Serious Sam 4 is a game that was released buggy and unfinished, performance problems being the primary fault and is also missing some key long time staples of the series for no discernible reason. However despite that it's still Serious Sam and therefore is a fantastic FPS with all the things fans of the series will really love and a little more.

Pros:
- Fast paced FPS gameplay
- Tons of great weapons
- Loads of enemy variety
- Tons of incredibly fun gadgets Duke Nukem 3D style
- Tons of very useful secrets to discover
- A lengthy campaign
- Dual wielding is amazingly fun
- More aggressive than previous games with less running backwards
- You can ride a werebull and a khnum
- Unique and beautiful European setting that you don't find in most other games
- Charlie and his wonderful dance

Cons:
- Poor performance reported for the vast majority of PCs
- Legion system is purely window dressing and used only twice (enemy count in combat is still high thankfully)
- Some encounters seem very unbalanced for solo play
- No long time series staples like splitscreen, 16 player co-op and competitive versus modes, Croteam please add them
- No survival mode, I don't like endless waves of enemies until you die but many in the Serious Sam community do
- Another needless prequel, nobody cares about Serious Sam's prequel story when we know how it ends in SS3
- Side Missions are needless fluff filler that stops the pace for no reason and teases you with gadgets and alt-fires to make you do them
- Character models are absolutely horrific and hilarious
- Enemy pathfinding can be extremely dodgy
- French countryside levels are pointlessly huge with very little to justify their sheer size, they are lovely riding through though
- Popemobile is a meat grinding slog with a terribly unfair boss to fight, though later mechs are handled much better
- Currently no workshop support, though is very likely to change

The game has a lot of flaws for sure; performance can be terrible, plenty of bugs to be found and the game has some truly baffling design decisions that didn't need to be there but exist nonetheless. There's also things I'm torn on such as headshots which helps the player feel more aggressive but in turn nerfs enemies like the werebull as well as the processed being funky melee bois that arguably steal screen time away from other enemies like the gnaars.

But saying all of that, at its core, this is a Serious Sam game. I wasn't expecting it to light my world on fire or anything especially in the current climate of the world that I imagine heavily affected this game's development but it's still the series I grew up adoring ever since playing The First Encounter when I was about 9 years old. It's changed in some others but is still the same in others and honestly I think the game really shines through all of its many, many problems and is such a blast from start to finish to the point I can wholeheartedly say I love this game and is everything I wanted from a Serious Sam sequel, single player-wise at least. I believe it has the potential to be the best game in the series loved by many if Croteam irons out all of its faults.

I would say hold off until the game is in a much better state but if you're really itching for more fast paced boomer shooter action where the name of the game is maximum carnage then you can't go wrong with Serious Sam 4, just go in expecting it to be a bit shakey, a little rocky but still seriously fun.

Since this game is being pulled from Steam soon I might as well get this quick review out there in case anyone wants to pick it up at the last minute. Despite the negative reviews I'm honestly enjoying my time with Warlander so far despite its problems.

This isn't Dark Souls despite what some people say, let's get that out of the way right now. If you're expecting that then you're going in with all the wrong expectations and a bad mindset. Warlander is a fun hack n' slash combat roguelite game that reminds me a lot of the lightsaber fighting in the Star Wars Jedi Knight series albeit very slow paced and definitely on the janky side. Like this game is REAL jank but it does a lot of things that makes the moment to moment gameplay great fun. The abilities are cool, the enemies are fairly interesting and the aiming based slashes makes finding those holes in enemy armour quite satisfying indeed.

However hit detection for enemies is wonky and some types seem tailor made to be dealt with via certain abilities making basic attacks quite risky for some foes but by no means impossible. Character movement also leaves a lot to be desired as your character has to painstakingly transition between all of the animations, on one hand it forces you to commit to your attacks and on the other it makes running around a bit annoying as you slow down as soon as you press another direction - luckily I found holding run forward and turning with your mouse mitigates this issue almost completely.

