Really unique FPS gameplay with a lot of variety. In my opinion, Destiny offers the best gunplay of any FPS. Map design is top tier; especially in end-game PvE - which comes in the form of Dungeons and Raids. They offer vast areas that are fun to explore and beautiful to look at. A lot of end-game PvE challenges to go for; both solo and with a group! Also offers really fun PvP but it isn't very balanced. You likely need to grind a lot of PvE to get equipped well enough to have a shot at PvP. Endgame PvP exists as well but you'll really need to sharpen your skills before mastering that mode. Destiny also features a lot of platforming - popularized in Bungie's first platforming-FPS title; Halo. Platforming is hit or miss with a lot of FPS fans but it can add a level of verticality that is missing from most popular FPS games.

You can have fun in Destiny solo but I think that would get stale after a while. Destiny is a lot better with a group to play with. With LFG and clans, it's not to hard to meet fellow players. If you're on the fence, try free-to-play until you can take on the free-to-play dungeon Prophecy before you make any decisions to buy expansions.
