It's like Chess; Requires a lot of thinking, strategy, yet is simultaneously much faster and much slower, and through it all, endlessly addicting and easy to return to

This is probably one of the best games ive ever played, it sucks you into it's setting easily, and grips you with brain teasers that have many possible avenues to solve. You'll quickly go from a doom and gloom attitude while playing, and quickly learn the squad and the rules of the game as you are playing and see new avenues open up to you. This is a game about constant learning, learning new squads, units, attacks and their consequences, positioning, this is a game where you will sit and think for minutes on what is the most optimal way to place your units and attack, and it never gets old with the variety of squads and levels of difficulty.

I wish more people would play this game, it is SORELY underappreciated given both how cheap it is and how easy it is to pick up and play, yet so hard to put down; It's much more approachable than Faster Than Light, in my opinion.

Current Review (August 5th, 2023)
I'm late to talking about the new major update to GTA Online, but it has completely killed any interest I've had in the game, no amount of new content or new features can distract me from the fact that huge swathes of the game's original content is being removed for the purpose of drip-feeding it back to it's content starved player base, it's disgusting and absolutely depressing to see Rockstar try to justify GTA+ by giving people old content that has been in the game since launch at a discount.

DO NOT buy this game until Rockstar realises that the reason people buy their game is for the content that it has, and not the business model of drip-feed and FOMO.

Old Review (July 18th, 2022)
Oh what Grand Theft Auto has become, if there's any reason why you're on the store page for GTA 5 in 2022, it's likely not for it's story mode, it's for the online component. And while I can't deny that the bulk of my hours in this game nowadays is spent in online and it is indeed fun with friends and when you experience those moments of dumb fun and joy, I cannot in good conscious recommend this game.

"Now, why is that? Mr. 578 Hours?" I definitely hear you asking, well, aside from the fantastic story mode that the Grand Theft Auto series is well known for, the online component has shown Rockstar that they don't really need to try with making new or interesting singleplayer content - something that the GTA series was known for, and it's a shame that the closest we'll be getting to it is buggy missions added to Online, or yet another Online expansion that has recycled concepts from scrapped Story Mode DLC. Not to mention the massive money farm that Online has become, thanks to not just game sales but also Shark Cards, which allow people to buy money that can barely get them any of the more powerful vehicles. To get one of the most infamous vehicles in online, the Oppressor MK2, one requires purchasing the Oppressor, a Terrorbyte to store it in, and a Nightclub to store the Terrorbyte in, totaling out to about $5 Million in-game, and that isnt even getting into how hard that is to comprehend to new players, or how that costs over $50 in real world dollars, or how other routes for owning and upgrading vehicles are just as expensive and require extensive grinding to even reach (Hence my almost 600 hours, and more that I will rack up after this review).

And yet despite the fact that this game is so lucrative to Rockstar, it feels as if they don't care or are being told not to fix even the most basic of issues by their Publisher, Take-Two. GTA Online is filled with so many inconveniences, glitches, and modders that it can sometimes make the game a joyless slog to play.

In the case of inconveniences, you have:
The slow and clunky snack and body armor system, acting as one of the few ways of healing damage (Thankfully Rockstar is addressing this in an upcoming update, better late than never)

Lack of fast travel even though you can use jobs as warp points, and joining a new lobby will warp you to your spawn

Custom loadout system that allows you to hide weapons you dont use, yet you need to buy a Gun Locker that costs roughly $300K PER PROPERTY

If you experience "An Error" in a GTA Online session, it will boot you back to story mode, and you'll be forced to reload back into online, which takes minutes

The knowledge that if it's a bug that makes the game much harder to play, but doesnt allow you to make money faster, Rockstar likely wont patch it.

You also have lovely bugs that have existed for a shocking amount of time, such as the following:

Heist Finales not paying what they should (Crew Cuts seemingly reset)
Getting stuck on infinite loads
Being given weapons or equipment you shouldn't have and can't get rid of
Transaction Pending getting stuck for an eternity
Your personal vehicle winding up destroyed
Social Club refusing to launch GTA 5 because you have an incorrect setting in-game or something in your file structure

Not to mention the abundance of hackers, and Rockstar's negligence of the game's security. There are so many hackers on this version of the game that it's honestly insane that they havent infested every corner of this game and ruined it for all involved. What's worse though is how Rockstar either can't or simply refuses to implement any form of anti-cheat or improve the security of their net code, all bans are manual which means that unless your account is really suspicious, you can get by scott-free, but also hackers have the ability to see the IP addresses of all players connected in a session, which is a huge security issue (and it doesnt help that Social Club is just as bad, your Rockstar ID literally being associated with your IP and not being an account #).

I hate GTA 5, I hate what it has taught Rockstar, and that Online has shown Rockstar that they don't need to try and make a new and original product. It's been almost a decade since the release of this game, and not much has changed with story mode, and online's missions mechanically have not evolved beyond, "Go from point A to point B to collect C." Online strains aging and dated mission design and art in a game world that could have used an expansion at least a couple years ago. With focus on GTA 5 being primarily on Online, so many new updates have caused a whole array of bugs in Story Mode, breaking the way cutscenes work and causing game-breaking bugs that ruin the airtight polish of Story Mode at release. This is a game that has been ruined over time thanks to corporate greed and a lack of interest in Singleplayer content, which is disappointing in a series about singleplayer experiences. I've been playing this game since launch, I've been around since Xbox 360 and I've seen this game change over the last 9 years, not in terms of mechanics or new and meaningful editions, but watching as yet another great installment in a franchise known for its well-written stories and third-person action mutated into a product of corporate greed and derelict ideas being wasted, and Rockstar - or more accurately at this point, Take-Two - has shown no signs of changing this formula.

