The spiritual successor to Death Stranding

A game that fits the bill for any good casual simulator game. The soundtrack is nice and soothing, the gameplay mechanics are simple to understand and fun, and the art is well-made. So far I haven't seen any bugs myself, and it keeps me entertained with the quests it offers. It is definitely a game that the developers have put great effort into making, updating and caring for it, and for 10 dollars, I would say that it is well worth the price.

I'd first like to say that it very well could just be me, but this game is INCREDIBLY difficult when you first begin to play.

In my 23 hours of playtime, I've never been so frustrated yet so satisfied at the same time trying to learn how to play the game, and just playing the game itself. For a game in early access, it definitely is not half bad. Currently, in the game's early access stage, there is no official story mode, only a Sandbox mode (However you can create your own story or acquire stories made by other people on the steam workshop.) In the Sandbox mode, you start out with a character created by you, with a unique personality, equipment and skill set (Note that other skills can also be improved by playing the game) as you try to survive the zombie wasteland with other survivors, encountering the occasional pack of zombies or handful of human looters out to rob and kill you.

Now the concept of this game seems quite generic and simple, just survive a zombie apocalypse by any means necessary, kind of like DayZ. But there are a couple of things I'd like to point out that I think makes this game different to games like DayZ.

One of which is simply being able to open your own server with ease without having to pay for server rentals. In Invisible Strain, you simply just start a game, and choose whether your server is invite only, friends can join by themselves or let anyone join. You won't have to go port forward or rent a server, and your friends can easily join.

The second reason is the single-player experience, in games like Rust and DayZ, people are usually relentless, killing anyone on sight for fear of others being a threat, or just because they want to, which means these games more or less depends on other people to spice up your experience. However, in DayZ, it's sort of hard to play singleplayer as you can't create your own server easily, and if you refuse to pay for server rentals or start a dedicated server in the background of your computer which uses additional memory and might require you to open your port which can potentially put your computer's security at risk, you'll just have to get lucky with an empty server and hope that no one joins in the meantime, and even then I think it will still be more enjoyable with other people playing, whether they are with or against you. I would like to say I have little experience with port forwarding, so take that part with a grain of salt.
In Invisible Strain, you won't have to worry about other real people stealing or destroying your loot as you can prevent this from happening by making your server invite only. Invisible Strain is kind of like DayZ but made enjoyable for people playing singleplayer, depending on your luck, NPCs may be friendly or hostile, some may even attempt to kill you without initiating conversation, and some friendly NPCs can be recruited and follow in your footsteps. Zombies will either have a short health bar with a weaker strain of the virus, or be extremely tanky with a fast-acting, mutated strain of the virus, making them deadly predators and should be avoided in certain situations.

I'm not saying this game is absolutely stunning and unique of course, it isn't as graphically detailed as DayZ or any other games, and does not have as much content just yet, but keep in mind that this game is only being worked on by one person in their spare time, so progress can be slow, but I see the potential for this game, and hopefully more updates will soon come.

I think Cyberpunk is quite fun aside from some of the various bugs present in the game, CDPR did a good job designing Night City and the Badlands in particular. There are many side quests to keep you entertained while waiting for main quests and the character progression process means you can keep on doing various jobs and only get more powerful. I do think sometimes the bugs can kill the immersion in different times, but I think in time when the bugs will get patched, the game will become much better.

Aside from the noticeable bugs/glitches in the game, I would say this game is fun to play casually on Normal difficulty, but if you want a challenge, Dread and Nightmare Zone is good for you. Go to the main reddit page for State of Decay 2, and you'll find pictures or videos of some of the bugs that exist in the game. I'll try to reveal as little information about the main "plot" as possible. (The review will be based around the main game; the base game, not the Heartland or Daybreak DLC.)

There are some things in the game that I found rather unlikeable:

- The A.I

The A.I is sometimes buggy or just plain dumb, especially when they encounter armored or special zombies. For example, whenever a NPC comes face-to-face with an armored zombie, they tend to get out their gun, and unload, however, because the zombie is armored, they negate all damage (If it's not a gun like the 50 Cal or Grenade Launchers.), and if they don't have a suppressor on their weapon, they draw a lot of attention just trying to take down one zombie, so they waste the weapon durability and draw attention to themselves and potentially the player. The only good side to this is that regardless of what weapon they have equipped, they generate an infinite amount of ammo while it is being used by that NPC.


- Bugs and Glitches

Both graphics and gameplay bugs are in the game, although they do not (in my experience), happen frequently, they do reveal themselves occasionally. Such as your vehicle going ballistic when you repair it with a toolkit, weird shading graphics etc.

- Gameplay Repetitiveness

The main story requires your community of survivors to survive the apocalypse by having a steady supply of Food, Materials, Ammo, Medicine and Fuel. After picking a leader to lead your community, your main task is to kill off a number of Plague Hearts that have grown around the map. You'll soon notice that these Plague Hearts are relatively hard to kill with your average pistol. This is where the repetition starts, the process of acquiring new weapons and resources is mostly the same, scavenging and looting, traders etc. However, the game helps to mix up the experience by occasionally providing different scenarios for you to explore further in the map.

Some things that are GOOD about the game:

- Your own playstyle

Scavenging and a group of zombies in the way, spray them down, or take them down one by one quietly? A horde is approaching, bash their heads in with baseball bats? Or run them over in your truck? It's your world.

- Maintaining relationships with other survivors

In many open world zombie games, you are required kill any zombie in your way with whatever allies the game assigns you, but in State of Decay 2, you can build relationships. Neighbours ask you for some materials, will you lend them some? Or deny their request? Whatever decision you make, it'll affect your relationships.

- Building facilities at base

There is only 1 main base you are allowed to occupy in the game, and no base in the middle of a zombie apocalypse is complete without an infirmary. Or is it a workshop? With the limited amount of space in each base, you will have to decide what is more important to build, a Farm? Latrine? Rainwater collector? It's up to you.



All in all, I'd say this game is fun, casual, unique and good for it's price if you don't mind a few minor bugs, and would like an alternative game to something like DayZ.

A Classic game, very few bugs, if you find one, they are mostly minor bugs. Excellent range of gameplay techniques and open world interaction.
