Civilization V is solid. With its DLC, Civilization V may just be the best in the series. Of course, nothing will ever beat the majesty that is Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire, but that's neither here nor there.

With a variety of different strategies, playstyles, civilizations, and mods available, Civ V allows both experienced and beginning 4X players a chance to enjoy the whole of human history...even as they rewrite the details. (Pyramids in Tokyo while you invade Seattle? Perfectly fine.)