Performance isn't perfect but from my experience, it's sticks to a rock solid 60fps pretty much all the time and I haven't encountered any bugs or crashes so that's a plus.

For sure I have gripes with it but if you can get past the game's clunkiness, there's definitely a fun game for sure. I like it so maybe I can help others give it a try since it's 50% off before the game vanishes into the ether. If nothing else you can at least have it for preservation's sake since it will still be downloadable even after it's pulled from sale.

This is a VERY soft recommendation because personally I loved the hilarious dumb jank this game had, absolute euro jank that's trying it's very hardest and it's hard not to bless it. The combat was quite fun as well once you knew how to properly use your skills and the story was actually pretty good if incredibly silly. But it has some MASSIVE technical flaws, soft crashes, hard crashes, bugs, glitches, the whole shabang - it was released in a messy state and still is a mess sadly. As usual I break things down:

Pros:
- Fun and challenging combat
- Lots of variety and tactical play with a great skills system
- Adorably janky and hilarious
- Amazing art direction
- Great soundtrack
- Interesting story, got me curious about the Equilibrium series of books the game is based on

Cons:
- The angel enemies are absolutely the worst thing ever
- Committing attacks and being unable to dodge out of combos makes standard attacks quite frustrating at times
- Exploration gameplay is dull, no platforming or anything to keep you engaged as it's mostly straight lines with some upgrade pickups off the beaten path
- Lots of bugs and glitches
- Poor optimization despite the lower budget graphics
- Can hard crash your entire PC in fullscreen mode

It's a game I really adore because of how hiilariously jank it is but it's definitely a game with real heart and soul put into it, a small team trying to make the best game possible and that's very obvious throughout the entire run time. I can really appreciate it for what it's going for and while the combat isn't amazing, it's still a lot of fun and its skill system was actually pretty great and I can see it being a lot more fun in an action MMO rather than a spectacle fighter beat 'em up. The story was interesting if hilariously dumb at points and the soundtrack really helped the game out a lot - Devil's Hunt has everything going for it to be a beloved euro jank cult classic.

Sadly those technical problems, especially the hard crashes (play in borderless windowed with your task manager set to always be on top, saves you from having to reset your PC) are huge black marks against the game and may hurt your enjoyment of the game. And also those angels can seriously go screw themselves with a big pitchfork.

If you see it on sale, I'd say it's well worth buying - it's not a long game and thankfully the angels only appear in two sections so it doesn't outstay its welcome and is very fun and charming the vast majority of its runtime. Just do NOT go in expecting Devil May Cry, Bayonetta or anything of that caliber, it's fun but not on the level of masterpieces such as those.

Let's just get straight to the point, Doom Eternal is absolutely amazing and worth every single penny. It takes almost everything that Doom 2016 did so well in its campaign while being bigger, better and different enough that it feels like a whole new experience. It's not perfect though, it does try to reinvent itself in a number of areas that don't click too well with me and the removal of some modes for no reason is a big shame. I'll break this down as always.

Pros:
- Fantastic gameplay with many strategies to experiment with
- More diverse environments spanning across numerous worlds
- Tons more enemy variety with returning favourites
- Interesting lore and story
- Very lengthy and well-made campaign
- The Ultimate Doom and Doom 2 as secrets for new fans to find and enjoy
- New mechanics like the dash and monkey bars are fun and mostly well implemented
- The expanded platforming is great and a nice break from the intense action
- Slayer gates are amazing and are the best parts of the game's combat distilled in small, beautifully designed arenas
- PC port is amazing, runs buttery smooth with insanely quick loading times
- Battlemode is a blast, a great spin on multiplayer with mechanics from the campaign
- Much more challenging, intense and quicker with more, faster enemies that hit harder
- Master levels are a great way to replay remixed versions of previous missions
- More campaign content to come

