What a mixed bag. The plot and characters are for most of the game bland and predictable, but with a really good ending. Art and music are pretty, if inoffensive. Navigation mechanics are good and engaging, in a casual way. So called "platforming" segments are mostly slow, linear and frustrating. Some pet peeves of mine are the final nails in the coffin, though:
- Sometimes, seemingly at randomly chosen lines, advances dialog without player input. It is unbelievable that any game designer in 2020 can think this is a good idea. (In a game without VO.)
- Designers missed the memo about skippable cut scenes back in what? 2002?
- A few achievements are completely unfit for the game. A "flawless" playthrough means never missing a die roll, of which there must be a hundred in the game. The only way to get it is to kill the game right after every miss and try again.

A very frustrating experience. Controls are so bad it destroys any zen feeling that might have been had here.

I wish the controls were better, but it really is uniquely beautiful.

Just as charming and fun as the original, while fixing some old annoyances.

Some forgiveable flaws, otherwise really fun and beautiful game.

There are platform elements and walking sim/story elements in here. The story elements are fine and cute, especially the writing, while the platform elements are irritating and bad. It's a new gimmick for each area, so instead of being one good game, it's about 20 bad ones.

An amazing rogue-lite in a perfect package. It makes dying feel like part of a story instead of a frustrating failure.

After almost 200 hours, this game has ruined the entire genre for me. No other roguelike/lite even comes close to this level of quality and polish. Endlessly varied, endlessly interesting, with a loooong difficulty curve to keep climbing.

The fantasy chapter has some pretty obvious capitalist/colonialist vibes that I'm not a big fan of. Otherwise, great game, probably mostly for younger players.

After playing every day for two weeks, I still enjoy this game a lot. My tendency is to hyperfocus on a game for hours and days and then never play it again; this game counteracts that by limiting the useful time you can spend on it to about an hour per day, and stretching out some quests of several days. Relaxing, cute, casual. Oh, and as an adult, I find the writing surprisingly fun and on point for such a kid friendly game.