Would I recommend this game to someone else? If you're in it for Story Mode, then absolutely, but the Online component I would only recommend if you have other friends willing to play it with you, otherwise, stay away, and don't give Rockstar/Take-Two your money until they prove that they can make something worth your time.

Outdated Review (January 24th, 2023) - Made during the Security Leaks of early 2023
In lieu of the recent bugs and exploits made available by the GTA 5 source code leak, I would not recommend this game under any circumstance; It's simply too risky to play in the current ecosystem. Modders and Cheaters were already a long lasting, ongoing issue that has been plaguing the game, especially the PC version for the longest time, and while what a hacker could do was always bad and required playing with some form of VPN or Firewall to prevent your IP from being leaked or worse, it has escalated to being able to have your whole character deleted, banned, or having remote software installed onto your system, ontop of all the issues the game faces currently.

Either Rockstar needs to consider some form of Anti-Cheat, or find some way to close off these exploits from an end user. This has been something the community has been begging Rockstar for ever since hackers began to basically exist, and it has come to a head now. I will not be playing this game until some sort of security patch is rolled out.

One of the most heavily slept on Immersive Sims out there, this game is easily one of my all-time favorites, combining aspects from games such as Bioshock, System Shock, Half Life, and adding its own incredibly fun, action packed, Art-Deco/Alternate Future spin onto it. This is a game that I'd recommend everyone at least try, its content is incredible and kept me invested and discovering new things across every play-through i did. It may not have a strong story to play through, but watching the stories of the crewmates and the infestation of Typhon unfold as you played through the game and watch as the alien threat slowly overtakes and becomes one with the space station gave a palpable sense of dread and fear, watching everything fall apart while still trying to make something of a dire situation.

Honestly my words can't do this masterpiece justice, play it, its an Arkane game for crying out loud.

...Also why havent they released the soundtrack for this game yet! Some of the tracks for this game just pop into my head randomly (Some of the Ambient Tracks, Everything is Going to be Okay, Semi-Sacred Geometry, just to name a few). The soundtrack for this game is really well done and its a shame it hasnt been released standalone.

If you want Far Cry 3 but lacking any of the annoying gameplay elements that slow the game down (Fall Damage, Slow Speed, Debris and Foliage everywhere making offroading impossible, the lack of Strong Weaponry late-game) then pick this up, it is one of the best side games in the series

Riddled with early 2000s jank, I have a sick obsession with this game's story, tone, and OP enemies, do not play this if you value your sanity (Unless your fetish is early 2000s gems or a game that is so dramatically different from other entries in its series that its incomparable)

Needless to say, I got shot to death through a tent, 10/10.

An incredible, timeless experience from start to finish, it may not be the most polished or most well put together, but it is by far the best main line Far Cry game and the peak of the franchise so far, It is also a surprisingly easy game to 100%, ive completed this game 3 times and fully 100%'d this game on its highest difficulty, its difficulty feels mostly well balanced, a lot of the time when I died it felt like it was my fault, and that my own overconfidence got me killed.

If you want to play Far Cry, I'd highly recommend starting here, it has a great story with an amazing power creep as you progress through the game, along with one of the most memorable antagonists in gaming.

This takes the near-perfect, self contained story of Bioshock Infinite and disregards its primary message by filling it with unnecessary noise in the form of fan-fiction tier writing and guff about Fontaine, Atlas/Fontaine, and Elizabeth being a Booker hunter.

While it is cool to visit Rapture again, much of this DLC feels like fan service and meddling in themes and locations that the other games have already covered, while also disregarding the events of Bioshock 2. I understand the theory that this could just be an Alternate Reality Rapture considering its major differences with the Rapture we played, it doesnt stop it from feeling like a lazy excuse for a lack of explaining why Rapture is different, instead, it just *is* for the sake of incorporating Bioshock Infinites combat mechanics.

In short, if you liked Infinite for its story and themes, do not play this, part 1 & 2 of this DLC are betrayals of the game's core ideas and themes. But, if you wanted more of Infinite's gameplay, and you wanna see more of Elizabeth, Booker, and see a high fidelity Rapture in Infinite's engine, then give this a go.

...Although, regardless of the angle you approach this DLC, $17 CAD is wayy too much for Part 1 of 2, wait for a sale than paying full price.

If you hate this DLC, you just need to git gud.

Dead Money is not as bad as people say it is and I think this DLC gets way too much hate; Yes, it has some flaws (Stealth being pointless due to a bug with the ghost people for one, along with the way the cloud is implemented in some areas), but at Dead Money's core is a great story and some pretty decent mechanics and game design that force you to re-approach the game, try new strategies, and adapt to the Sierra Madre's ghost people, holograms, and cloud.