Cons:
- Gameplay constantly interrupted by unskippable mini cutscenes after battles
- Tutorials are horrible, they are everywhere and they baby the player and never let you figure out things on your own
- The purple goo is terrible and limits all of your movement, it's blissfully rare though
- Levels are much more linear compared to Doom 2016
- Marauders are very inconsistent and break the flow of the combat due to their design
- A confusing beginning, not newcomer friendly
- The crucible is just meh
- No separate binds for frag and ice bombs
- Timed secret encounters are really bad, either too easy or stupidly unfair and easily cheesed with cheats - the rune trials in Doom 2016 were much better and more creative with better pay off
- Most arenas are less interesting and not as well designed as Doom 2016's and often with clutter needlessly getting in your way such as the car park
- A very unsatisfying ending with little to no pay off
- No arcade mode
- No traditional PVP multiplayer or co-op gameplay
- No Snapmap, my favourite mode in Doom 2016, purchasable DLC is a great addition but isn't a replacement for community content and expression
- Only two master levels locked behind pre-order and deluxe editions
- Battlemode has a very small population and most players quit once they had their fun as the slayer
- Horrible netcode at times, players lag all over the place
- While the skins are very cool, they are a poor replacement to Doom 2016's fantastic character customization
- Numerous minor visual and audio bugs and glitches that I've experienced
- The ports for Doom and Doom 2 are extremely buggy, especially in sound and direly needs fixing
- No mod support
- Forced Bethesda.net login which is just bad

This game really is a total blast and I can definitely see myself coming back to it every now and then just like every other Doom game in the series. But while its highs are MUCH higher than Doom 2016, I still prefer that more than Doom Eternal at the time of writing as I feel its lows are also much lower and the removal of a bunch of great modes and baffling inclusions of some headscratching game design also makes it not as high up as the previous game for me. But overall the game is worth every penny on the campaign alone, it's really that good and the Battlemode is also amazing once you figure out which demon you prefer and learn the maps as the slayer, it really grows on you after you've given it some time.

Over time when there's more content, bug fixes, invasions and more interest in the Battlemode as well as the inclusion of potential mod support teased by id before release then Doom Eternal has a very bright future indeed.

So yeah BUY IT!

I used to play this one a fair bit with my sister on the Xbox 360 back in 2007/2008 and one of the first games I ever had for the system. I always liked it but never finished; I never figured out why I liked it nor why I stopped playing it so abruptly but after playing it properly on PC - I can confirm why I love this game but also why it's frustrations turned me off when I was younger but today I'm more warm towards it than I've ever been.

Pros:
- Fun gameplay that incentivises and rewards varied playstyles and focuses on movement rather than cover
- Only one hitscan enemy, makes the combat feel great knowing you can avoid almost everything coming your way
- Weapons and magic feel unique and distinct, each serving a unique purpose in combat
- An interesting story
- Fun and interesting enemy types, even the different soldier types have personalities in combat style and dialogue
- Tons of upgrades to unlock
- Though weak at first, magic is pretty sweet once you reach at least level 2 in your spells and wreaking havoc
- Destructible environments
- PC port is great for performance and stability
- Massive amounts of replay value; from a ranking system at the end of each stage to unlockable difficulties to challenge missions and remixed campaign levels
- Has a cute smol witch waifu with several costumes to play with

Cons:
- Really short campaign, maybe 4 hours long
- Needed more enemy variety
- Gunplay on its own is very anemic, not much feed back with a random bullet spread
- Melee is near useless, would have been nice to upgrade and unlock combos for it
- Regenerating health, while not as bad as other games, I would still prefer other ways to replenish health
- Regenerating magic, on paper the concept of tying it to spells, ammo, etc is quite sound in how its maximum capacity depletes the more you use magic. But this mostly works only in the final boss whereas killing standard enemies replenishes your magic; a single kill fills it up a ton and just feels inconsequential most of the time.
- No reason to explore levels; no item pickups, collectables, powerups, nothing at all
- Rose Spear is pure RNG; sometimes it decimates everything and other times it won't hit a thing
- Destroyed objects can get in the way and can sometimes kill you or make you fall through the world
- Balance issues; some enemy types chip bits off your health while others can annihilate you, it can make the game really frustrating at times
- Grudge Spirits are even more annoying than Doom's Lost Souls
- Probably the worst case of hitscan instant-kill snipers in any game ever, Ancient Wall is your best friend because this happens on every difficulty
- Menu navigation with keyboard and mouse is cumbersome, really needs mouse control
- Aiming feels weird; this affects both controller and mouse and keyboard
- Dated and muddy visuals even for the Xbox 360 when it first released in 2006

