UPDATED REVIEW: 2-17-20

I was contacted last night by XREAL Games. They spoke to me and let me know that they had done a lot of optimization and to give it another shot. (They weren't trying to make me do a different review or anything. Just genuine care about their game and the community.) Let me tell you, I'm glad I did give it another shot.

Zero Caliber is now performing AMAZINGLY. I'm having absolutely zero issues with the game now, and was even able to play the campaign. It was like a complete 180 from the build I had reviewed before. No stuttering, no extremely long loads, and no more vertigo from texture pop-in, etc.

I noticed how much smoother the in-game textures are as well. As a sport shooter and gun enthusiast, I was delighted to see how much detail they put into all of their models. (I stood for about 2 minutes just racking rounds through my M4 while looking at how nice the BCG and ammo feed animations were.)

I knew this game had a lot of potential, and now I'm excited to jump in and play a lot more. Fantastic models, accurate weapon functioning and really fun gunplay. A definite must-buy for VR owners. (The fantastic customer support and how much the devs care about this game is a huge plus as well.)

I've only played this game for about an hour now and I feel like I've experienced something otherworldly. VR is a definite must when playing, and Area X is one of the best things I've played in my life. The music, colors, vibrations and flow are perfectly synchronized.

If you have any HMD, buy this. Experience it.

After finally getting a chance to use my Steam Link for nearly a week now, I don't think I can ever go back to not using it.

The quality of streaming this little box offers is fantastic. Though I haven't tried using the Steam Link with a wireless connection yet, a wired connection offers nearly zero compression artifacts on the screen and makes gameplay feel like I'm playing on the native device.

The one thing that I've noticed is that every few hours I'll randomly get a lag-spike and controls go non-responsive for a second. Not enough to detract from serious gameplay, but the possibility of a sudden spike does linger in the back of your mind.

All-in-all, I'd say the Steam Link is well worth the $49.99. (Even more so if you preordered and got a free copy of Rocket League and Portal 2.)

Games tested: Fallout 4, Rocket League, Rust, Fallout 2 and random desktop usage/web browsing.

The pay-to-win heavy mechanics really make it suffer. Skill is no longer an issue if you buy...er...rent the best weapons over and over and over.

Aside from that, playing as a noob is fun because no one has bought anything yet.
