It has been 70+ hours and I just got to Kuttenburg. An outstanding sequel that builds up and refines the mechanics of the first game. Feel super complete so far and very immersive. I'm going to go back into the woods to ♥♥♥♥ off for a few days now.

Damn, gonna be honest. I really really like this game. Some of the most fun I've had. I hope you can use this negative review to do something, or I won't be able to continue playing. :c

Edit: Ayyy, we did it! This game is beautiful in so many ways.

This feels like a fever dream come true. I'm having such a good time with it. I love how 'manual' it all feels. In my garage right now swapping parts around, tossing my wheels around like a mechanic, loading up for a trip to hell while it's raining out. Absolutely sublime. I love you.

I like how building and surviving go hand-in-hand here. You need to take into account the structure to support its weight, how well it can handle smoke, rain/water, and whatever else. Resource gathering feels interesting and not completely. If I want to gather a lot of logs from a nearby forest, or perhaps specific ore and other items, I can build a path and load up a cart with the goods. Though, you better hope the road was built well and doesn't make it hard to lug around a lot of weight!

Exploring feels like a quest all its own. Whether by land or sea, things can go south real quick with monsters and environmental hazards! Working the sails on your boat is fun as heck.

The devs know how to make a lot of the systems work together in a fun way while avoiding the edge where it feels like tedious work(imo, but I haven't wanted to go past the Swamp tier of progression). Masterfully done so far, and Valheim holds its own among the plethora of survival-builder - both fully released and early access. Can't wait for the updates!

P.S. I love knocking down trees into other trees! It's so satisfying!

The level of immersion here just hits me so right. I have to prepare for what I want to do, sleep, hunger, what I'm wearing, but it doesn't feel overbearing. I'll just start prepping for a hunt and stay out there for hours exploring the forest and making sure I don't get too lost. If I want my Henry to be a mercenary of some sort, but still able to walk amongst the nobility, I can dress for that! There are so many options in gear that can use for both roleplay and combat reasons.

Combat feels so crisp AFTER you train for a good bit/get stat experience. Initially it's a bit obtuse and hard to understand. That alongside not understanding that Henry himself doesn't know how to use a sword can be a bit frustrating.

However, after you understand how the combat works, it flows so well! I cannot go back to another first-person melee game without feeling somewhat disappointed that it doesn't feel as satisfying as this! You're prepping your arms to block their swing, then move yourself and your swing in a direction that he'll have trouble defending from. All this while making sure you're maintaining the space between you two. When I am a bit out of range from them, then I move in while making my strike, timing it all together feels so rewarding~ I'll seek out bandit and cuman camps just to fight them.

The perks all feel like they accomplish a good amount of a different playstyles/flavors well! The drinking perk provides very few 'useful' perks, but they can work depending on a type of Henry or playstyle you're working with.

There are great 'class-type' perks in Main Level as well(like Brute : +2 Strength bonus, but a -1 penalty on Charisma and Speech). If combat is a bit too much, or you want to have a god-like Henry, there are perks like Blood Rush and Headcracker ! Not a fan of crowds? Against All Odds ! Is your armor too loud? Stuffing from the Maintenance tree. Overall, the perks add cool mechanics and effects to your gameplay beyond just simple stat/percentage increases(of which there are a couple, which are fine as options)!

If you loved the immersion and have have a bit of experience with the combat, I highly recommend Hardcore mode! You'll start off choosing 2 negative perks(you can choose all 9 if you're going for that achievement and/or love suffering), lose your current map marker, food matters more, and a lot of KCD's systems start to matter more! I have to make sure I'm looking at my map correctly, keep mental track of landmarks, figure out my direction based on the sun(or looking at the compass reeeeeeeeaaalll closely). As there is no auto-save beside drinking Saviour Schnapps, save/exit, and sleeping in a saveable bed/area), preparing matters more, so I'm creating and stocking up on potions more, prepping food, really making sure my gear and everything is taken care of.

A con for me(mostly with combat): I do have a gripe about combat with multiple combatants. I do understand it's supposed to be difficult in that situation, but the camera focusing feels very confusing when working with multiple targets. My camera feels too stiff when I'm trying to have Henry target someone in a group - and I feel that I have to target them or else Henry won't assume a combat ready stance with them.. but then I end up targeting the wrong person.

A suggestion, maybe allow for a consistent focus-target while being able to "pan" the camera slightly to the left/right to see the other unfocused-target. Depending on how much pan in a certain direction, TAB key would target next based on how close to center of camera.

I wanna write more, there's so much I love about this game, but I kinda just wanna keep playing it. I'm excited for a sequel! Don't forget to bet on the Rattay tourney :P

The community of players is fantastic, and the developers seem to truly believe in 'fashion is end game', compared to other MMOs. A massive plus in my eyes. I'm too lazy to write more.

I didn't think I would like this game and the only reason I tried it was because my friend begged that I try out the first mission at the very least. I don't know why I didn't play this game earlier but I was hooked the second I hit start. Everything about this game just works out so well! Especially the music!

An amazing send off to a beloved series. The combat(those hitboxes unnf), multiplayer, lore, and PvE in this game is just too good. Looking forward to starting over again on NG+ after I finish hosting these fight clubs :)