Overall, despite its issues and frustrations I think I would say I love this game - I definitely felt really happy and satisfied upon beating it and even dabbled in the concept missions; there's no achievements for doing them but I was having fun nonetheless. It has a lot of charm and was a game made with a lot of love and the developers crammed as much into it as they could. Takes little elements from a lot of games like Devil May Cry, Dynasty Warriors, Earth Defense Force, Resident Evil 4, etc and ends up being a weird little hybrid of all those things mentioned minus the fact it has no pickups whatsoever unlike those games that are flooding with them. I definitely recommend it if you're looking for a budget shooter you can spend some real time with because Bullet Witch is still well worth a bash today.

Oh I love talking about weird, obscure stuff like this and honestly, I didn't like this at first - I found it frustrating and unbalanced as all hell. But after my second go at it and having beaten the game, I can say I'm a lot more warm and positive towards it. While it still has its frustrations and balance issues and I mean a LOT of them - it's genuinely a fun game with a lot of heart and soul put into it by the developers as is usually the case for Eurojank like this.

Pros:
- Fun combat once you get the hang of it
- Mixture of cool melee combos and fast paced movement heavy gunplay
- Weird and interesting story
- Great art style with heavy inspiration from 80's/90's sci-fi anime
- Explorable levels with tons of secrets to find
- Powerups are fun and interesting
- Good 6/7 hour length

Cons:
- A lot of enemies are very spongy
- Human melee soldiers are the worst, they have more health and deal more damage than you, are hard to stun whereas they have no issue doing it to you and the game spawns several to bum rush you. Using your guns helps but it's bad game design all around
- Weapon limit; you only hold one primary and one pistol
- Every weapon does weak damage in comparison to the double barrel shotgun, Thunderbolt and Dragonfly
- Platforming is RUBBISH
- Bosses are obtuse but aren't an issue when figured out
- Ending a bit unsatisfying as the expansion, Collapse: The Rage isn't available on Steam to finish the story.

It's a game with a whole heap of game design flaws and has a tendency to crash when reloading a checkpoint after dying but these issues aren't too bad and you can get through the game and have a good amount of fun in the process. It's rare to see a game go for a mix of gunplay and swordplay like this does and for an obscure thing like this made by a small team in Ukraine from 2008, it's honestly quite impressive what they made here. Just go in expecting a true Eurojank experience and you might enjoy it like I have - it's definitely a hidden little gem in the rough.

Anyone who knows me knows I love the EDF games and that includes Insect Armageddon which I still believe is a bloody good time even if it was missing some elements that made the EDF games special. Honestly to put it bluntly, Iron Rain may as well be a sequel to Insect Armageddon as it takes a lot of elements that made that game a different experience and added back in more of the things that makes the mainline series great fun as well as tangible changes and improvements that I really hope make it into the mainline series. Improvements such as the item system where once cumbersome gadgets in previous games are now equippable consumables alongside your two weapons, spending dosh on health (in-game money, not real money because EDF is actually a video game), timer to pick up items at the end of levels, etc. I'll write a quick list of pros and cons to speed things up.

