway that glows with magic and you have to open it so you can secure a new location to fit all your new 'uncles' in? well call me leather daddies R us because this ain't free, and if you screw up the skill check, i will be whipping you
you arrive at a log cabin with nothing to interact with but it won't clear? hope you recruited the right people and didn't kick any of them out to make room for your harem of geisha spider vampires. and if you did bring the right person along i hope you're ready to get bummed... in

is a good game with a little bit of something for the whole family
