Disappointingly shallow imitation of better historical games. Resources are randomized, and everybody starts with the same peasant mobs, armies just cruise across the water.... Makes absolutely no difference which nation you play.

As others have pointed out, the endgame essentially stops once you hit 10+ provinces - no additional income, no reason to continue.
