Honestly if this was not a game in the Bendy series, I would have never played it. A top down perspective item hunt across levels, where you are hunted by a monster from the first game. There really is not much more to the game than that, search the level, grab some bacon soup so you can keep up your sprint, when the monster sees you run for the nearest safe box till it walks away. Items are hidden in different spots on the randomised levels and I had to keep replaying the levels to find everything, it took a while.

As a horror game Boris just is not good, mainly the perspective removes any level of fear. The monsters are easy enough to avoid, though the variety in the monsters does create some interesting gameplay changes. The visuals are still on point and brings across the Sepia world of Bendy’s. While some levels look great from the top down perspective as the ink slowly consumes the level.

The Problem the game has is that the randomised item hunting so that you can fully complete the game can take hours, and really becomes a chore of will I find it in this level. This endless slog really turns me off the game, and the fun I had the first few runs was destroyed by the end of the game.

At the end, if this game was not a Bendy game I would have done two runs and got bored, it just is not the game for me and is a stop gap between playing the next game. You can get the game for cheap during the sales so it may be worth the try, but I would only really recommend the game for someone wanting to play all of the games in the Bendy series.

Below is a video of my gameplay it is massively cut down, it shows a better representation of the gameplay:

A short multi-ending narrative game about a company that feeds dead bodies to giant fish.

You are tasked with doing clean up jobs on the site, as you need to finish your tasks the day can end in multiple different ways. It can be a little challenging to get all of the endings, honestly I didn't really understand how I got one of them.

While the blurry pixel visuals make for a unique experience, it is the only real factor adding horror other than the story.

Nice little short game reminds of the point and click flash games I used to play.

Straight out of the gate, ‘Little Hope’ does a far better job at not only bringing the player into the mystery, but also to have a meaningful intro that connects to later points in the game. The horror monster looks absolutely amazing and the animation is unnerving. If it was not for the last few minutes of the game, I would have said Little Hope was one of the best horror games you could play.

In comparison to ‘Man of Medan’, ‘Little Hope’ is a hell of a better horror game, not only do we have actual monsters, but the game does not drag its feet in the beginning. On average you are looking at ‘Man of Medan’ taking nearly 1hr 30min for new players to reach the ship, while here we are brought into the mystery between 20 min and 30 min. The bus crashing lays out the mystery while the intro of the burning house, already adds curiosity to the similarities of the cast of characters.

‘Little Hope’ has some amazing horror monsters for modern horror games, each character has a unique monster hunting them. The animation and how they target each character was amazing, my favourite is the haunting movement of the crawler as you hear limbs pop in staggered movements. The new form of Quick Time Event really felt like it drives home the character's attacks, and distress as they fight for survival.

At the same time, the characters’ of ‘Little Hope’ are actually likeable. I felt sorry watching them get into distressing situations where you think they could die. It really was a well balanced cast, who you can see are struggling through their situation and just trying to survive.

One thing I also want to cover is the pictures giving foresight to potential death moments is done a hell of a lot better than ‘Man of Medan’. Should you know the stick with the horror moments in ‘Man of Medan’ then it’s really easy to work out death scenes, but at every point in ‘Little Hope’ it always felt up in the air which one was the right answer.

Mystery building is amazing in this game, we already have characters with similarities to the family we see in the intro. After crashing the bus they all become trapped by a dense fog, any attempt at escaping leads them back forcing them into the town. Along the way they keep seeing a little girl in the distance. Yet upon approaching her, they are dragged back in time to see more people who look eerily similar, seeing harrowing scenes of the witch trials and demonic forces ordering death. The haunting atmosphere of the fog shrouded town is only made more creepy by the monsters in the players path, apparitions which seem to be forcing the player along.

The narrative is really interesting although at times it does feel like the game drags, as later parts feel drawn out. This is mainly because exploration and walking scenes felt like stop gaps between the next time you're sent to the past. While I found the curator interesting, when you're playing through the game in one sitting his appearance really feels like it is there to add more time to the gameplay.

