Early Access Review
Really wish there was a "Pending" option for reviews but for now I will tentatively recommend. To give the TL;DR up front: Good start with interesting designs and love the N64 look. Needs more polish and better balancing, especially for single player.

Ok, more in depth.

I am not gonna beat around the bush and say that the character creator is very much furry bait. But it isn't to an extreme where it should put non-furs off. At least in my opinion. Plus you don't need to max out the sliders and can have a modest but still good looking character.

Gameplay is also simple but it is enjoyable. Plus with the parry system, the ability to learn skills through scrolls, and the enchanting system there is potential to go far more, especially with a little more polish to the game down the road. That being said I have a gripe with the dungeons in solo mode. The first dungeon is easy enough at the start but the higher levels of it plus the second dungeon is where the difficult gets rather ridiculous. And I feel it comes down to you either being too weak or too powerful depending on the level difference between you and the enemies. There is also the fact that enemies seems to sometimes chase you while they wind up attacks making playing range super difficult solo. Really feel there needs to be a look at balance for solo play as it feels far to geared towards playing with others even when playing alone.

Also please give us a pause function in single player. This isn't Dark Souls where you are considered always online even when you are not.

While very short being only one chapter I have hopes for the rest of the game and the story. Can't wait for chapter 2 and more!

I have yet to beat this game but I would certainly highly recommend it. Granted it is a little jank but in a adorable and admirable way. Why am I posting a review so soon though when I have barely scratched the surface? Well it is cause I just visited a planet I shall not name and I wanted to say this to the Devs.

@#$! YOU!

You knew what you were doing when you put that thing there! You are evil, horrible jerks just for that thing alone!

....also keep up the good work.

I've played this game all the way through and outside of some glaring bugs and technical issues this game has been the best D&D game I have ever played. All the characters felt like they were being role played by a D&D group (with maybe some people not directly play voicing the NPCs), the story for the campaign was fitting, and the big draw for me was the gameplay itself cause it was pretty much spot on.

Past D&D titles like Neverwinter Knights never really felt like a D&D game mechanically especially where combat was concerned cause the AI generally had one strategy and that was usually to rush at you and your party. To me live combat just doesn't really work for a D&D game unless one can program AI with more than swarm tactics. Making things turn based was the best way to go. Reminded me of Divinity Original Sin 2 in a good way cept improved upon in aspects like with better means to handle the combat environment.

That being said the game definitely doesn't feel polished yet. Small bugs crop up here and there. Some critters feel like they are cheating a little with bonus actions (I could be wrong, though). Animations can sometimes be a little wonky. And also subtitles don't always match with what is being said. I also wish there was all the base classes and a couple less common races but that might be due to both mechanical limitations and also license limitations so I'll wait for future updates there.

Still a rough diamond is still a diamond. Just smooth out the edges and you got a beautiful gem. And the devs do come off as those who are working on doing just that. I want to see more from this game and from these devs like a sequel campaign or even one-shot like ones added in the future.

If you are a fan of D&D please give this game a shot. It is totally worth your time.

Now I am still early into the game story wise but so far this game has been really fun. I do have my minor ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like how warp sometimes puts me rather too close to stations at times despite the game telling me constantly early on I don't have to manually exit warp (has only started doing so after my first jump) and couple times distress beacons have popped up but no distress in sight. But those are minor complaints. Story is nothing to write home about (so far) but still is intriguing enough for me to want to see it through to the end. My only real beef is not being able to recolour my ship. I want to fly around in a gaudy gold space ship, damn it! XP

I will say like all games this game isn't gonna be for everyone. When it comes to the game you can't come in with the mindset that you will be piloting the millennium falcon or something like that. You are piloting a big naval ship in space. Combat is a bit slow compared to other space games but still very rewarding. Also while I do see the game having a decently high skill ceiling the skill floor is low enough for a player like me to still be able to get through things without being destroyed every 5 seconds. Also from what I have gathered while you still need to upgrade things like shields, hull, and weapons it treats upgrading your ship more as a side grade rather than an outright upgrade which I honestly like cause I don't feel forced into just getting the bigger ships just to progress. Heck, some people seem to actively discourage such cause of loss of speed and maneuverability. It is rare for a game to go that route I feel.

The more southern US feel might be a put off for some and normally it would for me but I find here it gives the game some charm. Got a space western thing going on. Also if I get tired of the music I can just find my own to use with custom soundtracks so thank you Devs for that option too.

TL;DR - Early impressions are very good. Nice space western naval combat game with an alright story. Just wish you could paint your ship a different colour in this game.

As whimiskal the game is I certainly can't recommend as a co-op game as it has the same friendly fire and single camera problem Magicka has. The random nature of the spell unlock system is rather unfair as well if you end up unlucky with no means of changing your spells without restarting (which will put you back to the 3 starting spells anyways). Lastly the difficulty spike at the very end is just unfair and unbalanced.

Maybe the Arena mode is good but I don't care for such modes. Again, for someone like me looking for a co-op (without competitive features) experience I cannot recommend.

Starpoint Gemini 2 has been quite the time absorber for me. It is a rather well rounded space sim that succeeds in making you feel like both commander and pilot of a large space faring vessel. Granted it is a tad difficult to get into and, while helpful and rather necessary, the amount of tutorials in this game can be overwhelming. That being said once you get into it you might find your entire day gone playing this game.

I say wait for a sale but if you are familiar with games Like Elite Dangerous or other space sims then it might be worth full price to you.
