Don't listen to negative reviews. Buy this game. If you are struggling early, keep at it and learn from your failed runs... aka every roguelike ever. Wildfrost is fantastic and worth every penny.

This is one of the best foundations for a 4x game I've experienced. It introduces fantastic new mechanics to the genre and has great QOL features that make the game super enjoyable. More than anything, I appreciate the more serious tone the game strikes - it paints history in a reverential light and the narrative-driven gameplay helps differentiate it from other 4x games. With updates from the devs and DLC down the road, I think this could be a very worthy counterpart to Civ.