Honestly you have a choice, below are the spoilers of the game. You can enjoy the game without knowing the ending, and I really recommend you do.

!BEWARE! Spoilers Ahead !BEWARE!

For the sake of realism Little Hope’s ending butchers the entire game's story, to the point so much of the game really makes little sense. The entire game is the made up delusions of a man with PTSD, who was reliving the traumas of his past through a mix of stories of his town and the deaths of his family members. This creates a horror escapade of the family he is holding on to being constantly targeted by their deaths.

This has a hell of a lot of implications, first of all we have two separate states: the house burning that is shown to us as an event and can be taken as 100% real, and the rest of the game which is a mix of delusion and reality. While we can consider the shadow monster in the intro and actions taken as demonic, the rest of the game does not happen and is a fictional story of delusion. The actual events of the house are not really addressed and what happened at the beginning just happens.

This is where the game gets confusing; a lot of the game we are playing as different characters, so we are a delusion of someone interacting with other characters to the point we’re separate from the lead character and have a complete adventure, during which he is dazed imagining events. Whole scenes technically don't happen, but are places he would have had to completely put together in his mind like the sewer sequence.

The problems with characters, and the overwhelming level of delusion is one thing. The main problem is that it wasn’t real. Effectively the dream state where everything that was experienced meant nothing, the mysteries that built the game was nothing, the horror monsters were creative means of representing death and guilt. While the climax of the game is that he finally saved his family but it only is a fevered dream.

You have to remember this is not a movie, a tightly controlled experience, but 4-5hrs of a game where the player is making choices and interactions. All of which come off as a meaningless state of does he or does he not overcome his trauma. If the game was not so damn long, and the build up so damn long, and the amount of character choices was not so damn many, then slamming into the pavement would not be so damn messy.

Literally had the game ended on an ancient curse that was cast by the preacher, binding the souls to an endless reincarnation of death, I would be happy. Dragging the spirits endlessly into Little Hope, where they are slaughtered in an endless cycle, would have been an amazing ending. You could fit all the disparities in the plot, you could explain the demonic shadow behind the young girl in the house. While opening a mystery to the occult, to Little Hope as an existence, and build more into the preacher.

Spoiler Ends Here

Overall I still would say that ‘Little Hope’ is worth the playthrough, it’s just that with knowing the ending I could not gain the same investment I had with the first playthrough. The visuals and monsters were still amazing, but what made the game narratively interesting was now pointless. Unlike ‘Man of Medan’ the story was predictable and the horror hardly utilised, understanding the horror of ‘Little Hope’ compromises too much of the game.

Below is my gameplay with all of the significant endings, if you spoiled the game or just want to watch some gameplay before buying then here you go.

I really do not know where to start with this game. I brought the first three Dark Pictures games thinking they were some of the most acclaimed horror games on the market. I think I was confused and the better naming is Horror games for the AAA market. I am as annoyed with this game as when I played Outlast 2.

Man of Medan is a Horror game that feels like a movie script, the game is dialogue heavy, with a lot of Quick Time Events and some exploration. While the game does an amazing job at giving different endings, and has some visually nice horror moments, these are extremely few. To the total game time I think there is maybe 10 - 20 minutes of horror at best, most of the game is characters talking or action moments. We have a lot of unneeded build up to the point, there are better ways you could have started the game to have the cast get to the ship.

The game is heavy on Quick Time Events which are done in a strange way, while they are really easy to fail there are not too many dangerous results, I actually found it harder killing the characters than keeping them alive. Most events are tedious, either basic movements or reaction events which feel life threatening, that turns out if you fail them little changes. The use of QTE feels like it was dumped just to add gameplay moments to scripted scenes, and give players limited interaction to linear destinations.

Exploring the environments is a must for some endings as key information can be missed, and will affect late choices. Other than that the exploration is really restrictive linear paths, or small areas for character interaction. The game offers nothing really to do in these moments and it feels more like a break from the talking and animations. While you can interact with items, most are used for more lore or simply something to pick up.

