Played the hell out of it on Vita. Got it on PC for a few bucks but I was perhaps not as motivated as I once thought to go through it a 2nd time. Its a very long grind. Very fun your first time through though!

Amazing free upgrade for anyone who owned the original Doom. Very much worth $10 if not.

Another good remaster of a Build engine title. I am a newcomer, so without nostalgia I am having SOME fun, but there's definitely aspects that have aged a lot. Great soundtrack though. I've actually listened to it many times before. This game was known for having somewhat of an open world, although still stage based, with a lot of backtracking when you acquire abilities that find purposes in old areas. I do wish they offered an option for your door keys to remain when revisiting old areas. It just doesn't make much sense to have to find the keys all over again.

I only ever played a tiny bit of Blood 2 on a Pentium 2 machine when it launched. It was nice to see the original. I see why people consider it one of the best that used the Duke Nukem engine. I beat 2 of the episodes out of 5. Without nostalgia, I wasn't able to maintain interest until the end, but I had some fun and now I know why its considered a classic.

If you're a fan, you cant go wrong with this version. I hear it had a rough launch but they patched it a lot and I never encountered any bugs.

This game is fantastic and I've had it installed for years despite only playing a few hours. I just wanna bookmark this review to say the amazing https://steamproxy.com/id/Noves/ gifted me this, I recall. I swear I will reboot this and properly play it someday.

Good for Nvidia users. Shame we dont have native scaling and framegen support at a driver level like AMD does.

Constant microstuttering. Everyone acts like this is acceptable. Or they tell you to use SpecialK to run the entire game through an improved borderless window. That only solves some of it and has side effects of it's own, like needing to reboot my pc even after closing the game or else all Windows behavior is like 15fps. I cant even find a process thats stuck in the background.

Not to mention, I was never able to get reshade to work in combination, despite following a guide of renaming dll files. It would lead to a black screen freeze at new game screen and probably elsewhere. The pixels are horrific and scaled improperly. You absolutely need reshade to make this game look tolerable. You'll also need other mods to make the font look decent.

This entire port is garbage and people need to gain some standards and self respect before suggesting such games.

May 5th 2024:

The Sonytomatons have been driven back, but they WILL return again. Stay vigilant, soldiers. Democracy prevails!

May 3rd 2024:

Game now changed the terms and requires everyone to adopt Sony accounts. This should be illegal. Even if not, very scummy to potentially rob back the game access from players like this who knows better than to trust Sony with their data, after they've been hacked twice. I literally had to get credit cards replaced because of Sony

April 2024 update:

Real solid 4 player coop action. Extremely authentic follow up to the original game from a decade ago, but with a 3rd person perspective. Makes me think Risk of Rain 2 vs Risk of Rain 1. Most major bugs are fixed but its not perfect yet. Fairly quick dev progress with new content drops.

Please just add DLSS or FSR 2.0. The image quality here is horrible.

Original review:

It's a bumpy ride right now with 300k active players on PC but let's hope it has a long life like HD1 had, but with tons more effort on the expansions.

By no means is it a more complete product than Vermintide 2 is. It's an incredibly similar game to it, but with more guns and more enemies with guns, but it's really missing the extra modes that Verm 2 has.

It's not a very well optimized game. It definitely chugs. I run on low to medium settings just to get all the help I can get even on a 3070ti at 1440p. A lot of the fancy graphics effects actually dont look all that good. I prefer to disable quite a few.

The soundtrack is killer but everyone knows that.

Perhaps my biggest gripe of all is there is no scoreboard. No indication of what your teammates did. Apparently they removed this because players would talk smack at each other. Absolutely disgraceful move by a nanny dev. Return it immediately. You can easily run a mod that has a damn near perfect and detailed scoreboard feature, but of course how do you know which other players also run that mod and see what you see?

I highly suggest a ModPack by Mez on the guides in Steam. Tons of nice and informative additions.

Once your character hits lvl30 it honestly is not very compelling to play anymore unless you want to respec for new builds. Just make another character to experience their exclusive weapons. Not much else to really do, currently. Hope the game keeps expanding.

The game tries to have bit more of a campaign narrative, whereas Verm games didnt have much of one. Its nice.

I feel like the characters in Verm were more interesting. The characters in Darktide are just class templates but they each have like 3 voice pitches, (maybe they're all original lines entirely), but you just never really love these characters personally.

Overall a good buy for $25
