extremely addicting and chill but when the play area becomes too big and the letters too tiny, it hurts my eyes. still, it's an easy recommend

7/10
charming and cozy, the restaurant management is chill and fun~

as for dungeoning...
dying causes you to drop every valuable you just worked for, making it like you just completely wasted your time. if you only dropped like half or a fraction of each stack that would feel much less frustrating imo.

combat doesn't feel that great and enemies feel way too tanky, even the most basic enemies. i like for them to have slightly better telegraphs as well

weapons/gearing systems are quite confusing and don't feel rewarding. 13 hours in and i haven't touched the brewery, partially bc i'm not sure what it does, and partially because i haven't found a piece of gear i'd like to do more with.

ALSO: PLEASE LET US SELL OUR UNUSED GEAR or something, it feels so bad to just throw it away.

could absolutely use more in the way of up-front tutorials rather than receiving letters in the mail telling us about systems we already probably discovered by that point.

overall, i do keep alt-f4 quitting the game when i die with a full inventory but the game is still fun enough to keep reopening a few hours later.

beautiful visuals and music, but the controls (turning and jumping) feel sluggish and not so good

Interesting story, charming characters, good soundtrack, beautiful art style, and I love the connection to Japanese folklore. But I can't recommend this solely based on the combat system, which gets EXTREMELY dull and repetitive after a while. I really want to like this game based on all of its good qualities, but it really becomes a grind, and the undead enemies in chapter 4 are overpowered and extremely frustrating to take down due to their huge health bars, unblockable attacks that you cannot dodge, and their HIGH dodge chance. It takes forever to whittle them down and I'm just not sure that it's worth it.

They tried. Gold star for effort. It just doesn't cut it, though.

Edit: WOW, the chapter 4 enemies HEAL, too. Wowwwwwwww. Yeah. I'm sorry, do not pick this title up unless you like repetition in combat, have money to throw away and nothing better to do with your time. And even then, I wouldn't pick this game up for full price. Chapter 4 is impossibly, artificially difficult. It's really pointless.

Edit2: It's literally regenning its health faster and on more turns than I can land counterattacks on it to damage it. Which seems to be the only way to tackle it as far as I can tell at this point. And you have to fight like 5 of them, I believe.

Edit3: Alt+F4ing the game and uninstalling. If after 100 turns I cannot even get the enemy to under 1/3 health, it's just completely and utterly not worth it. Do not touch this game, do not even look at it. Just, no. Try the demo, get frustrated by the combat, and spend your money elsewhere. All of the enjoyable aspects of this game can be yours by watching a Let's Play.

Very cute. Pick this up for sure if you like shopkeeper games; buy for low and sell for up to 250%+ of that, mwahaha

Edit: Alright, so I finished it, and it's much more interesting toward the end. The game gets off to an extremely slow start, but find your way around, get off the beach areas, and endure 'til later, and your experience will greatly improve. There's a lot more to see once you're off the beach. I wouldn't pay full price for this game, but if exploring games are your thing, you could give this a try.

---------------------------

One hour into the game:
I guess it's pretty, if desolate, and the narrator has some poetic lines (once in a while, when you find where you're supposed to go), but the majority of my experience so far as been... frankly, uncomfortable. I find myself wishing that you could move faster instead of walking so painfully slowly, and it's extremely off-putting that you can't jump or climb. At all. At this point I feel like I'd jump for joy if I could just get to the top of this mountain. If you get lost easily like me, it's going to be difficult in the beginning. There's a lot of backtracking, and I'm not quite sure where to go, ever. The narrator is completely unhelpful when you're trying to figure out where to go next, and this self-guided tour is starting to feel pretty oppressive. I find myself desperately wanting to leave this abandoned beach.

First-person exploration games are probably not for me, but if they're your cup of tea, it might be worthwhile to try this. If you're got an eye for detail and enjoy analyzing your environment to help supplement/piece together a storyline, maybe this is for you. As for me, I think I need more direction and structure in my games...