Looking at the paintings to see future events was interesting, but I found overall not adding much to the game. By the time I got to the character death events, it did not offer much to the choices I would have made. It was an interesting interaction idea, just nothing really needed.

One thing I really have thought about is how shallow the characters are. There might be a lot of dialogue between characters in the game but we do not know much about them. This is really strange when the game is so dialogue heavy and is around 4 hrs to complete one playthrough. The characters feel designed for a slasher movie, we are given enough information to know who the characters are, but not enough to care if they died. This is also combined with a relationship system, which feels a little strange when I thought the player is meant to be in control of the characters choices.

When I read other reviews, a major complaint was that the game was too short. Nah nah nah nah nah the game is way too long for what it is, in the video I recorded before you even reach the boat you have around 1hr 30min of intro, over a third of the game is build up. Then on arriving at the boat we have more build up to the start of the scares. Literally if this was a movie, I would be bored out of my mind for anything to happen.

Now the story and how the horror is introduced is a great idea, the fact that the story can be grounded to the real world, and how the haunting events trigger is great. It’s just how the characters interact with it is not good, the fact that every event it basically chases or action means we don’t get the paranoia that slowly builds the narrative needed. The idea of how the horror interacts with the cast is great, the execution is really weak because of the amount of time that is wasted building up to it.

Literally had the game been more focused on an adrift crew finding a military ship and slowly falling into paranoia as they try to survive and escape would have been an amazing horror game. It’s just a shame the game was action heavy and wasted so much time on build up to really utilise the horror moments.

Maybe the game is beloved because of the multiplayer side of the game, but this review is completely taking the experience of the single player game. I just found the overall game a drag to playthrough. You could chuck so much content and just have explorers onto the boat and have a much more concise story.

Still I have two more games to go and hope the horror is really kicked up a level in the future games.

To those looking for gameplay before buying check below, I did play through the game multiple times to experience the core different endings, but I failed in wiping out all characters:

At its most simple we are looking at ‘Iron Lung’ in space. You are looking through the universe for inhabitable planets, as you peek your head out your space shuttle to repair the ship and looking into secrets along the way. You will have to repair your shuttle should it take any damage, and perhaps find clues floating in space.

While compared to ‘Iron Lung’ I do not get the claustrophobic over bearing pressure of the sea around me crushing the ship, but the curiosity of what I can see in space closing on to me in the distance, really brings a sense of dread that something is not alright. Each Planet I inspect is as barren of life as the last and you find no clues but the secrets floating within the world.

Great job on hiding the secrets, it was a real challenge finding the red disc. Although I never managed to work out how to get eaten by a black hole.

Overall it was a fun game, and worth it for the price. As a metric of purchase just think do I want ‘Iron Lung’ in Space if yes, then it’s worth the grab.

RPG Maker Visual Novel, where you explore Sybils’s Apartment, the main goal is finding all the endings. You are looking at 30 minutes if you are fast, but the endings took me a little while to work out while the mini games offered a bit of challenge. The game feels in the vein of Milk inside a Bag of Milk inside a Bag of Milk, with existential dread and neurotic nature of the character, with visuals in the same feeling. Honestly a good measure if you will like the game is you already enjoyed every one of the ‘Milk’ games.

Sybil is Haunted really does well on player interaction as there are multiple items the player can interact with that allows for further horror moments, as well as character. While the player's capacity to further interact with the scenes does offer more interactions. There is always something happening and the player is always being haunted by another ghost that is approaching.

There are two mini games that need to be completed to get the endings, they offer a bit of challenge but are not that difficult.

Overall the game was a lot of fun, some great visuals, and a really interesting idea for getting a fair bit of playtime out of such a confined space. Endings felt different from each other, with the fifth ending really pulling the existential dread together, and the hauntings through the apartment really stand out. A really nice short Visual Novel, recommend people go in blind as working out the endings was a lot of fun.#

If there is one thing about Chilla’s Art, the developer has really tried to make a varied design in horror games. ‘Missing Children’ is a Horror Detective game in which the player is looking for ‘Missing Children’. You will be travelling through multiple locations finding items, and talking to residents as you look into what happened to them. Most of the game is item trading as you open new areas.

