After watching plenty of videos, and a documentary on the genius engineers behind this masterpiece, I feel confident to write a fair review of this game.

First off; This game is not for everyone. This game can be harsh, and has a steep learning curve. Using bugs and exploits to make your dwarf-life easier is almost [ALMOST!] mandatory. And personally, it's not a real session of dwarf fortress if you don't have the wiki open.

Buuut... loosing is fun. That is the core message of this game. Truely, it is. These worlds are persistant - even after your Fortress falls, you may start another one in the same world, or explore it in Adventure mode.

Dwarf Fortress is a game that is hard to categorize. I think one of it's closer relatives may be Factorio, but I wouldn't make this an absolute statement. You start with a small group of dwarves on a quest to build a wealthy fortress, mine ores and whatever you set your mind to.

Want to make a Warmongering troupe of Assassins and Fighters? No question about it.
Want to create a wealthy trading empire in the smack dab middle of the map? You can do it.
Want to make a lava pit for all your enemies (and some dwarves) to fall into? ...Well, it's dangerous, but even that you can do.
But it is *you* that has to make it happen. You have no direct control over your dwarves, you can only give general orders - though you can make the dwarves only do certain jobs or tasks, you cannot tell a single dwarf "Hey! *You there!* Do this."
The dwarves all have their own personalities, wishes, wants and needs. There are religions and guilds they can be a part of, and roles they can perform, such as "Bookkeeper" - who keeps Stock of all your Items.

Yes, without a Bookkeeper, you only have a rough estimate of all your items. Or you pause the game and count for yourself, but I wouldn't recommend that.

The building is fun and can get really in-depth with Water and Lava pumps. I like the ingame economy, but would love even more depth to it. Crafting workshops, Smelters and Fletchers are one of my favourite parts in the game though. Automating the production of Alcohol is one of the first tasks I think everyone should tackle in the game, and it is pure bliss once you find a way in which it works out no problem.

Dwarf Fortress is truely a game for the optimizers, the min-maxers and number-crunchers. But you need to let yourself go, and trust that the time you put into the game is never wasted. Either you learn by dying, or you die by learning. You can never go wrong by trying something new - even if your 300 Dwarf Colony perishes (RIP).

The only true issue I have with this game are the performance problems that come up towards the Endgame, seeing as that is one of the more common of the many ways in which your Fortress may find it's doom. It's not like i'm surprised about this though, seeing as all these dwarves, animals and enemies all have to be simulated simultaneously, and for the fact that there are hundreds of dwarves shuffling about, all with their own thoughts and tasks, I'm still impressed to how well the game performs.

I give the game a solid 9.6/10, and Urist might agree.

I don't think I've ever played a rougher running game than this. Holy damn. I couldn't even get the first part of the first mission done without it lagging so hard that my character was spinning instead of going forward when pressing W.

I've also never before returned a game so quickly. I was really looking forward to something akin to an open-world tactical shooter, but yet again, Tom Clancy[TM] disappoints without fail.

Don't bother until 2024 with this game. I'm not surprised it's ALREADY on sale.

Battlerite, the most MOBA thing I know.

Coming from the LoL Community, I already had a rough understanding of combat mechanics in Battlerite, but I did not know how much they would be put to test here.
With an array of champions at your fingertips, everyone will find a good playstyle for themselves here, especially with the Loadouts, with which you can create your own playstyle for the champion of your choosing.
In game, you have to fight vs 2 or 3 other people, with 1 or 2 comrades of your own. Players are very friendly here most of the time.
Sadly, the community is small, and shrinking.
I find myself leaving and coming back every few months or so. Maybe that is part of the problem?

Either way; Get the game, play it, it's great!
