Yeah, it's OFF. I imagine a lot of people who never heard of it beyond "Toby Fox really liked it" are going to probably check out upon realizing that it's undeniably a remake of an RPG Maker game from 2008, and while it tries very hard to not be as autopilot as the original (literally; the original had an autobattle function that could faceroll every fight), by the end I definitely boiled entire fights down to menuing like I was inputting a particularly weird fighting game motion.

But it's *OFF*, man. If you were a certain kind of late millennial to elder zoomer in the 2010's, this game irreversibly changed your aesthetic taste, usually for the better, and Mortis Ghost's art style still clears as one of my favorites in any videogame, ever. If nothing else, I recommend playing it just to learn how so many of your favorite indie devs got inspired by it.