‘Missing Children’ is an easy game, items are not hard to find, all areas you need to interact with stand out, and it is clear what items you need. Remember to listen to what all characters say as they give direction to what needs to be completed next. If you follow what people say, you will easily be able to complete the game.

Like other Chilla’s Art games the horror is fairly light, the driving scares are from the spooky atmosphere and the people you meet. I find the police to be very creepy with their smile and looming over you. Outside of that there are a few narrative moments which come off as creepy, but there are no actual horror moments. The only point I can say is truly creepy should you get the bad ending, and fail to save the children.

The major problem I have with ‘Missing Children’ is the same I have with all horror games I give bad reviews to, when the game wastes your time. The loading screens in ‘Missing Children’ are really bad, roughly 4 seconds per screen and when item collecting or just going to the next location you could be going through several. Let alone if you get lost, while playing I did not notice how bad till I looked at my recording. The only reason I am not taking it into account on my recommendation is because I was too focused on what I needed to do, and this could be the same for others who play it. Still you may be someone who will massively notice the loading screens.

Overall it was a fun Horror Puzzle game, it was easy working out where items go. You still have that spooky world charm of Chilla’s Art, where the people are more creepy than the horror moments, especially the Cop who you know is up to something shady.

To those who prefer video to words then you will find gameplay below, I cut out all loading screen so it should move a lot faster:

Point and Click game which sees a child dream of where her grandmother worked and disappeared. While the game's story focuses on the inhumane actions taken in a mental asylum, the gameplay is about hauntings and detective exploration.

For a Point and Click game it is really fun, items are easily identifiable on what can be clicked, map layout is easy to grasp depending on where you are. While the items used do not have a drastic jump in logic, though have a supernatural logic to puzzle solving.

Puzzles are fairly simple and you should not have any difficulty with them.

The story is interesting to carry the game, while it becomes apparent what has happened in the asylum early on, the game opens up on the events.

Overall a short and fun point and click game, takes me back to the games I enjoyed playing through a browser. Fun, Simple and Quick to complete.

A Horror Narrative game, you will be playing a movie star that has just undergone plastic surgery. Dealing with the post-surgery pains, while being trapped focused on her fan message board which spirals into deranged hatred, you are stuck in your apartment till you heal up. Are you alone? A vase breaking in the night, a shadowy figure ever present, the house no longer feels safe.

Really loved the game, not only is the story intriguing you are always guessing on what is actually happening and what is real. With the medicated state of the character simple house objects looked like people to me, and really placed me in the paranoia of the character. Even until the end of the game I was still questioning everything around me and what was actually real.

Honestly one of the best Narrative Horror games I’ve played, excellent job in placing me into the shoes of the characters. While exploring the environments of the flat really adds to the story. The horror pacing is great, with the medicated state adding questions of doubt into your mind over reality, and reading the fan page becomes a feel of self arrangements to the heightened fan hatred.

If you are not sold on the game then below you will find my video, don’t spoil yourself watch at most the first ten minutes this games really needs to be played for the full experience:

A small 2D exploration game, where you are looking through your Grandma’s house for the truth on what is going on. At night a doll comes to life which will hunt intruders in the house, and sadly it sees you as one.

The game is fairly small, look through the rooms to find the items to continue, as you need to make a potion in order to choose your future. There is no variation in the game other than which ending you choose and how the game ends up. The game mainly revolves around one main puzzle, making the potion which uses a little bit of trickery to confuse the player.

While searching the doll can enter the room at any point, while if caught in the doorway the player can quickly duck out and run away. Throughout the house the player can find multiple hiding spots which will disengage the doll. Be careful as the doll is relentless and will follow you through multiple screens.

The game overall is seamless, screen load fast and the doll can be found at any point ready to pounce on you. While a short game it was fun and worth the play through, the story was interesting and it was worth going through all the endings to put the full story together. The game may be a lot shorter if you quickly understand the puzzles or only go through once.
