It's been so long since we've had a good feature rich RPG like this with so many choices and customization. You can make hybrid classes or select feats on existing classes to give them any spells or weapons you want and the character creator lets you go crazy with any skin or hair colors you want with demon eyes or vampire tones for any race, I love it!

I'm overwhelmed with joy to see newer games bringing complex RPG elements back which felt quite lacking in other recent games. The best part about this game is that it's only $60 with no microtransactions and it's completely DRM free and the multiplayer is optional, you can play offline if you don't want to deal with any server problems and you don't even need an account.

The dialogue system and companions have so many impactful choices, I decided to risk it all for an "evil romance" option that caused half my party to leave me for good reason. This game uses the classic 5e D&D turn based system for combat which might turn some people off but the characters and voice acting and writing are all so incredibly well done and the music is the best I've heard since Skyrim, I truly wanted to stay in the character screen a little longer just to hear "Down by the River" one more time.

I also really loved all the dark themes in the game, you can choose a "Dark Urge" backstory which changes up the main story, your character will often have dark thoughts which you can choose to act on or try to fight and things might happen out of your control. I also really loved how customizable your companions are, you can change all their classes in case you really like a certain character but don't like what class they are.

My only negative is the way multiplayer works, once someone creates a character in your save you're stuck with that character forever, I hope they come up with a way to delete or store custom characters in a bank. [EDIT] Larian listened to the feedback and fixed this in a patch.

This game is truly amazing, it feels like it took the torch back from Dragon Age after it succeeded the original Baldur's Gate all those years ago. This is the best RPG I've played in over a decade and it truly deserves its game of the year status. All the artists, writers, voice actors, music composers and rest of the developers should be proud of themselves for creating this work of art.