Pros:
- Really fun gunplay
- Tons of unique weapons
- Great variety of distinct and unique enemy types
- Items such as grenades, turrets, healing, buffs, etc are drastically improved over the mainline series thanks to the item system
- Practice mode to get your bearings on the slew of weirder and wackier weapons
- Different exoskeletons with very distinct pros and cons, you can switch any time as you only level up one character now
- Prowl rider is god, perfect for Spider Man fans, Attack on Titan fans and people who want to pet the bugs
- Good length with tons of replay value
- A solid attempt at competitive multiplayer for the series
- Hilariously bad dialogue such as "That must be a creature from another plaaaaaaaneeeeeeet"
- Looks great most of the time

Cons:
- PC port isn't the best, while it ran great for me 99% of the time, I did experience very minor stutter when starting missions
- Look acceleration, this affects both mouse and controller and is a real hassle; could definitely do with an option to disable it
- Some frustrating enemy types, the scourgers that freeze you are especially annoying but thankfully quite rare
- The attempt at a story is just really weak with plot holes up the wazoo
- The characters in blast team are completely forgettable, I never knew who was talking during missions except the amazing Dr Mengel
- Reload times, my god some of the weapons in this game are absolutely insane for this and makes them worthless without recharge/auto reload - definitely a frustrating step back
- Heavy striker's sprint is pitiful as it cuts into your energy and always overheats, making him near useless for gem collecting
- Status effects, while interesting and useful when you can use them with things such as stun, they can be frustrating when enemies keep catching you with fire or freeze; it's a double edged sword

While the game has it's issues and frustrations, I'd say it's absolutely a worthy entry in the EDF series - while it's not as good as 4.1 and 5 which are phenomenal, I would probably rate it about the same as EDF 2017 and despite the smaller number of enemies, what is there is highly aggressive much like how they are in Insect Armageddon - just without ants having the ability to headbutt cars in your direction; but don't worry there's still tons of enemies to annihilate. It's definitely worth playing especially with the changes and improvements made over the mainline games which I seriously hope will carry over to future titles because they are essential changes in my opinion.

I'll most likely replay this pretty much straight away, I had that much fun with the game because defending mother Earth is always a blast.

Don't get me wrong, Doom 3 is a masterpiece when it comes to horror FPS games and a worthy entry in the Doom series - I've spent 1000+ hours on this game via physical PC copy, original Xbox port, BFG Edition on PS3 and even the homebrew Android port DIII4A and that's not even counting that time spent playing through all the wonderful community maps and amazing mods such as Fragging Free, Phobos, Hell in Time and what-not. It's truly one of my favourite games of all time and I encourage everyone to give it a try... But not the Steam version.

The reason I'm giving the steam version a big red thumbs down is simply because my experience with the Steam version of Doom 3 was absolutely abysmal and has been nothing but a headache of technical issues for me and I simply cannot recommend it. The main issue I've had with this version is when Steam magically decides the game has been running over night despite the fact I clearly turned the game off properly and made sure it's not running anymore - you'd think it was possessed by ghosts since Steam decides to "run" the game in the middle of the night when I'm fast asleep yet there isn't a single process on my PC to suggest the game is actually running (thus making me unable to fix this other than a full system restart), this is just one of several issues that makes me believe the Steam version of Doom 3 is completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and a waste of time because this one issue alone is a massive deal breaker for me and that's on top of the other smaller problems it has such as certain mods being incompatible with Steam but not the physical version as well as the game not properly running the first time I click play and only works on the second or third try - how does that even happen!? I curse the day I lost my physical copy of Doom 3 for PC because buying this version was a complete mistake and it's an utter joke to a fantastic game.

I don't know if anyone else has experienced these issues but if you have then I'm so sorry if this turned you off from the game altogether, it really is amazing but it's totally ♥♥♥♥♥♥ here. Just get the physical version on disc because it actually bloody works. I heard the Nintendo Switch port is pretty good too.

