I put over a hundred hours into Kingmaker, mostly enjoying myself but also super in over my head and consistently confused on if what-meant-what since i have no DnD/Pathfinder experience. Maybe all those hours paid off, or maybe this is just the superior game, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game is incredible. I love CRPGs, but am in the minority that would rather play Pillars of Eternity over Baldur's Gate. I bounced off D:OS1 and really liked D:OS2 but didn't find it to be the masterpiece that it was seen as. I think a lot of this comes down to the writing of these games. they're 100+ hour epics, but I often either can't stand the writing, the characters, or both. Divinity 1 and 2 suffered from this, as did Kingmaker 1. However, right out the gate, Wrath of the Righteous has infinitely more interesting and likeable characters, way better and more mature writing, with better voice acting as well. I plan on going back to Kingmaker after i finish this to see if maybe my familiarity with the Pathfinder system would make it more enjoyable, but either way, i have at least another 100 hours in this game and i cannot wait. My only complaint so far is that I think I preferred the Kingdom management in Kingmaker to the grid-based Heroes of Might and Magic type army/battle system it was replaced with. easily my favorite CRPG since Pillars 2 and I only just got out of Kenabres. i really hope Owlcat keeps making these massive, immaculate games, because Wrath of the Righteous is really something special.

Oh, and the fact that you can change from Realtime with Pause to Turn Based at literally any moment is a crazy accomplishment on its own and should be the genre standard going forward. really impressive.