I rarely ever post reviews but this game... Wow, I never fell so hard in love for a small indie game so incredibly quick like I have for Distraint. I was pulled in by its great artwork and the premise but I really wasn't prepared for how strongly I would feel for this game. The characters, story and the themes and messages it tackles are all absolutely spot on. Just the interactions between your character Price and Mrs Goodwin are amazing on its own, despite saying so little when there's so much behind every word of dialogue. I don't want to spoil anything because it really is a game that needs to be experienced by yourself.

Pros:
- Awesome art style
- Great atmosphere
- Excellent story and characters
- Handles mature themes really well
- Fun if simple adventure game-style gameplay
- Insanely cheap
- Gets the feels going if you're invested in the story
- Short but very sweet

Cons:
- Occasional obscure puzzle
- That's... all I think? It's a great game!

Distraint is absolutely worth picking up if you love your indie darlings because it absolutely is up there with the best indies to date. With Distraint 2 in development, I'm SUPER excited to see where Jesse Makkonen will take Price's story because while I thought the ending was perfect just the way it is, I'm totally on board to see what other dark, dreary and emotional places this story will go.

So yeah, buy it if it seems like your kind of game!

Dark Souls is a hard game. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard. At least when you first play it and know nothing about how it all works but its challenging in a very fair and genuine way the vast majority of the time - enemies hit extremely hard but so do you, the odds are against you but you always have something to help you out. I've been a huge fan of the Souls games since its inception with the fantastic little classic Demon's Souls and while it took me way longer to finally sit down with Dark Souls, I can say it's easily one of my favourite games of all time and having just finished my fourth playthrough, I thought I may as well write a short review because why not right?

Pros:
*Very simple mechanics made deep and engaging with the huge array of enemy types and having to learn their patterns and weaknesses - learn, slash, block, roll and parry your way to success
*Fantastic level design with interconnected areas that help to create a cohesive and well-constructed game world
*Huge choice of weapons, armour, spells, miracles, pyromancies, etc - every character you make will be completely different from the last if you experiment with all the different builds thus offering huge replay value
*Incredible lore (arguably the best in gaming) told in the most minimalistic fashion possible
*Lots of bosses - Artorias and Manus being two of my favourites
*If you're a sap like me then you'll care a lot about the characters and then be heartbroken when you have to kill them without uttering a single word (I'M SO SORRY SIF!!!) - the lore is that good
*The online system blends a singleplayer adventure together with a persistent MMO world of coop play and PVP invasions, making the journey from start to finish incredibly diverse in online mode
*Runs WAY better than the horribly optimised console versions on a good rig

Cons:
*The PC port is still pretty damn pants - it's behaved itself for me as I find 30fps perfectly playable and I only ever had one crash; the only time performance ever drops is during Seath the Scaleless but thankfully he's a very easy boss
*Player connectivity based on soul level is pretty ♥♥♥♥ - people can stay at a low level the entire game, get the best, fully upgraded equipment and freely gank players or breeze through early bosses in coop
*The geometry... Good god the geometry is horrible especially when it swings your camera around and blocks your movement with short curbs - The Great Hollow and Lost Izalith are your worst nightmare for this
*The biggest brick wall players will face is the infamous pair in Anor Londo roughly halfway through the game, arguably the hardest fight in the entire game and I wouldn't blame players for giving up then so be wary
*As much as I love parrying, it's pretty overpowered once you get the hang of it - it makes the final boss a bit of a joke
*STAY THE ♥♥♥♥ STILL SEATH AND LET ME CUT YOUR ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TAIL OFF!!!!!
*Bed. Of. Chaos.

A lot of people who love Dark Souls are under the impression its the best game ever and is perfect in every way when that's far from the truth. It has issues, many issues but I consider it to be a very flawed but insanely enjoyable game every time I sit down to play it. I will always go back to this game and try out all kinds of new and different builds and I eventually hope to get every achievement but I'm in no rush because whenever I want to play something fun, familiar and satisfying, I will always have Dark Souls to keep me company.

Also Dark Souls 2 is nowhere near as good hurr hurr!!!

I do like Dark Souls 2 though.
